A very happy birthday once again Di.
Now I'm leaving you alone to read this shot.
So enjoy.
It hadn't even been seconds, Arnav had shut his eyes to grab some sleep, When he heard the door of his room opening.
"It was definitely past midnight" He frowned, as he felt the bed dip at his side.
Khushi
Arnav turned to his side, facing the girl who had slipped in his bed. Arnav's frown intensified.
What was Khushi doing in his room, in his bed at this hour of the night?
Hadn't Nani and Di forbade them to meet until and unless the two of them were married?
But his questions lay forgotten in the back of his mind as he heard her groaning as she attempted to move into a comfortable position in his bed.
"What's wrong?" Arnav asked in a whisper, his hand reaching for her face.
"I couldn't sleep" Khushi replied in an unusually low voice. The light from his bedside lamp illuminating her face enough for him to figure out the cause of her untimely visit to his room.
Fever.
"Come here" Arnav pulled her into his arms "Did you take your medicines?"
Khushi nodded weakly, snuggling more into his chest
"It doesn't help" She complained.
Arnav sighed, Knowing all too well that she was right. Her fever had two extreme opposite effects for her, Either, She fell unconscious burning in high fever, or she failed to get even a wink of sleep throughout the night and the many days to follow, resulting in migraines and headaches for the next two weeks, Which in turn resulted in his butterfly becoming a little grumpy five year old.
Arnav chuckled internally, dropping a kiss in her hair.
He had to distract her and make her fall asleep, Arnav thought taking a quick note of her pulse.
"How did you escape your two personal bodyguards?" Arnav asked.
"Nani and Di are both asleep, I didn't have to do anything." Khushi said smiling.
Arnav smiled back affectionately. He still couldn't believe his luck, He could never figure out how and why he was bestowed with such a blessing in the disguise of his Khushi.
His angel.
Arnav Singh Raizada was a handsome man with a stone heart, A ruthless businessman who claimed to write his own destiny. With a past so painful, betrayal of his family still fresh in his heart and mind it was a little too difficult to not turn into an emotionless manipulative jerk with no regard to people's feelings and emotions.
But it changed, All of it changed when Arnav had least expected it to change.
Standing in the compound of his childhood home and ancestral property Arnav's emotions were all over the place, With the memories of his perfect childhood flooding his mind, along with those of the dark night of his parents' death. Arnav couldn't have foreseen the storm that was going to hit him in a matter of minutes.
And when it did, He destroyed everything.
Khushi had tripped right into his arms, wearing a beautiful pink and green lehenga, and Arnav Singh Raizada being the man that he was had misunderstood the whole situation and blamed the poor girl for no fault of hers.
"Humaara yaqeen kariye Sir, Humein kisi ne nahi bheja hai.. Humein koi paise nahi diye gaye hain. (Believe me Sir, No one has sent me here and I haven't been paid by anyone.)" Khushi had literally begged Arnav to believe her and let her leave before it was too late.
Only if Arnav Singh Raizada could see anything beyond his anger.
"Take her to the study, and question her in there. Don't let her leave until and unless she tells you the name of her boss!!" Arnav had instructed his staff.
An hour later, When Arnav himself went to the study to question her, He had found the room pitch dark and utterly silent.
Fortunately, He had by then gotten a grip on his anger and had entered the room with a comparatively clearer mind only to find the girl's fragile figure hunched in a corner of the room. He fiddled with the switches, trying to to locate the light switch.
"Fuse" Arnav mumbled, fishing out his phone and switched the flashlight of his phone on. The scene that met his eyes caused him to gasp in horror.
The girl was sitting in a fetal position, her head resting on her knees. He walked closer to her.
"Excuse Me." Arnav shook her slightly only to find her unconscious.
He patted her cheeks, in an attempt to bring her back to consciousness when he realized that she was literally burning in fever. He immediately scooped her in his arms and carried her to the nearest guestroom.
Till date, He never stopped blaming himself for what he had done to her more than an year ago. The man who had never apologised even to his own sister for anything would shower Khushi with a million apologies at a time for his ~Inhuman~ behaviour with her.
Khushi didn't gain consciousness for the rest of the night, making Arnav more and more guilty of his actions. Arnav stayed up the whole night, taking care of the stranger girl.
The next morning, When a visibly shaken and horrified Khushi jerked up from her sleep with a shrill cry, Arnav found his heart breaking for the first time in years.
"My.. My clothes." Khushi looked horrified at finding herself in a plain white T-Shirt and PJs
"Hey.. You're safe." Arnav spoke in the softest tones he could manage, causing Khushi to look into his direction in reflex. "My sister had changed your clothes, thinking you might not be able to sleep comfortably in the Lehenga-Choli."
"I have been trying to tell your staff for so long that they're under a misunderstanding, I-I am not.. not what you think of myself to be. PLEASE BELIEVE ME!!" Khushi broke into tears, joining her hands together.
Arnav sighed, walking up to her and held her firmly by her shoulders, "I'm sorry, It was my fault. I should've heard you out."
Khushi's breath hitched, "Let.. Let go of.. of me." Khushi whimpered causing Arnav to remove his hands from her shoulders almost instinctively.
"You should change, your dress is in the closet. I'll drop you home." Arnav whispered softly before moving out of the room.
And Home.. was another story altogether.
The people were not ready to stop bad mouthing neither Khushi nor her family. In a country like India, The girl's side of the story is seldom heard. The people and the society finds it much easier to blame her instead.
Arnav couldn't help much when the people were stubborn enough not to hear him out. All that people seemed to care about was, that Khushi had spent a night away from home and her elder-sister's wedding had been called off because of that. The family didn't take much time to pronounce their own stand on the whole situation.
Accusations of being bad-blood, Taunts of being adopted and a hundred heart wrenching attacks were lodged on the poor girl and she was the disowned by her family.
Arnav, guilty of being the root cause of all that had transpired within a few hours decided to help Khushi out of the situation that he had put her in and took her to delhi with himself.
Now, One year and three months later, Arnav Singh Raizada was engaged to be married to the love of his life, His angel. Khushi in two weeks time.
"How can you love me so much?" Arnav asked softly.
"I don't know.. I didn't decide to fall in love with you or your family. It just happened." Khushi replied.
Arnav was truly lucky, not only to have her in his life but also his family's, Khushi had accepted all of his family members to as her own. And he was glad to see her getting so much love and pampering from his family, It sure lessened the guilt of being the reason for snatching her own family from her.
"How's the shopping going?" Arnav asked her
"It's tiring, walking around the malls of Delhi is no child's play. I didn't even know there were so many pre-bridal treatments." Khushi pouted.
"Actually, There are post bridal treatments as well." Arnav told her.
"Don't tell me?!" Khushi whispered surprised
"Leave all that, Where do you want to go for our honeymoon?" Arnav asked.
"I don't know.." Khushi yawned, Arnav did a little victory dance in his head
"Still.. Close your eyes and think of a place." Arnav insisted.
Khushi closed her eyes, "Paris Or Switzerland."
"Why not both?" Arnav asked
"Both?" Khushi's surprised voice reached his ears.
"Yeah.. We can surely go to both the places, if you want." Arnav said softly
"Really?" Khushi raised her head to look at her to-be husband's smiling face.
"Sure. Anything for my angel." Arnav cradled her closer as her felt her slowly relaxing, Her eyes began to feel heavy.
"Will there be snow?" She asked stifling a yawn "in Switzerland."
"Of course. We'll go snowboarding and snow-fighting." Arnav said in a soft whisper.
"I will defeat you, I promise" Khushi said confidently
"About that, We'll see what happens." Arnav teased her
"We'll see." Khushi replied cuddling to his side.
"You'll make me hot-chocolate." Khushi mumbled, close to falling asleep.
"Done!!" Arnav kissed her forehead.
"And We'll cuddle in a warm blanket together" She spoke as sleep steadily began to consume her.
"Just like right now." Arnav sighed in contentment
"Hmm"
"I'll sleep in your lap, I've never slept like that in such a long time." Arnav could sense the slight sadness that reflected in her words. He sighed.
Time for some sleepy assurances.
"I'll pamper you like my baby.. You can do whatever you want to once we're married." Arnav craddled her gently closer to him.
"I love you Arnav" Khushi whispered almost inaudibly a few seconds later before finally falling into a peaceful deep slumber.
"Love you too Khushi" Arnav whispered back "Love you so much."
After a few minutes, Arnav looked down at his side to find his girl sleeping peacefully with her head on his chest with a smile etched on her angelic face.
Arnav smiled, closing his own eyes and welcoming sleep to overtake his senses.
