Epilogue - Penthouse Blackout (Where'd The Hockey Avengers Go?)
In the Penthouse,
A few hours after Nikita Zadorov's capture and Tyler's grand reveal, the Hockey Avengers have migrated up to their penthouse. They sit down at in the couch, wondering what to do now. They still have the rest of the evening.
"Where Zady?" Val asks.
"I haven't heard from him in a while, to be honest. He's with Brooke though last I checked," Evelyn tells him.
Val nods, but looks concerned. He looks at his feet.
"Val, what's wrong? Do you know something about Zady?" Evelyn asks.
"No, well, I no no...I no feel right. Something off...Zady in trouble, I can feel...sense it. I just know."
"I'll call Brooke and confirm that he's fine, will that make you feel better?" Evelyn asks.
Val nods.
"Alright, I'll be right back." Evelyn smiles at him and leaves the room to get her phone.
Val watches as Evgeni takes Nikita out of the room, communicating in dog speak to him. They vanish from sight. Sidney goes with him. His face is screwed up in thought as though he is contemplating going with his teammate or staying. He decides to go, but something is weighing on his mind and it is obvious. Soon Gabriel, Vlad, John, Jonathan, Patrick, Tyler, Jamie and Val are the only ones remaining in the room.
After a few seconds of silence, the lights overhead flicker. Jonathan parts ways with Patrick's mouth and gets to his feet, intrigued. He looks at the light and attempts to reach up and grab it, when it flashes out. The room falls pitch black.
"Hey, who the hell turned out the damn lights?" Vlad complains.
"It wasn't me!" Tyler remarks.
"It wasn't any of us and I don't like it!" Jonathan says. "I'm going to active my wings and get ready just in case."
Before he can make any move to swipe his hand over his wrist, a bright white light shines from behind the couch. It is in the shape of an oval. There seems to be energy coming from it and it interests the captain of the Blackhawks. Jonathan pads forward toward it, right before three figures appear in the circle.
"Jonny what do you see?" Patrick asks.
Val jumps to his feet and rushes forward. "Zady!" he exclaims. "It's Zady!" He reaches out and tries to grab his friend.
The other two figures clarify on either side of the Colorado defenseman, holding his arms in a way that isn't normal. Jonathan gasps and realizes who they are. He attempts to grab Val, who is sucked into the white light. Jonathan follows him in.
Patrick gets to his feet, not believing his eyes. "Jonny! Jonny! Speak to me baby! Jonathan Bryan Toews, you get out of that light right now! I mean it!" There is no response that comes. Patrick blinks and stomps up to the light. "Jonathan, answer me dammit, I'm your best friend...hell I'm your boyfriend!"
He feels the wind whip around him, before he is sucked into the light, screaming. John, Vlad, Gabriel, Jamie and Tyler get to their feet.
"This isn't good! We have to--" Jamie begins to say, before the light appears to expand and they all gasp and shield their eyes.
Sidney Crosby races back into the room. He opens his mouth ready to say something, but a howling wind drowns out his cry and warning. He shields his face from the light and the wind, as the five remaining Hockey Avengers are sucked into the light and the portal.
"EVELYN!!" Sidney screams. He shakes his head and mutters. "This isn't good at all. Shit, I should have never left the room. Always listen to your conscious, Sidney Crosby, you stupid idiot Penguin."
When the five Avengers open their eyes, they find themselves standing in the center of Madison Street in Chicago, right before the United Center in the daytime. Jonathan and Patrick are hugging each other closely. Val is standing over Nikita Zadorov, who is on the ground, on all fours. The two figures are gone from sight.
"Who were they, Jonny?" Jamie asks, looking around the bizarre setting.
"Avery and Cooke...and this isn't a good thing. Wherever we are...it isn't a good thing. We've got to stick together though," Jonathan says, taking command as the leader.
Before they can start off, more people appear, including Patrice Bergeron, Corey Crawford, Ben Smith, Brandon Saad, Reilly Smith, Nathan Mackinnon, Nikita Nesterov, Jordie Benn, Torey Krug, Brent Seabrook, Niklas Hjalmarsson, and Antti Niemi. They all look confused. Torey is holding a hammer of some kind in his hand and Jordie has a machine gun, similar to the one he had in Dallas.
"What the hell is going on?" Jonathan questions.
"What are we doing in Chicago?" Nathan complains, wrinkling his nose up in disgust. "Of all places!"
"Better question is, what are you doing near me?" Vlad snaps, spinning around to face the Colorado Avalanche scorer. "And if you're here...most likely..." He spots Gabriel and stomps his foot on the ground in fury. "Ice Boy, its been too long!"
"Not long enough. It can never be long enough from seeing your horrible, disgusting face!" Gabriel retorts, cocking a pose. He produces ice crystals from his palm and plays around. "Looks like you need to chill out, Vladdy baby."
Vlad narrows his eyes and glows reddish-orange. "Don't start with me Landy Boo! I'll wreck chaos all up on your ass!"
"Vladdy, no!" Jonathan growls. "Gabe's your friend!"
"No he's not! I could never be friends with a cheater like him!" Vlad snaps, glowing brighter in color.
Jonathan looks at Patrick. "Oh boy, this really isn't good."
"Where are we? I mean...obviously in Chicago...but this isn't Chicago. And where's Avery and Cooke?"
"I don't know, I don't really wanna find out, but we gotta. We gotta find out what's happening and get back to Boston." Jonathan says.
Patrick nods. "I agree."
Jonathan turns and looks around the ghost town Chicago. "Wherever we are, whenever we are, Avery and Cooke are behind it somehow and we may have to work as a team to get out of here alive!"
Dun dun duh...
