Chapter 46

"She's awake. Ahana's awake." I heard a familiar voice say. I turned around and saw Mr Chauhan standing there with tears in his eyes. We immediately rushed in to see Ahana's mother holding Ahana's hand and talking to her.

I saw Ahana. Her eyes were dull. She looked weak but she looked alive now. She slowly sat up with the nurse's help. I stood there, frozen. I couldn't move. I wanted to rush to her and hug her and never let her go. I don't know if this is just a bad dream or if it's actually happening. I feel like I'm the one who needs help right now.

My vision blurred and one tear drop fell on my cheek. My Ahana. In the hospital. Because of me. I hurt her.

"Re-han" I heard her say softly. I broke down and rushed to her. I hugged her and after five whole minutes, her mother gently pulled me away.

"I am never going to let you out of my sight," I said softly and kissed her cheek.

"Hey. I'm alright. It's okay." She said softly. "No. It's not! I got you into all of this. You're here because of me. I'm so sorry." I said. It's all my fault.

"Ma? Can I talk to Rehaan alone? Please." She asked her mum. Her mum nodded and left the room.

Ahana then turned to me and held my face between her hands. "Listen to me and listen good. All of this isn't your fault. It's Bethany's. Also, if it weren't for you, I don't know what would have happened to me. You saved me. You saved both Aisha and me. How's Aisha?" she said and asked concernedly.

"Aisha's fine. She'll be discharged soon." I said. She held my hand and said, "Rehaan, I'm serious. None of this is your fault. It's not your fault Bethany was obsessed with you. It isn't your fault that you said no to her. This.Isn't. Your. Fault. Trust me."

I smiled sadly. I do trust her but I really think I brought this upon her. I really think it's my fault. I don't think I deserve Ahana. Anybody else in her place would've yelled and screamed at me, but here she is telling me it wasn't my fault when evidently it was.

I removed my hand from hers and said, "I'm going to call the doctor. She has to see you." Ahana nodded and leaned back and sat.

I went outside, sent her mother in and went to call Dr. Pai. Soon Dr. Pai and I went to see Ahana. "Okay, Ahana how are you feeling?" she asked.

"I'm feeling okay." "Any headaches? Blurriness?" Dr. Pai asked. "No."

"Any sort of discomfort?"

"Yes. My leg hurts." Ahana said. "Ah. That is because you have hurt it. You'll need rest for at least three weeks Ahana and you'll be fine." Dr. Pai said.

She checked Ahana's blood pressure and then said, "She's fine. I need to talk to her privately please."

I already knew what she was going to ask. Ahana's mother and I were about to leave the room when I heard Ahana say, "Can he be there?"

I knew by 'he' she meant me. Please, no. What if it's something I can't take? Besides as much as I don't want to, I think I'm going to break off the marriage. She deserves somebody better. Not me.

"Do you want him to be here?" Dr. Pai asked. Ahana must have nodded because Dr. Pai then asked me to stay.

I slowly went and sat on the chair next to Ahana's bed.

"Okay. Ahana do you remember what had happened?" Dr. Pai asked. Ahana nodded. "Bethany kidnapped me and Aisha. And then Rehaan found us. I don't know what happened after that." Ahana replied.

"Not bad. You probably don't remember because you were unconscious." Dr. Pail said

"What happened?" Ahana asked me. "Nothing much. Bethany's father and the police came and arrested her." I said.

Ahana looked surprised when I said 'Bethany's father'. "I'll explain later," I said. She nodded and gave me a small smile.

"Okay. So Ahana, have you been sexually active before?" Dr. Pai asked. Ahana's eyes widened. There. The question I detested. Her cheeks became red and she said, "N-no."

"Alright. Did you do any physical activity in school or college or whenever?" Dr. Pai asked.

"I did dancing and went to horse riding camp for fifteen days in college," Ahana answered. Wow. I didn't know she could ride horses.

"Ah! Alright. You will be discharged tomorrow mainly because we're keeping you under observation for today. And I have prescribed a few pills which you will have to take for two weeks and I will see you later." Dr. Pai said and left.

"Why did she ask me those questions?" Ahana asked. Her cheeks were a little red. I scratched the nape of my neck. How do I answer this?

"Uh, they uh saw that your uh thing wasn't intact, so she uh asked you that," I said awkwardly.

"Thing?" she asked.

"Uh yea"

"Rehaan, what thing?" she asked again. "Your uh hymen," I said softly.

"Oh," she said and then started giggling. "I knew I had torn my hymen in horse riding camp." She said.

"How?" I asked. "Well I bled a little once during the camp and I had an idea." She said. Okay. Awkward.

"Ah."

"But why did she ask me that though?" she asked. "They wanted to check if Bethany and her group had hurt you in any way," I said. "Oh. No, as far as I remember I was beaten but I wasn't assaulted sexually. Thank god." She said.

How the fuck is she so chill? She's so brave and that's making me fall for her more. No, I can't let that happen. I can't ruin her life even more. I have to avoid her.

"I'm going to uh go out for a minute," I said and stood up.

"What happened to 'I am never going to let you out of my sight' huh?" she asked. "Rehaan, I know you still blame yourself for this. You really shouldn't. If you think avoiding me will do whatever, it's not. You'll just be hurting me." She said.

I was surprised. How did she know I was going to avoid her?

"I know you better than you think Rehaan. And if you think about dumping me because of this, I will kick your arse." She said.

My eyes widened. Ahana never cursed like this. She's serious. How does she know me that well?!

I slowly turned around and went towards her. I could see the hurt in her eyes. "Ahana, you deserve someone better," I said softly.

"Do you l-love me?" she asked, her voice cracking. "Of course I do. What question is that?"

" What would you do if something worse happened to me?" she asked with tears in her eyes.

" I would die myself," I answered.

"If I was sexually assaulted, would you leave me cause I'm not a virgin anymore?" She asked. My eyes widened.

"Never. If you can accept me, who isn't a virgin, wholeheartedly, why wouldn't I accept you? There's so much more about you than just this." I answered honestly.

"Were you forced to accept me for marriage?" she asked. "No! It was my decision." I said.

What is she doing?

"Do you think I'll be a good wife?" she asked. "Good? I think you'd be the best."

"And you wouldn't mind marrying me?"

"Mind? I'd be the happiest."

"Then why. Why do you think that I don't deserve you?" she said, tears streaming down her face.

I had no answer to that.

"I make you happy and you make me happy. I want to spend my life with you. And you want to spend your life with me. Then why do you want to ruin something so good?" she asked.

I gulped. I didn't know what to say. I knew she was getting madder by the minute. "You don't get the right to decide who's good for me and who isn't Rehaan. I can decide that myself. My parents are waiting outside. If you really think this is over, then look into my eyes and tell me right now so that I can get off you back." She said angrily.

"No. No baby. I didn't mean it that way. I just want to you to have the perfect husband. And I'm nowhere close to that." I tried to explain.

I understand now. I can't live without her. What was I even thinking?! Ahana is my future and my life. That's it. I can't let her go.

"I'm so sorry baby. I'm so sorry. I didn't want to hurt you. I can't stay without you Ahana. I don't know what I was thinking. I need you in my life. I'm really sorry." I said and a tear slipped down my cheek.

"Rehaan. Nobody is perfect. But together, we can make a small but perfect life for ourselves. I don't want a 'perfect' husband. And I'm not perfect either. But we can work this out. We're perfect together." She explained.

I nodded and hugged her. "I'm never leaving you. I'm so sorry." "It's alright. Just don't ever think like that." She said.

I nodded. Just then our families entered the room. "I spoke to Dr. Pai, you'll be discharged tomorrow." My dad said.

Ahana nodded and said that Dr. Pai had told her.

"I'll be staying with her today." Ahana's mum said I gaped at her.

"No Rehaan. You need to rest. I will stay with her. I am her mother. She's in good hands." She said sternly.

I nodded dejectedly. "Alright."

"The visiting time is over. You have to leave." The nurse said. We all nodded and before leaving I pecked Ahana on the cheek and told her I'd see her tomorrow.

She smiled and nodded. I went home and rested for a while. Bethany and co were going to be in jail for seven years with counseling. And she won't be given bail either. So no trouble guaranteed from her for the next 7 years.

While sleeping, I thought about our future. Ahana and I married. We would buy a dog and maybe a kitten. Then when we're ready, we'd have babies. I sighed. It would be a perfect life. No more troubles.
