Chapter 12

I missed my chance to go on for archery by one point. I was sad but I would just have to try harder next year. My brace came off my arm and I could start my fight training again. After school, Diggle picks me up and then drops me off at the dojo and I do my homework with some of the other kids while we wait for classes to start. I started to follow Oliver a bit after I got my cast off. He would go to the club and would disappear. I followed him while I was inside the club. Hiding from people and going in an opened window in the bathroom. He went into the basement and I waited a few minutes before the  and looked around. It was dark but then I saw Oliver walking around in the vigilante costume.

"What? He was just gone?" A woman with blond hair asked standing in front of a group of computers.

"No! Not gone. Taken." Oliver said walking past and setting down his bow.

"Looks like Nickle was on somebody else's list too." Diggle said.

"After the fire last night its not entirely surprising. Felicity, I need you to get me everything that you can on Nickel. Focus on his tenants, and anyone who might have filed a formal complaint against him or people that lost something in the fire."

"Well, it's going to be some list, I mean, slum lords aren't generally known for their popularity, plus..." 'Felicity slapped her hands on her legs before sitting in the chair in front of the computers.

"What?" He asked.

"Nothing it's just. You went over there to be all, 'Grrr, stop being bed or I'll arrow you," and now you want to rescue him."

"I don't like the idea that somebody dangerous is out there." The girl turned and looked at him, making Oliver sigh. "Somebody else. Because typically... They don't show my level of restraint."

"So you're going to cross Nickle off anyway?"

"No. I'm finding somebody else who needs a talking to."

"Wait, wait. You're going out there again, Oliver?" Diggle asked him. "Why don't you go home and be with your family, man? Hang out with your daughter?"

"That's when the work is done, Diggle." Oliver says.

"Okay, then I'll take you out to dinner."

"Not Hungry."

"Not asking." Diggle says taking a book from Oliver's hands.

I waited until both of them to leave before I did.

"Hello?" Felicity called out, cautiously. "Is anyone there? Yea, Felicity because someone is going to answer if they are here to kill you." She rambled on. I quietly stepped back to where I had gotten down. I jumped up and grabbed onto the bar and pulled myself up and climbed over landing silently like a cat.

I got out of the basement but then hurried home before anyone could notice. Now I had to think about how to let Oliver know that I know.

After my training I was picked up by Oliver. He had a father daughter date planned. I was going to tell him when we went in the park. We got some Big Belly Burger and we walked around the park hanging out with each other. I sat down on a bench and Oliver sat next to me.

"So, how are you?" He asked me.

"Okay, my days are a bit happier, I finally got to know who you are." I say looking at my hands. "I got my cast off, I'm training again, I have friends at school. My dad is the vigilante." I say the last bit a little more quiet than the rest of the sentence.

"What? Peyton, I am not the Vigilante."

"Don't lie to me. Oliver, I know you are. I saw you."

"How?"

"I snuck into the basement of your club, when the whole John Nickle thing went down. When you came back to tell Diggle and the blond, Felicity, about it before Diggle took you to eat."

"How did I not hear you?" He asked me.

"When, you live in an abusive house like I did, you have to be absolutely silent when walking anywhere. My mom was gone a lot and Jeremy was home with me a lot giving him a chance to hurt me. Out of sight, out of mind." I sigh and look at him.

"Peyton, I'm sorry you had to deal with all of that." Oliver says giving me a hug. We stand and walk back to the car. "Peyton, would you like me to train you?" He asked as we started to drive back to the mansion.

"Sure."

The next night Oliver took me with him to when he went to the club and he had me show him how I got down into the basement without him knowing. I showed him the hole I found and I shimmied out and stepped onto a bar before swinging down using my slightly rusty gymnastics skills before landing like a cat quietly. He whispered to me and had me walk up behind Felicity and scare her.

"So," I say startling her. She screamed out and spun around looking at me. "When's Diggle getting here?"

"Who are you? What are you doing here? How did you get in here? Are you going to kill me?" Felicity said.

She pulled out her phone and dialed Oliver's phone which I had in my pocket.

"Oh, One minute, I got a call." I say pulling the ringing phone from my pocket. "Hello, Mr. Queen's phone, this is Peyton." I say watching her face drop. "Come on out Ollie." I say to the shadows of the corner where Oliver stood watching.

"Oliver?" Felicity asked as my father stepped out. I tossed him his phone. "Who is this?"

"Felicity this is my daughter Peyton, Peyton this is my friend Felicity."

"Hi. Sorry about scaring you it was his idea." I point to Oliver.

"Really Oliver?" She asked.

"You and Dig are always telling me I need to lighten up. You got what you paid for." Oliver says just as the door opens up the stairs. It was JD.

"Oliver, Felicity, how are you this lovely evening?" Diggle said with a bag of fries in his hand.

"Hi, JD." I say sitting on the silver table again.

"Peyton? What are you doing here?"

"I invited her. She found out and came down here by herself and watched us without us knowing." Oliver explained.

"How? Oliver you would have heard the door open or Felicity would have."

"Back home, My step-dad was abusive. Being really quiet was one of the only ways not to get beat. He couldn't hear or see me so he couldn't hurt me." I say shrugging my shoulders. My eyes tearing up at the memory. I gripped my shoulder and rubbed a scar that has since healed. This one was inflicted by a beer bottle.

"Peyton, I'm sorry." Diggle said looking at me and passing me the bag of fries after Felicity grabbed a handful.

"It's fine I got used to it."

"That's not something you should be fine with or you should have to get used to." Diggle looked at me saying.

"Oliver, had to get used to whatever happened on the island, my house and my stepdad were like my island. I was just on it a lot longer than he was."

"I'm just going to train her. She is not allowed to come out with me on missions." Oliver dictated.

"Fine. For now." I say looking at Oliver and having a stare down at him.
