Fanning and Swooning
Jesse McCree had only travelling through Japan for a month now, but he had already picked up a few things. One of those things being folding fans. Many women would wave them as they swooned, holding them in peculiar ways as they looked at him. He didn't understand it at first, but his friend Genji ended up explaining it to him. Thanks to that, he was now always on the prowl.
One day he was finally able to put his skills to the test, at an annual gathering Genji invited him to. "Whatever you do, do not flirt with my brother."
"Yer brother? Who said I was interested in men?"
"You have. Many times. The first time we met, you hit on me."
"Damn you for knowin' me so well."
The ninja laughed and clasped his shoulder. "As master says, knowledge is power!"
"Whatever..." the cowboy muttered, watching his friend walk off. He let his gaze wander around the room, until they landed on a person.
A girl - no, a boy - who looked around the same age as him was across the room staring at him. He had a dark blue fan covering the bottom half of his face. "He's shy, but interested," Jesse thought, remembering what he was taught. Cautiously, he made his way over.
When he got closer, he realized the fan had a pattern on it: Two light blue dragons, weaving their way across it. The brunet's eyes flashed with interest. "Either your family crest is a dragon," he murmured, "Or you just really like them."
The stranger giggled behind the fan. He moved it down, revealing his lips. I'm single.
"Name's Jesse McCree," he purred, tipping his hat. "What's yours, darlin'?"
"Hanzo," he said, snapping the fan shut. He started twirling it under his left eye. We're being watched. "Hanzo Shimada."
The realization hit him and he glanced over Hanzo's shoulder. He caught sight of Genji glaring at them. "Shit, I'm talking to his brother, aren't I?"
"Shimada, eh?" McCree murmured, stuffing one hand in his pocket. "I'm not supposed t' be talkin' to you."
"So I've heard." The fan was open again, and he was fanning himself. "Care to tell me why you still are?"
"I'll go against any rules if I'm enjoyin' myself," the southerner answered. "And I'm currently doin' that with you."
The Asian chuckled, flipping the fan around. "You're bold..." It was facing backwards now. Meet me outside. "I like it."
He smiled like an idiot and nodded, just as he was pulled off to the side. He found himself face-to-face with the other Shimada brother.
"What the hell?" Genji whisper-shouted. "I thought I told you not to flirt with my brother!"
"I didn't know he was yer brother 'til twenty seconds ago!" the cowboy retorted. "'Sides, I'm just talkin' to him. No harm in that."
"Don't lie to me, Jesse," the ninja growled. "If you do so much as lay a hand on him, I will kill you."
He rolled his eyes. "Fine..." He pulled out a pack of cigars. "I'm goin' for a smoke. Be back in a jiffy."
With that, the gunslinger slipped outside. He saw Hanzo standing a ways away in a garden, holding his closed fan under his lips. Talk to me. He lit his cigar and hurried over.
"Here as promised," he said, coming up beside him. The ravenet smiled and set his fan down. "I'm glad. I like a man who can stay true to his word."
The southerner hummed in acknowledgment. "Yer brother's pretty protective of you. Won't even let me talk to ya."
"I expected nothing less of him," the Shimada sighed. "He doesn't want anyone to hurt me..." He looked up at McCree, a glimmer in his eyes. "Or vise versa."
The words sent a shiver down the brunet's spine. "You sayin' you're dangerous?"
He snickered at this. "I am a Shimada, am I not?" He picked up the fan again and rested it again his cheek. I fancy you. "But I can make an exception for you," he says with a smile.
Jesse couldn't help but return the grin. "Good to know," he said sweetly, holding a hand out to him. Hanzo was about to take it when they heard a shrill cry.
"Jesse! Don't you dare!"
The archer pulled away with a startled gasp, almost dropping his fan. "That's my brother. You should go."
"Sure thing," the cowboy responded, catching sight of a low hanging balcony. Without hesitating, he grabbed onto it and pulled himself up, ready to run.
"Wait!"
He looked over his shoulder at Hanzo. The ravenet rested his fan near his right eye, a pleading expression on his face. When can I see you?
"How about here?" McCree answered, adjusting his hat. "Same time tomorrow?"
The older Shimada nodded, looking relieved. With that, the southerner blew him a kiss and took off back inside.
Hanzo felt butterflies erupting in his stomach and reopened his fan, fanning himself rapidly. He was too flustered to notice when his brother appeared, cursing in Japanese and trying to find the runaway gunslinger.
"Same time tomorrow..." he thought, beaming like an idiot as he waltzed back inside. "I'll see you then, cowboy."
