New Beginnings

This story is a little bit inspired by the movie 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani'.

"Arnav, are you sure you want us to get back together?"

"Yes Khushi. These years apart from you, I am not going to lie to you saying I haven't been with anyone else. I was. You know I was. There have been long and short term relationships, but, no one, and trust me when I say this, no one will ever be able to understand me like you do. I just want to be back, with you. Back home." he was holding her hands in his, pleading.

"You do realize its been five years Arnav. That is a lot of time. You left because you wanted to focus on your career and travel. I wanted stability in my life. We both have that right now. We are only going to mess it up if we get back together."

"I know why I did what I did Khushi. I also know what I said five years ago. I knew what I wanted then. I know what I want now."

"And that is stability? The same house, the same job. For the rest of your life?"she questioned. She needed to be sure.

"I know you are trying to scare me off. Trust me, you won't be successful. But I am sure of one thing and that is that I want you in my life. That is all that matters to me."

"You'd say that now. What if you start resenting me once this fades off?" Khushi motioned between the two off them, indicating the mutual attraction they had for each other.

"I believe it was you who told me, we need to trust each other. Trust is the basic building block of every relationship."

"I did say that."

"So trust me. This is not just attraction that I feel for you. And I know for a fact you have feelings for me that is way beyond physical attraction. I know you are good for me. All I am asking is a chance for me to prove to you that I can be good for you too." Arnav said.

One direct look at those chocolate brown eyes, Khushi knew he had her where he wanted her. That was it. She gave in. She took a step forward. Her hands automatically went around his head. She gave him a light peck on his lips. That was all the invitation he needed. His hands attached to her hips while his lips trailed warm kisses along the side of her neck.

"Oh come on." Khushi said as she pulled his head back up and pressed her lips to his firmly.

After a few moments, Arnav pulled out of the kiss, wanting catch a breath. He rested his forehead on hers.

"So, can I get my luggage in?" he asked.

Khushi was still in a daze after the kiss.

"Huh???"

"You know, I did come directly from the airport." He explained.

"Oh..."

"So, can I stay here tonight?"

"Only if you are comfortable on the couch." She said pulling away from, a smirk on her face.

"Oh, I think it has enough space for us." He said plastering his signature smirk in response.

The next morning Arnav was up early. He made breakfast for Khushi and himself as he waited for her as she got ready for work. The excessive travelling and living alone had made him an excellent cook. Khushi was impressed by the choices Arnav had set up in front of her.

"Well, I had to make do with the ingredients I had." Arnav said.

"I mostly order in." Khushi said as she took a couple of pancakes and some eggs on her plate.

"I figured as much." Arnav said with a chuckle.

Khushi knew the multiple take away containers in her kitchen was a dead give-away of that fact.

"You don't have to order in anymore. You will have me as your personal chef." He stated. Khushi nodded, impressed.

"Are you sure you want me to go? I could take the day off and stay with you." Khushi tried again as she gathered the things she needed for office.

"I am 100% sure. You go to work. I will just stay here and send a few mails, look at prospective jobs. I do have an idea of what I can pitch to them instead of what they offered. Trust me."

"Okay. Fine I will go." Khushi said placing a light kiss on his lips.

"Have a good day."

"All the best."

Both of them spoke as soon as they parted from the kiss.

"Now go." Arnav said as he ushered her out of her flat.

It was almost after seven when Khushi reached home. The lights were off. Maybe Arnav had gone out to get something. She thought, as she opened the door with her spare set of keys.

She switched on the lights in the living room. Nothing. There was no trace of Arnav even having been there. Except for that piece of paper. The paper that was tucked under the book she was currently reading.

I am really sorry about this. I thought I could fix this. I can't.

That was it?

Khushi couldn't believe she had let him break her heart all over again. She needed to sit down. No she needed to lie down. She didn't know when she had dropped her bag on the floor. She was emotionless when she walked to her room, tears flowing down her face.

Her bedroom room was closed.

Signs of him having been there.

She never closed it when she left.

She pushed it open and the lights automatically went on.

But wait.

There he was.

In front of the bed.

In one knee.

With a ring in hand.

He had set up fairy lights.

There were balloons

There were flowers

But, to focus. He was there.

"Will you marry me Khushi?" he asked before he noticed the tears flowing down her face. In his defence, the lights were dim and he couldn't see her face properly.

"Khushi, what happened? Is everything alright?" He asked, still on one knee though.

"Yes." She said and nodded.

"Yes everything is okay or Yes I will marry you?"

"Yes I will marry you." She said and he stood up, placing his lips on hers, he kissed her passionately. In between, he pushed the ring onto her finger.

"But, why were you crying?" He asked as they pulled apart for air.

"I thought you left me."

"What?"

"Yeah, I came home and you were not there. Nothing was there that indicated that you were here." She started.

"Seriously Khushi, I thought I told you to trust me."

"I did. I do. But then, that note..."

"What note... oh wait.. okay that was a mi...just come with me." He said as he pulled her back towards the living room.

Next to the book where she found the note was her broken lamp.

"I accidentally knocked it off while I was clearing my things from here. I was planning on fixing it myself, then could not. I got a call from the office before I could finish the note."

"Oh.. but why did you even write a note in the first place. You could've just told me in person."

"Come to think of it, I have no idea." Khushi just rolled her eyes at him while he had a sheepish smile on his face.

"What did they say?" She asked as they settled down on the couch." He was nuzzling her neck.

"Who?"

"Your office."

"They said they'll consider it and get back to me."

"Awesome. I think we should go celebrate then."

"Yeah, about that, I have gathered our friends. We have reservations at 8:30."

"And you are telling me now. I have to go get ready." Khushi said as she pushed herself off the couch and rushed to her room. Arnav just sat there smiling at her retreating form.

He was happy about the choices her made in the last 24 hours. He knew things would only get better with her by his side.
