CHAPTER FIFTEEN
SMASH THE MIRROR
╚═════ ═════╝
EMMA WAS STILL HIDING, BUT THAT DIDN'T MEAN ANYONE WAS GIVING UP ON HER. Everyone had been seaeching all night for her, including Henry and Teresa, who had joined Henry when he snuck out of the apartment after being told by his grandparents to stay inside with Teresa. They walked in silence, occasionally glancing at one another.
It was Teresa whom broke the silence. "Don't worry, Henry," she said. "We'll find Emma."
Henry response was a sigh. His eyes kept searching his surroundings in search of his mother.
It was then Teresa heard it. As a hunter, she's always had excellent hearing and sight. She shoved her arm out infront of Henry to stop him from walking as she listened closely.
"What?" Henry asked. She shushed him, and then it was clear now.
"Calm down." It was Emma. "Calm cown."
Henry's face lit up and he bolted toward the sound of his birth mother's voice with Teresa right behind him.
They reached a clearing where she was leaning against her yellow car.
"Mom?"
Emma's eyes widened as she pushed herself off of her car. "Henry, Teresa, what are you doing here?"
"We've been out all night looking for you," Henry replied. "Everyone has."
"I told them all to stay away. I can't control my powers right now. Listen, don't worry about me. I'm gonna find a way to fix this, but until I do...You got to go. Both of you."
"No." Henry was determined to get his mother back. He kept walking closer to her, only making Emma tense. "You always think that pulling away from people will fix your problems, but it never does. I can help you."
Emma's gaze dropped to the ground, the dirt beneth her shoes suddenly very interesting as she couldn't bring herself to look her son in the eye. "Henry, just wait. I..."
Teresa watched in worry as Emma's hands began to glow a red color with each step Henry took toward her. With caring eyes, Henry then reached his hand out and gently touched her wrist.
She lost it.
Emma's magic threw was thrust toward Henry, throwing the teenage boy back several feet. He tumbled on the ground before coming to a painful stop, his head pounding as blood bow oozed from a wound on the side of his head.
Teresa and Emma's hearts raced as they ran toward him. "Henry!"
Teresa knelt down beside Henry and helped him into a sitting position. Her eyes widened when she spotted the blood coating his fingers from when he touched his head. She looked at Emma, who forced herself to stay a couple feet away, her hands clutched into tight fists against her chest.
"Henry, are you okay? You okay?" Emma asked, guilt in her blue eyes.
Henry got up with the help of Teresa. "Yeah, I'm...I'm fine."
Emma's eyes widened when she seen the blood on his fingers. "Is that a cut? Henry, what did I do?"
"I-It's fine," Henry reassured her, taking slow steps toward her once again. "I'm okay."
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
"Mom..."
"Stop!" Teresa moved closer to Henry, prepared to next blow if Emma panicked and threw more of her magic toward them. "Please, don't come any closer. I love you, kid, but you got to go. Just go!"
Emma lost control again, sending a wave of magic toward them. Henry hated himself right then and there, because no matter how much he loved his mother, he couldn't help but feel somewhat frightened by her magic.
Emma looked at her with pleading eyes. Teresa nodded and turned to Henry, gripping his wrist. "Henry, come on."
With one last look toward his mother, he began to run with Teresa out of the clearing and back toward the town.
➳
Teresa stepped up to the door of the apartment and twisted the doorknob. She pushed open the door and walked in with Henry, causing all eyes to turn toward them.
"You don't have to look anymore," Henry announced with sadness in his eyes.
David looked at them in confusion. "Henry? Teresa?"
"We thought you were asleep upstairs," Snow said, her eyes trained Henry. "We told you both to stay here while we out looking for Emma."
Teresa rolled her eyes. "Jeez mom, chill."
"What happened?" David asked, his eyes widening slightly at the sight of his grandsons blood.
"I snuck out, okay? And Teresa thought it would be best if she came too. I'm sorry, but we found her."
"How is she?"
"Is she okay? Is she hurt?"
"She's out in the woods," Teresa replied.
"I thought I could help calm her down, but when I showed up, it just made things worse," Henry explained, a saddened expression on his face.
Snow walked over and gently examined is his wound in worry. "Come with me. I'll clean you up in the bathroom." With an arm wrapped around Henry's shoulders, Snow began to lead him toward the bathroom.
"This is bad news," David sighed. "If anyone can calm her down, it's Henry."
"When your powers are out of control, everything's upside down. You don't want to be anywhere near the people you care about."
"Wonderful," Hook said. "Well, shall we send Sneezy after her, then? Or Happy? Which is the dwarf she despises?"
"I was so scared that I would hurt Anna until I finally realized you can't run away from the people who love you because, in the end, they're the only ones who can help you."
➳
Elsa walked down the steps, coming down from Henry's room after checking on the young teenager. After Snow had cleaned him up, he had bolted straight upstairs.
"How is he?" Teresa asked from where she sat across from Hook at one of the tables as they looked over a map of Storybrooke Snow got from Belle at the library.
"I gave him enough ice for the week. It should help with the swelling."
"No," Snow said. "How is he?"
Elsa sighed. "Upset. I just wanted him to understand Emma's magic is tied to her emotions, like mine. The reason she hurt him is because she was trying so hard not to hurt him. It sounds very convoluted when I try to explain it now."
Snow shook her head, rising from her chair. She crossed her arms over her chest as she gave Elsa a silent thankful look for speaking with Henry. "No, no. Um...It makes perfect sense."
The door opened, and Hook perked up. Teresa frowned, knowing he was hoping it would be Emma walking through the door. His shoulders sagged and he turned back toward the map when it was Regina who walked in.
"Where's Henry? Is he okay?"
"He's fine," David reassured her. "He's upstairs. We've been trying to call you all night."
"Well, I'm sorry if I don't respond to your every summons! Though I did bring that locator potion you wanted." Regina slammed the tiny bottle of potion onto the table Snow and David at been sitting at. "Maybe next time, try leading with, thank you."
Regina then turned on her heel, facing Snow. "Now, may I see my son, please?"
"You might want to finish buttoning your shirt first," Snow whispered, making Regina's cheeks flush a soft faint pink color.
Regina quickly fixed her shirt. "Oh. Well, I was in a rush to get here." She moved toward the stairs and Teresa watched her until she disappeared up into Henry's room.
"A locator potion. How does this work, exactly?" Elsa asked.
"We just pour it over anything that belonged to Emma...something..." David looked around in search of something that belonged to Emma. His eyes landed on a red scarf that laid on the table infront of Teresa and Hook. He walked over and picked it up. "Something like this."
Snow's phone then rang. She scrambled to retrieve and when she looked at the screen, her eyes widened. "It's her."
Everyone looked over at her as Snow answered her phone. "Oh, yes, yes. No, he's fine. Emma, I am so sorry about what happened yesterday. I don't want you to ever think that we are afraid of you." There was a short pause as Emma spoke. "No, of course it matters. Emma, no, wait."
Snow sighed as she shut her phone and turned to face the curious eyes of her friends and family.
"What did she say?" Teresa asked.
"She said she's going to get rid of her magic..." Snow paused for a moment. "Forever."
Elsa's eyebrows furrowed. "How is that even possible?"
"She said it will all be over soon, and she can't wait to be home for a cocoa with cinnamon."
"Did she say anything about the method?" Hook questioned. "If it was a spell or...a magic object of some kind?"
"Who cares how she's doing it? That's not what matters here."
"No, you're absolutely right. I wonder if she tried to call me." Hook searched his pocket before sighing. "Bloody hell. I left my talking phone in the back of your truck." Hook began to move toward the door in order to leave.
Teresa watched his every move. She could sense he was lying.
"It's just called a phone," David corrected him.
"What an impractical name. I'll be back in two shakes." Hook opened the door and exited the apartment.
Teresa went after him, having a feeling the pirate was going to go after Emma on his own. And if he did, she was damn well going to go with him. If Henry got hurt, what would Emma do to Hook — someone she was just beginning to care deeply for?
"Where are you going?" Snow asked.
Teresa turned to face them, hand on resting on doorknob. "I'll be right back, don't worry about me."
When she got outside, she found Hook on the phone with Emma.
"Emma, it's Killian. Call me right away, or you may never make it home for cinnamon and cocoa...Ever." Hook hung up and sighed. "Damn it, Swan. Don't tell me you trusted The Crocodile."
"Found your phone awfully quick I see," Teresa voiced. He jumped, swiveling around to face her. She crossed her arms over her chest, raising a crow at him. "Who's this Crocodile that you believe she's made a deal with?"
"Rumplestiltskin."
Teresa furrowed her eyebrows. "Emma's smart, why in the hell would she make a deal with the Dark One? His deals always come with a price."
Hook raised a brow at her. "How would you know? Don't tell me you've made a deal with the Dark One..."
"Once Upon A Time I might have, but this isn't about me — It's about Emma.
"I suppose you are joining me then?"
"If she hurt Henry — her own son — there's no guessing what she might do to you. I mean no offense when I say that, by the way."
"No offense taken."
"Good. Besides, no one should be wondering about with my mother still out there. She won't hurt me, she's made that quite clear."
Hook smiled slightly. "Well then, let's find Emma."
➳
"I can keep sitting here pretending to read about Wolverine, or you can talk about what happened with Emma."
Henry, with an ice pack made by Elsa resting on his wound, sighed. "Nothing to talk about."
This time is was Regina who sighed. "Can I at least look at the wound? Not that I don't trust the ice doctor's diagnosis..."
"Okay, fine."
Regina's eyes softened at the sigh of his red and irritated skin. She gently brushed her fingertip over the small cut, causing him to flinch and let out a quiet grunt of pain.
"Does that hurt?" she asked in concern.
"A little." Regina waved her hand over his cut, healing the sound with her magic. She grinned when he relaxed, no longer in pain. "Not anymore. All better."
Henry ran his hand over his now fully healed wound before turning to face his mother, sadness in his eyes. "It must be nice to have magic and be useful."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I went out there to help her with Teresa, but I couldn't do anything because I'm just...ordinary."
Regina frowned. "Henry. We are each given our own gifts. You have the heart of the truest believer. You brought us all together. Never think you're ordinary just because you don't have magic..." She glanced at her son's comics. "...or claws or...ripped purple shorts." Henry smiled. "Now, don't worry about Emma. She's a hero, and, as we both know..."
"Heroes always win," they continued in unison, smiling afterwards. Regina then leaned forward and placed a gentle and loving kiss to his forehead.
Henry smiled. Even at fifteen he didn't mind the affection he got from his mother.
➳
Teresa and Hook barged into Gold's shop with ever intent to get information out of the Dark One.
"Crocodile?! Where are you?!"
Hook stopped short as his eyes found a handprint burnt into a wooden box. He placed his hand over the handprint, knowing immediately is was Emma's. His heart clenched in worry, for she had been here. "Emma. No. No, no, no."
As Hook pulled out his phone to call Emma, Teresa ran into the back room to check for her there. She sighed after finding the room empty.
"Swan, it's Killian again." Teresa moved back into the other room as she heard him on the phone with Emma again. "You have to listen to me. I know that you've been to see Gold. I saw what you did. And if he's promised to get rid of your powers, don't listen to him. He doesn't want to help you. He wants...he wants to collect your powers in a bloody magic hat. And when he does, you'll be sucked in, too. I...I don't know what he's planning, but I know that he's been lying to Belle. The dagger he gave her is a fake. I only know all this because...because I'm afraid I've been lying to you, too."
Teresa furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, wondering what he meant by that. "Gold blackmailed me into helping him. He knew. He knew I'd do whatever it takes to be with you, and he used it against me. I just wanted to be a better man for you, Swan. But I failed. And now because of it, I might lose you. I'm sorry. But I hope you never forgive me because that means that you'll get this in time to save yourself." He paused, eyes closing in worry. "Goodbye."
His eyes re-opened as he put his phone back into his pocket. Teresa said nothing, but wanting to further upset him — she could tell he really cared for Emma.
Hook heaved a sigh before his eyes landed on a map laid out on the counter. He moved toward it, relief filling his body as he seen a circled location.
"She's going to the manor!" Hook said, bolting toward the door. Teresa hurried after him.
A/N: I think I'm gonna enjoy writing Teresa and Killian from now on. I can see some sarcasm battles for them in the future 😏
