Part 3

Dadi 'you both are late'

Khushi gulped looking at her stern face, Arnav fisted his hands, Nani 'Subi leave it, they are newly married'

Dadi 'so? There are no rules that newly married couple should be late'

Arnav 'there are also no rules that they should appear early too'

Dadi 'Arnav you are misbehaving'

Arnav 'I'm not, I'm just stating the fact'

Anjali 'Dadi please leave all this, let us go do the puja' she took Khushi after Dadi grunted a nod; Khushi looked back at Arnav while leaving with Anjali for puja. Nani 'voh madir mein ma nahiin aayengi bitiya' (he will not come inside the temple bitiya) Khushi's face fell which did not gone unnoticed by Arnav.

Shocking others he entered inside the temple of their home and started doing puja with Khushi. Nani 'he is changing for good'

Anjali smiling being emotional to see her brother attending the puja 'yes Nani' Dadi kept quiet.

Once the puja is done, Dadi 'aaj tumhara chula rasam hai toh Khushi tumhe hum sabke liye kuch meetha banana hai' (todau is your first rasoi ritual, so you will prepare a sweet dish for everyone)

Khushi nodded her head, then turning to Anjali 'take her to kitchen and come back, she has to do this herself, no helping hand from you' Khushi gulped.

Arnav looked at Khushi's apprehensive face, once Dadi and Nani got seated in living room he sneaked out to follow behind Anjali and Khushi, Anjali led Khushi into the kitchen and left telling her to make something sweet for them. Khushi looked around the modern kitchen; again, she felt loss, not knowing what to do for fifteen minutes tears started to fill her eyes thinking of Dadi's stern face. Arnav rushed inside seeing her cry.

Khushi hiccupped sniffing wiping her tears, Arnav came near her and made her look at him by cupping her face 'tumhe khana banana nahiin aata' (you don't know to make cook)

Khushi 'nahiin hume khana banana aata hai par yeh sab bohut hi ajeeb hai *pointing her fingers around kitchen*, hum toh ghar par mitti ka chula mein khana banathe hain na' (no, I very well know to cook but I'm not used to this kind of kitchen, in my home back I'm used to cook in mud stove)

Arnav smiled slightly 'iske liye rone ki kya baat hai' (what is there to cry for this?)

Khushi 'par Dadi datengi' (Dadi will scold me)

Arnav sighed 'aao mein tumhari help kar detha hoon' (come let me help you)

Khushi nodded her head; Arnav yet again took the task of helping Khushi about the modern kitchen and the appliance's in its way of work. Arnav folding his hands above his chest leaning against the kitchen slab looked at Khushi who got engrossed in making sweet dish for them but not before asking him what to prepare.

She was going to put sugar in it when he stopped her, taking a small bowl he filled a little amount of kheer for him in it. Khushi 'par isme toh humne abhi tak shakkar nahiin dala' (arey yet I had not put the sugar in it)

Arnav 'isme tumhe dalna bhi nahiin chahiye' (and you should not put the sugar too)

Khushi 'par kyun? Agar shakkar nahiin dalenge toh meetha kaise hoga' (but why? Without adding sugar how will it become sweet)

Arnav 'mujhe shakkar ki bimari hai toh mein meetha nahiin kha saktha' (I'm diabetics so can't have sweets) Khushi's face fell.

Khushi 'toh aap meetha nahiin kha sakhthe' (then you can't have sweets)

Arnav 'no'

Khushi 'par yeh toh acha nahiin hoga na' (but this will not be nice)

Arnav 'don't worry I'm used to it'

Khushi was still not convinced, Arnav 'hum isme unsweetened sugar add kar sakthe hain' Arnav showed her the sugar free tablet. Khushi took the bottle from his hand.

Khushi 'isko milane se meetha hojoyega' (will it become sweet adding this)

Arnav nodded at her, Khushi took a tablet unsure of what to do to. Arnav guided her to put one tablet and stir the kheer. Arnav 'ab yeh meetha hogaya' (now this has become sweet)

Khushi smiled at him 'toh hum aapke liye sweets isse bana sakthe hain' (so can I make sweets for you with the help of this tablet), Arnav 'haan, tum agar mere liye meetha bana chahthi ho toh sugar ke badle is tablet ko us karna' (yes, if you want to make sweet for me then use this sugar free tablet rather than sugar) Khushi nodded at him. She then added sugar for rest of them.

After adding cashew and badam nuts into the kheer she handed it to Arnav who took a spoon from nearby and tasted it. Arnav 'hmmm bahut achhi bani hai' (hmmm it is nice)

Khushi 'sach mein' (really?)

Arnav nodding at her 'yes' he helped her to keep the dish in the tray and ordered her to go to dining area and also not to tell others that he was with her in the kitchen. He in silent feet went out other way as if he was not the one who helped her.

Dadi, Nani and Anjali all arrived at the dining table and lastly Arnav joined them. Anjali 'toh kya banaya hai tumne Khushi' (what did you prepare?)

Khushi 'kheer'

Anjali 'accha, Chotte ko kheer bahut pasand hai, ab app sabko serve kijiye' Khushi shied at her remark and then started serving everyone with starting from Arnav. Nani 'bitiya woh meetha nahiin ka sakthe' (bitiya he cannot have sweet)

Khushi 'voh humne inke liye sugar free se banaya hain' (voh I prepared using sugar free for him' the ladies felt happy to hear this.

Anjali 'par aapko kaise pata Chotte shakkar nahiin le sakthe' (but how did you know that he cannot have sweets?) Khushi opened her mouth to answer.

Arnav not wanting her to disclose that he enlightened her about himself 'Di pass me the water' Anjali passed him the water jug and turned her attention to Kheer which left a hmmm from her side.

Nani 'Kheer bahut achhi bani hai, haina Subi' Dadi agreed with her.

Anjali 'yes very good'

Khushi smiled at them, Dadi 'idhar aao' Khushi went near her who gave her shagun for her first rasoi. Nani too followed her suit, taking blessing from them both, Khushi then got a gift from Anjali who cupped her face and kissed her forehead.

In their room, Arnav looked at Khushi sitting on the bed and occasionally adjusting her saree unconsciously over her head and the pleats. Arnav 'Khushi!!!'

Khushi 'Ji'

Arnav 'tum saree mein comfortable nahiin ho na' (you are not comfortable in saree)

Khushi nodded at him 'shaadhi se pehle kabhi saree nahiin pehne tab toh sirf salwar suit tha' (never used for Sarees before our marriage it was only salwar suit)

Arnav nodded, he looked at his laptop, and he doesn't know what to say next? He is not used to chit chat with any girl before all he did was business dealings, and now he doesn't know what he should say to his wife.

Arnav 'Khushi yahan aao' (Khushi come here)

Khushi walked to him, Arnav made her sit beside him and showed her his laptop screen, Arnav 'isme se kaun sa wala accha hai' (which one is good in all this?)

Khushi looked at the salwar suit glaring at her in the screen 'yeh kya hai?' (what is this?) Touching the laptop with awe

Arnav 'yeh laptop hai, *looking at her perplexed expression* tumne computer dekhi haina *on getting her nod* yeh computer jaise hi hai' (this is laptop, you have seen computer right *on her nod* this is similar to it)

Khushi again looked at the laptop, yes, she has seen computer in her school which her masterni ji uses but never knew how to use it and never seen any laptop before which is similar to computer. Arnav 'aur main online shopping ke website mein hoon, abhi sawal karna chodo mein tumhe baad mein batoanga aur tum ab batao tumhe kaunse Salwar suit acche lage' (and I'm doing online shopping, now leave all this question and I'll explain you later, for now just tell which of these suits you liked the most)

Next one hour went by Khushi pointing out her liked salwar suit and Arnav ordering them to be delivered.

Arnav 'Khushi tum kya padi ho aur kitne tak' (Khushi what did you study and till when)

Khushi 'voh hum sirf dasvi katcha tak pade hain phir buaji ne humari padai rok di' (I studied up to tenth and then buaji stopped me from going to school)

Arnav 'Kyun?'

Khushi 'unhone kaha ki ladki hokar hum zyada pad kar kya karenge, aur hume sara ghar ka kaam seekhne ko kaha' (she said being a girl what I'm going to do with the studies, and asked me to learn house hold things) she got sad remembering how she used to beg her bua to let her study because she loved to but his buaji did not agree and her parents too supported her.

Arnav sighed, the villager's and their mentality about girls should only fit for household works, first should take care of her parents and then marry her off where she should take care of her husband, then her kids and her in laws. He looked at his child wife and felt bad at her fallen face.
