7 - DAIRY QUEEN

"Hi everyone," Snow greeted as she walked into the mayor's office with her husband David at her side. She stopped near Teresa, who sat with Neal in her arms. "And welcome to the very first mayor's fireside chat. For too long, this office was a place to be feared. Well, I want every citizen to feel welcome and included here. So, if you could just refer to the meeting agenda I've printed, there are..."

Archie held up his piece of paper and cleared his throat before speaking. "Uh, what's this about an ice wall?"

"Oh...that's, uh, item four. We'll get to that in a minute."

"I vote we skip items one, two, and three," said Leroy. "Show of hands." The crowd of Storybrooke residents murmured in agreement with his statement and all raised their hands.

"Dwarf, no one asked you for your opinion here," Teresa snapped. She then turned to Snow and gave her friend an encouraging smile. "Continue, Snow."

Snow smiled. "Yeah, that's...oh, fine. No, I can..." She sighed. "I can be flexible. The ice wall is nothing to worry about. For the time being, it does surround the entire town..."

"What?"

"The entire town?"

Leroy stood, furious. "Are you serious?"

Teresa glanced at Snow, but not before glaring at the dwarf. Snow was getting flustered under the pressure and lack of sleep from baby Neal. "Everyone calm down. The wall isn't hurting anyone."

"We've been through all this before. I ain't worried about the wall. I'm worried about who made it."

"The woman who made it is the least of your worries if you don't sit down and shut the hell up," Teresa threatened, standing with baby Neal, who began to cry.

"You know, I think I prefer the old Teresa better. That one was much less cruel," Leroy retorted.

"Well perhaps if you dwarfs fought better I wouldn't have been killed by the queens knights." This caused confused expressions to pull onto their faces, for as soon as Teresa had been brought the portal the future Emma once told her about where she died ceased to exist. Thus, rendering them confused. In their minds, she simply disappeared after being shot with an arrow and they were never about to find her.

"Now sit the hell down and shut your mouth," Teresa continued. "You know me, so you know what I can do."

Leroy closed his mouth and returned to his seat, giving her a glare. Meanwhile, baby Neal began to cry again. David, who was sitting beside Teresa, gently shushed his son while taking him into his own arms.

Snow cleared her throat. "Alright, um, item five. Her name is Elsa. She's a friend."

"Is she the one that froze my truck?"

"We gonna have a problem here?" Teresa asked, threatening to rise up from her seat again. "I just told you to shut the hell up."

"And made that snow monster that almost killed Marian?" Granny added as she sat knitting in the corner.

"Bu...I-I'm fine. Really," Marian said, not wanting to cause an uproar.

David stood. "I've spoken to Elsa, and I promise you we will have all of this under control very soon. And there will be no more danger of any kind."

"So, if we could all just circle back around to item one, we can all discuss..."

"Marian!" All eyes turned towards Marian, who was suddenly collapsing against Robin. "Marian! Marian!"

"What happened? Is she okay?" Asked Snow, her voice full of concern.

"I-I don't know. One moment she was standing, you heard her speak. And the next moment she's collapsing."

Teresa walked over and knelt down before them. Her eyebrows furrowed as she caught sight of an icey-coloured strand of Marian's hair. Reaching forward, she grabbed the strand and instantly, her body stiffened. "Magic," she muttered under breath, eyes widening.

"What?" Robin asked, having not heard her clearly. His eyes searched every inch of Teresa's face, wondering what she was thinking.

"Magic did this," Teresa said, louder than before. "I can feel it."

Robin furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "You can feel magic?"

"I've always been able to, I just don't know why," Teresa replied.

"If this is magic, Regina can help." Robin stood. "If I ask her, she'll help me."

"Wait, I'll go, Robin. Stay with your wife. Besides, a young person like me will be able to run and find her faster than you." After throwing her only father figure a playful smirk that caused Robin to roll his eyes, Teresa moved passed him and out of the mayor's office to find Regina Mills.

─────

"How is she?" Regina asked as she, Henry and Teresa entered her old office where David was poking a burning fire, Snow was rocking her baby and Robin was looking down at his wife with worry. After some searching, Teresa had eventually found both her and Henry at Granny's Diner. She hated to interrupt their mother-son time, but this was urgent.

"Not good. She's getting colder," David informed her.

"Regina, thank you for coming," Robin said, sincerly. Regina nodded in response.

"Yes," Snow agreed, "thank you for coming."

"Don't thank me 'til I've done something." Regina noticed the bird painting on the wall and stopped in her tracks. "Whose idea was that?"

"Oh, I thought I would put my own personal touch on the office."

"Well, you've succeeded. Hideously." Regina walked around the sofa to where to where Robin is kneeling by Marian. "Is there anything you can do?" He asked her

Regina exhaled sharply. "This is strong magic. I-I can't stop it, but maybe I can slow it down."

Footsteps echoed in the foyer and a moment later, Emma entered the room, followed by Hook and Elsa. "What happened?" Emma asked after spotting the frozen Marian.

"Perhaps you should ask your new friend," Regina said, glancing at Elsa. "After all, it was her monster that attacked Marian.

"Well, to be fair, we did provoke the beast," Hook said. Teresa nodded. He has a point.

"But this isn't my magic. Someone else did this," Elsa said.

Regina raised a brow. "Oh, and we're supposed to trust you?"

"You can trust me," Emma said in defense of Elsa. "If she says it was someone else, it was."

"So, how do we break the spell?" Asked Henry.

"The only way to cure a freezing spell is an act of true love," Elsa said.

Regina's face fell. "True loves kiss."

"Well, then there's no time to lose." Robin turned back towards Marian, before leaning down and kissing her. After a few moments, he pulled back when he realized it wasn't working. "What's wrong? Why isn't it working?"

"I've seen this once before, when Frederick was turned to gold," David said, a faraway look in his eyes as her relived the memory within his mind to see if it would help in any way.

"Who the hell's Frederick?" Both Emma and Teresa asked in unison.

"Long story," Henry replied. Teresa and Emma glanced at each other, wondering how Henry knew and they didn't.

Frustrated, Robin stood. "So, the cold is acting as a barrier? Is there nothing we can do?" All he wanted was his wife, the mother of his child, to wake up.

"Well, every curse is different. I need more time to study this one," Regina said, glancing down and rubbing Marian's frozen cheek.

"I'm going to go find who did this before it happens again," Emma said.

"I'll help you," Teresa offered, walking after the blonde.

"Well, I hope you bring more backup them just an archer, Swan."

"What the hell was that supposed to mean?" Emma asked, whipping around to face the woman she shares a son with.

"Well, between the snow monster and the cave-in...it just seems like the savior needs saving these days."

"I think you're bitter and you're taking it out on the wrong person. I'll be fine." Emma turned swiftly, heading towards the door.

Teresa went to follow her, but she stopped when Hook spoke. "Well, I like that battle plan, so I'm with you, Swan.

"No, it's fine. I've got Teresa as backup. Take Elsa to the sheriff's station. Keep her out of sight. Once people get word of this, they're going to be calling for her head."

"I'd rather save yours than hers," Hook said, more concerned for Emma than Elsa. "There's someone dangerous out there."

"I don't have time to argue with you about this. Can you for once just do what I say?" Emma's voice was sharp, suggesting Hook drops the entire conversation before she explodes on him. That being said, she vacated the room, leaving behind a shocked looking Hook.

"I'll make sure she's okay," Teresa said reassuringly to the room before following after Emma.

─────

Not much later was Teresa approaching Robin Hood and the Merry Men's camp with Emma and David. Her bow was in her hand and she had an arrow ready to fire in case whomever was stirring up the chaos presented themself to them.

"Robin and Marian's tent's up ahead," David stated, pointing at their tent. "So, what exactly are we looking for?"

"If whoever cursed Marian has the same powers as Elsa, maybe they left a trail."

"So we split up and we look for anything...cold?" David said. Emma scoffed. "Yeah. Well, shout if you need help, and I'll..."

"Okay. Yeah. I got it," Emma interrupted, irritated. She then walked away towards Robin and Marian's tent. Teresa and David shared a look, David silently asking the teenager what was wrong with his daughter. Teresa shrugged in response and followed Emma.

Just as she approached Emma, Teresa heard movement within the tent. She nouched an arrow and pulled it back as quick as lightening. "Whoever's in there, come out. Now." Immediately, footsteps came towards them and a brunette man was revealed. He had his hands up in surrender as he cautiously stepped completely out.

Before Emma or David could ask the man anything, Teresa spoke. "Will?" She recognized him from the Enchanted Forest, Will Scarlet being a thief.

"Teresa," Will greeted, now wearing a smirk.

"You know this guy?" David asked, glancing at the teenager on his left.

Teresa nodded while narrowing her eyes at the thief before her. "What the hell are you doing in Robin's tent?"

"Answer the question," Emma said, fiercely.

"Who're you?" Will asked, staring at Emma.

"The sheriff."

"I never did like sheriffs very much. Though you do seem like the decent sort, so I'm guessing you're not gonna shoot a man in the back, nor will you let Teresa here let loose that arrow."

Emma stared at him in confusion, and her eyes widened when he suddenly bolted. "Hey, stop!" Emma took off after him, David cutting right to come up on his othed side, an unexpected move on his part that would surprise Will. Teresa, however, let her arrow fly. Will let out a cry of pain and fell to the ground, clutching his leg that now had Teresa Holmes' arrow embedded within it.

"Nice shot," David commented. It had indeed been an impressive shot, considering she had been running and had shot from through many trees.

Teresa smirked. "I know."

David picked him off the ground and made him stand. "Where were you going?" He asked.

Emma finally caught up and came to a stop near them, panting slightly. "I almost had him, but I...fell," she informed them, slightly embarrassed from having revealed she fell.

"Don't worry about it. That's why we have two sheriffs."

"Two sheriffs? Bloody hell. That's not even fair, is it?"

"Who are you?" David asked yet again.

"His name's Will Scarlet. He used to be a Merry Man until him and Robin had a bit of a falling out," Teresa answered for Will.

"So what were you doing in his tent?" Emma inquired.

"Well, I heard what happened to Marian. Terrible thing. But I kind of know something that might help."

"Well, he's not here right now, so tell us."

"Unless you want your other leg to match," Teresa threatened, nouching another arrow and aiming at his unharmed leg.

His eyes widened. "Look, I'm a thief. Always been a thief, always gonna be a thief. And when there's a blackout like the other night, do you know what a thief does?"

"He goes to work."

Will nodded. "Exactly. So, I'm working me way down Main Street when I break into the ice-cream parlour and see the strangest thing. There'd been no electricity for hours, but still all the ice cream was frozen solid. How...how does something like that happen?"

They shared a look and after a moment, Teresa asked with confusion in her eyes, "What's an ice-cream parlour?"

─────

Will Scarlet had taken them to the ice-cream parlour named Any Given Sundae. On the way there, Teresa was unable to contain herself from asking what ice cream was and as they approached the building, she wanted nothing more than to try some. But she couldn't. Not right now; it just wasn't right.

Emma peered through the glass door, and David through the window while Teresa watched Will with a close eye to make sure the thief wouldn't make a run for it again.

"I don't know. Looks pretty normal to me," Emma said, unconvinced by Will's story.

"It was bleeding cold in there, I'm telling you."

"Because they sell ice cream," Emma bluntly stated.

Will gave her a look. "During the blackout."

"Says the guy who's trying to avoid jail."

"I may be a thief, but I'm no liar and I can bloody well prove it." Will moved forward to the door and used a paperclip to begin unlocking the door.

David looked at him in shock. "Really? You think breaking in again is gonna help your case?"

"Can you just be quiet a second, mate? I'm just trying to do this. Takes concentration. Bit tricky," Will said.

"If Emma can do it with a spoon, I'm sure a paperclip is nothing. Get a move on, Scarlet," Teresa said.

David raised a brow at his daughter. "With a spoon?"

"Long story," Emma replied. She then stepped forward and took the paperclip from his hands, her patience wearing thin. "It's all about...yeah, the tumblers. I got it."

David stared at his daughter, impressed. "You do?"

Emma sighed. "Neal taught me a few things." She unlocked the door and pushed it open, causing the bell above the door to jingle. As they walked in, the door shut behind them.

"Emma, it doesn't look like ─ "

"Wait." Emma held up her hand. "Shh...listen."

And so they did, but after a moment of hearing absolutely nothing, David said, " I don't hear nothing."

"Exactly. No compressor hum means no cooling system."

"Wow, smartass here was telling the truth," Teresa said. "That's a first, Scarlet. Congratulations!"

"Piss off, Holmes," Will retorted. He turned to face Emma. "Check the back. You'll see how right I am."

Emma and Teresa walked towards the back room that was known as the freezer with David following in tow.

"Well, look at that. Looks like we owe Will an apology," Emma said.

The bell jingled again from the next room and the sound of a door closing hit their ears. Teresa whipped around and ran into the next room, only to find Will was gone. She cursed under her breath.

"Son of a ─ he's gone." Emma noticed that the cash register was open and all the cash was gone. "And he didn't leave empty-handed." Emma went to follow him, but David stopped her.

"Emma, stop. He's not the most important thing right now."

Emma stared at her father in frustration. "So I just let him go?"

"And then you'll find him."

"Will I?"

"What's going on?" David asked. Emma didn't answer, but her gaze did drop to the floor suggesting that David was right and something was wrong. "Emma, I'm your father. Talk to me."

Emma sighed, closing her eyes for a brief moment. "It's Regina. What she said, she was right. It's like I can't save a cat from a tree right now. It's like I'm the anti-savior."

"You're being a little hard on yourself. We all have bad days," David said, hoping to comfort her.

"Well, I'm having a run of them."

"But you can't lose faith in yourself. Trust me."

Teresa raised an eyebrow at David. "Wow, I can see how you and Snow sit together so perfectly."

─────

After receiving a frantic voicemail from Hook, the group of three ─ Teresa, Emma and David ─ ran through the woods towards Hook's location Emma knew with his phones GPS signal. Something Emma knew would come in handy, and now, in fact, was.

"No!"

Teresa pushed herself to run faster after hearing Elsa's horrified scream. Her, Emma and David entered the clearing, and Emma's eyes widened at the situation that Hook has gotten himself in. His entire lower half was covered with a thick block of ice, allowing him to be frozen in place while ice cicles hung above him, threatening to fall and kill him.

"Hey! Dairy Queen!" Emma shouted, gaining the blonde woman's attention. Immediately, Teresa sent an arrow towards the woman, who froze it and let it drop to the forest floor.

"Teresa? Emma?" Her voice was soft and full of shock. Teresa completely froze in her spot as she stared at the blonde woman before her. It can't be, she thought, after all this time.

"Do we know each other?" Emma asked, confused.

"Of course not," she lied, tears threatening to spill over as she stared between both Teresa and Emma. "Both your reputations precede you. You really think that your magic is a match for mine? Or your bow?" The woman said, quirking a brow.

"There's only one way to find out," Emma said. She thrust her hands forward and sent the blonde woman back, allowing David to rush over to Hook. David began to forcefully bash away the ice around Hook's feet.

Hook looked up to see the sharp iicles begin to dislodge. "No," he muttered.

The woman sat up and commanded the ice to start falling, but Emma used her magic to move both her father and Hook out of the way before they could be stabbed. "You guys okay?" She asked them.

"Yeah, we're fine," David replied, sitting up. "Where is she?"

Emma looked around and frowned. "She's gone."

"Where's Teresa?" David asked, having seen the young girl just moments ago, yet now she was nowhere in sight.

It was then that they realized the archer was not where she had been standing before. "She took her," Hook said.

─────

"No sign of her or Teresa. Not even tracks," Emma informed the group with a heavy sigh before beginning to pace the clearing they were in.

"What is it?" David asked, walking over to his daughter. "You okay? Hey, we're gonna find them. Don't let Regina shake your confidence."

"It's not that. It's this Snow Queen. It's like she didn't just know Elsa. She knew me, too, and Teresa as well."

"Well, you are the sheriff and the savior and royalty. I think pretty much everyone in Storybrooke knows who you are."

"How do you explain her knowing and taking Teresa then?" Emma sighed, running a hand through her blonde locks. "There's something more. It's like, when she said my name, I-I-I don't know. It sounded familiar."

"Well, we'll figure it out. But today you did good. You stopped her. It was a pretty impressive show, sheriff."

"That it was," Hook agreed. "But perhaps we should keep searching, find the villain's lair and Teresa."

Emma narrowed her eyes at the pirate. "So you can almost get yourself killed again? That's exactly why I told you to go to the sheriff's station." Emma walked off and towards Elsa with a sigh. "How are you doing?"

"That woman was lying about my sister. She would never trap me in that urn. She was lying about the past. I just wish I knew the truth."

"I've learned the past has a way of revealing itself. Give it time. We're gonna find her, Elsa. Your sister, Anna, and this Snow Queen. My gut tells me that you two are just pawns. I think this is about something more."

"What makes you say that?" Elsa asked.

"I brought you to this world, Elsa, but it was an accident. The Snow Queen, she was already here. I'm starting to think maybe it wasn't just some curse that brought her to Storybrooke."

─────

That evening, the Snow Queen named Ingrid was walking through the woods. A look of surprise formed on her face when she seen who was waiting for her and sitting on a tree trunk.

"Don't worry, dearie. It's only me," Gold reassured her. "Sorry things didn't work out the way you wanted."

"They will," she replied.

"We shall see. And, uh...did Miss Swan remember you?"

"No."

"That's good for you. Because it could happen. And you wouldn't want that, now, would you? Are you sure you don't want my help?"

"When I'm ready to make a deal, I'll come to you," she told him.

"A moment I eagerly await. Now, you should find some shelter. It's getting quite frosty." Gold went to leave, but stopped abruptly and turned back around. "What of Teresa?"

"My daughter is where she belongs," Ingrid said, "with me."
