Sheesh Mahal

After seeing the last of his guests to the door ASR finally let out a deep sigh filled with fatigue of the last few days. From his official tour to London and Greece to his return to the dark city Lucknow. These past few months have been extremely exhausting.

Loosening his tie the man signalled his staff to leave as well. As his team of workers left Arnav sat on a bench besides the small fountain on the periphery of his conquered land. Like Alexander ASR successfully tookover his land, his roots, his very own Sheesh Mahal. Looking around the place the man felt nostalgic. Years ago this place echoed with his and his sisters giggles and the laughter of their parents. Before everything went down the hill. Now only emptiness reflected in and around the huge structure.

Shutting his eyes for a minute Arnav tried to compose himself. The silence helped him to wear his ASR mask smoothly. But before he could open his eyes a loud bang followed by a light thud from somewhere behind him alerted him about an intruder.

Prepared to attack the unexpected burglar Arnav swiftly turned around only to see something that left him flabbergasted. No masked thief, no knives, welcomed him...rather a woman or to be precise a bride clad in her sparkly red wedding dress stumbled on the cobblestoned path with a troubled look on her face. Looking down at his wristwatch he noticed that it was pretty late for a young woman to appear here at Sheesh Mahal hotel out of nowhere.

He sauntered to get a closer look. However as his eyes locked with hers the rest of the world blurred around him. A nervous, embarassed but beautiful doll faced woman stood a mere feet away from him. But our man did not waver his gaze from the lady in red. With an unknown intensity he looked at her from top to bottom. The dress definitely showed her curves at the right places. When even after a while he did not utter a single word, the woman herself blurted out the reason of her unexpected entry.

Na..namaste..Hum musibat mein hai aap..aap humari madad krdenge kya Suitji?...Suitji?...lagta hai behrein hain..?
(Hey...I am in trouble...will you please help me Mr. Suit...umm Mr. Suit...guess he is deaf or something?)

The word deaf and Suitji made the man come out of the la la land and he gave her a surprised look in return. What sort of a name is that? Is she talking to me? Suit? As in Mr. Suit?!? As in me? ME??? The mam mused.

What the...What did you call me...Suitji? And I can hear everything perfectly! By the way tum ho kaun aur yahan meri property pe kya kar rahi ho??
(By the way who are you and what are you doing here...trespassing on my property??)

Office ka suit pehna hai to wohi bulayenge na...bataya to hai hum musibat mein hain. Humari thodi madad krdijiye na please?
(You are wearing a suit so its obvious...like I told you I am in trouble. Please help me out?)

The way the cute woman scrunched her face and muttered her issues it made her look more adorable if possible in the eyes of Arnav Singh Raizada. Chuckling mentally for the first time in his life the man did what he felt in the pits of his heart. Trusting his instincts for once, the man side stepped and swayed his arm in a welcoming gesture.

Strangely this earned Arnav a million dollar smile, full of happiness. There and then his mind jumped in joy. Never had anyone smiled because of him. And here a weirdly dressed up woman was acting all ecstatic because of his one action.

Sometime passed and getting comfortable in one of the guestrooms of his now Sheesh Mahal hotel the woman spilled the details of her life. Arnavs eyes touched his hairline astonished to hear what led her here at his doorstep.

....ek fraud se shaadi to krne se rahe hum. Bas phir kya tha pichewali khidki se bhaag aaye.Aur aisa bhaage aisa bhaage ki seedha aapki hotel ki deewar falang kar entry maar li..yahan. Simple.
(....could not really marry a fraud now. So ultimately I jumped out of my window and ran away only to stop here, climb and jump across your fence...and look here I am. Simple).

ASR stood speechless leaning against the doorjamb as Khushi Kumari Gupta completed her tale of being a runaway bride. But from the bottom of his heart he felt relieved to know that Khushi bravely ran away from the clutches of a con. Moreover the idea of her being single and not someone elses made feel ecstatic.

Before Arnav could voice out his opinions on her story one of the waiters of Sheesh Mahal came inside with a trolly filled with different dishes for Khushi. The delight of experiencing and tasting a variety of meals made the lady cheer outloud in response to which even the usually cold emotionless Arnav smiled.

Mmm...maza aagaya Arnavji..lajawaab...hmmm....
(This is delicious....incredible...)

Thanks Khushi.

Half an hour later Arnav and Khushi were standing in the balcony of Sheesh Mahal watching the serene full moon night view of Lucknow city. The two sipped their coffee and tea talking about life and fate. This was the most bizarre moment of ASR' life. The one who owned a steel walled heart was opening up to a runaway bride whom he just met.

Tumhari theories zindagi ko lekar bahut alag hain Khushi. And I must admit maine pehle kabhi aise kisi se apni dil ki baatein nai kari but dont know why tumse milkar aisa krna ajeeb nai laga. All this feels so natural.
(Your theories regarding life are unique Khushi. And I must admit I have never come across someone like you, with whom I can be myself. Feels like I know you from before).

Hehehe. Theory ho ya practical..life ko mushkil banana ya nai banana humare haath mein hota hai.
(Be it theory or practical, when it comes to life its upto us how we make it and usually we only end up making our lives complicated).

For the first time Arnav agreed to the words of someone like Khushi Kumari Gupta. The two seemed to be like chalk and cheese. Still she felt like a breath of fresh air in his monotonous world.

True. Very true. So what are your plans now? Kya kal subah apne ghar jaogi ya...
(Will you return back to your house or...)

Nai Arnavji. Ab humein yahan Lucknow mein rehna hi nai hai. Hum to Delhi jaane ki soch rhein hain.
(Nope Arnavji. I have decided I will no longer stay here in Lucknow. I am planning to leave for Delhi).

Delhi?!?

Haan wahan humari Buaji rehti hain. Woh humse bahut pyar krti hain. Bas ek baar unke ghar pahunch jaayein phir to Amma ki khair nai. Kyun aap Delhi aate jate rehte hain?
(Yes my Buaji lives over there. She loves me alot. Once I will reach her doorstep my Amma will have to face her wrath. Why...are you a frequent visitor?)

As she casually explained about Delhi while sipping her tea Arnav smirked internally in victory. Delhi. Now I love living Delhi.

Actually Khushi I live in Delhi. Main bas iss hotel ki inaugration ke liye yahan aaya tha.
(I only came for the inaugration of this hotel).

Arey waah. Phir kya hum bhi aapke sath jaa sktein hain? Kaunsi train lenge waise? Subah wali ya shaam?
(Great. Then in that case can I come along with you? By the way which train are we gonna take? The morning one or the other one?)

Hearing the word train Arnav guffawed holding his stomach trying to control himself but nothing happened and his laughter echoed all around Sheesh Mahal astonishing his workers and security immensely. Apparently Arnav Singh Raizada was not that famous as Khushi had not recognized him when he had proudly introduced himself as ASR to her. Her reaction had been been a normal ok.

Arrey to kya paidal jaayenge? Hasne ki kya baat hai? Paise kam pdenge to hum de denge aap fikr mat kriye. Hum ghar se bhaagte waqt thoda bahut zaroorat ka saman laaye the.
(Were you expecting us to walk? Whats there to laugh? If you dont have enough money I will buy your ticket. I carried some cash from home before sprinting).

Shaking his head in disbelief he felt like pinching himself. Khushi Kumari Gupta was an enigma and Arnav Singh Raizada wanted to be around her more with every passing minute.

Dont worry mere paas train se better plan hai..
(I have something better than a train..)

Oh aapka matlab hai...
(Oh you mean...)

Exactly....I mean a heli..

Private Taxi se jana hai.. oh acha.
(A Private Cab I c...)

Chuckling at the eighth wonder of his own world Arnav Singh Raizada felt thankful to the almighty for blessing him with this beautiful gift tonight.

Kuch aisa hi samjhlo. We will leave by tomorrow..alright?Now you should go back to your room and sleep. I will give you my sweats to sleep in alright?
(Something like that).

Theek hai jaisi aap ki marzi.
(Ok as you wish).

As the two parted ways Arnav Singh Raizada was pretty sure that this journey of his back to Delhi is definitely going to be an unforgettable experience. Getting comfortable in his room Arnav had the best sleep of his entire life dreaming about the peculiar Khushi Gupta.  For the first time in twenty eight years of his life Arnav was looking forward to the next sunrise.
