Sara X Nate (MetalCanary)
Note: I'm just gonna rant for a sec. Don't worry. It does involve the story.
So, for the CW superhero shows (Supergirl, Legends, Arrow, Flash) they never show grief. Like, when Eddie died, they showed Iris getting over him (very quickly), but not a whole lot else. Same with Joe and everyone else. None of them even cared, or so they showed.
For HR, it was like he didn't matter to anyone except Tracy and Cisco.
For Jay, Caitlin was really the only one who cared.
For "Ralph", Barry was the only one.
For really anyone else, there was either one or fewer people who cared.
In my opinion, there were only two real scenes. The episode where Leo helped Barry get over Ralph's death, and the first episode of Supergirl season 3 where she was mourning Mon-El and some the following episodes.
And when Laurel died, it was like Sara never found out. She never even cried! That was really important to me, and I guess I always assumed that she cried in private.
I hope you enjoy,
...
Sara sighed. She didn't know why, or even how, but it had happened.
She had fallen in love.
...
Sara felt her soul shatter.
My sister is dead. Laurel is dead. She's not coming back.
She felt like she was broken, and she wouldn't be fixed without Laurel.
Except Laurel is gone. And she wasn't coming back.
She sobbed into her hands.
She wished she could fix it.
But she couldn't. Not anymore.
...
"Sara? You in there?" Nate had heard some crying, and being a naturally curious person, he had decided to explore it.
Sara stared at her door in shock and shame. Was she really being that loud?
"Yeah. What's up?" She wiped her eyes quickly, hoping Nate wouldn't notice.
"I just heard something... are you ok?"
Sara opened the door.
"I'm fine," she snapped.
Nate looked at her. "You really expect me to believe that? You're sister just died, and I can see the tear streaks. Talk to me."
She internally cursed tear tracks.
"Listen. I don't need you, or anyone else."
"But you do!" Nate protested. "Part of your family died! Anyone would need someone!"
"I don't," she growled angrily before slamming the door in his face.
...
If you don't already know, Sara Lance is a person who doesn't like to be forced to talk about stuff.
She hated it, even if she did want to talk about it.
That's why she went to see Nate later that night.
...
"Nate? Are you awake?"
"Are you going to snap my head off again?"
Sara scowled.
Nate opened the door.
"What's up?" he asked.
"I... wanna talk?"
Nate smiled warmly.
"Of course, Sara. My door's always open."
"Bet you say that to all the girls," Sara smirked.
"What other girls?"
(I love you if you can tell me what episode and what show that's from).
...
"I don't want to live without her!" Sara sobbed against his shirt, which was already soaked. Sara genuinely wondered when she drank enough to cry that much.
"Yeah. No one wants to live without the person closest to them."
Sara nodded as she leaned against him.
"I wish she was still here," she sighed.
...
Over the next few weeks, anytime Sara thought she was going to break down, she went to Nate.
Until she couldn't.
...
"Nate?"
Shit.
Why now?
"I'll be right there."
He tried desperately to hide his hard-on and brush his hair.
"Amara, trust me. You are gonna wanna leave."
"Wait. Why am I being kicked out? Kick her out," Amara said.
She made a lovely point.
"Sara, can you come back?"
"You said your door was always open!"
"Uh... that changed. Can you go?"
...
Sara stared at the door in shock.
Today was Laurel's birthday.
She had picked up a present from 1669 for her before she found out.
Nate had said his door was always open.
Guess that was a lie.
She walked away, a vengeance boiling in her stomach.
She was going to get him back.
He had hurt her. Badly. And he was going to pay.
She didn't care how long it took.
...
Sara sniffled. No one cared. She had been a fool to think that Nate was different.
Why would he be?
...
Sara sat on her bed, head in her hands.
Why did it matter anymore? Laurel hadn't even been dead a year, yet it felt like Sara's soul had shattered.
Suddenly, her door opened.
"Can I come in?" Nate asked.
Sara shook her head.
"Come on," Nate whined from the doorway.
Sara still shook her head.
"Gideon, would you let me in?" he asked.
"Yes."
Sara glared at the ceiling before throwing a pillow at it.
"Whatever, Nate."
He walked in and put his arms around her.
She shrugged them off.
"I was busy, ok? It's no excuse, but it's the only reason I have."
"You mean you were busy with Amara, right?"
Nate blushed.
Sara just rolled her eyes before moving to get up.
Nate put a hand on her shoulder to keep her from getting up.
Bad move.
"Keep. Your. Dirty. Hands. Off. Me," Sara growled. Nate immediately recoiled.
"Sara, I'm sorry, alright?"
"I deserve better than you, Nathaniel."
"Sara, you need to talk to someone."
"Do I? Since when are you the feelings expert?" (Love that line).
She walked off, leaving Nate to think about what the bad thing he'd done.
...
"Sara. Sara. Sara."
No one knew what was going on with Nate and Sara, but Amara hated it.
From her P.O.V., it looked like he was hitting on her!
She couldn't be with someone who did that in front of her.
...
"Nate!"
Nate turned, hoping to see Sara.
It was Amara.
"So... what's up?" Nate asked.
"This isn't working. Maybe for you, it is, but not for me."
"What do you mean?" Nate asked (#JustinBieber).
"I'm breaking up with you, Nathaniel."
"Why?"
"I think you know." She walked off, leaving Nate to wonder how he had managed to screw over his relationship with both girls.
...
Sara lay in bed.
She felt emotionally overloaded.
She couldn't deal with Laurel being dead.
Her door opened, but Sara didn't even care.
Suddenly, there were arms around her, holding her tight, and there were soothing words in her ear, and her tears were being wiped away.
When she was finally calm enough, she registered the voice.
Nate's.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"I will always be there for you, Sara. I messed up, and I will work to make up for it, but I need you to know that."
Sara nodded.
"Thanks, Nate."
"Of course, Sara."
...
Note: I realize that you don't have to have a kiss at the end for it to be romantic. Anyway, right next to "The Bridge" (Coldflash On-Shot) this was one of my favorite chapters to write.
I hope you enjoyed!
(Also, sorry this took so long)
