Chapter Nineteen

Melody POV

"Okay, what's with the goofy grin?" Renesmee asked me, raising her eyebrow in questioning.

"I don't know what you mean." I responded, still smiling widely as I felt Nahuel's eyes watching me discreetly from across the training field.

Renesmee noticed my glance towards Nahuel, and his large smile in response, and a happy smile settled onto her face.

"Oh, I understand now. I'm happy for you sis." She smiled and hugged me gently.

"Thanks Ren, not a word about this to the others though. There's too much going on right now to bring relationship drama into it."

"Not a word." She smiled and made a 'zipped lips' gesture.

"Melody! We need your opinion on something!" Eleazar called out to me.

I excused myself from my conversation with my sister and headed over to where he and a group of others were standing around looking at a map.

"This is a layout of the Volturi castle, you know these halls better then anyone else, what's the best way to sneak in without being noticed?" My father asked.

"Well, you would want to come in through the tunnels to the left tower, it's not used for anything anymore since it's not really structurally safe. Then you would need to move down the access hallways towards the back part of the castle to remain hidden." I replied.

"Then that's our way in." Eleazar nodded.

"I was thinking...why don't you let me handle Aro myself." I spoke quietly.

"You mean alone?" Benjamin gasped.

"Well, you all would still need to advance and prevent the Volturi from attacking, Marcus and Cauis still need to be handled, but I want to take down Aro myself."

"I'm not sure that's the best decision Melody." My father sighed.

"You don't think I'm capable?" I sneered a little in defiance.

"No! No that's not it at all. It's just, as much as I hate to admit this, Aro was your father for sixteen years. He's important to you, even if you don't want to admit it to yourself, and I don't want guilt to consume you later on." My father smiled sadly at me.

"I'll be fine." I shook off my feeling of dread and turned back to Eleazar. "Let's get back to work."

**********************************

"Easy, just relax." Grampa spoke calmly as pain radiated through my neck.

"I'm trying, it hurts." I spoke trough my teeth, sucking in deep shuttering breaths.

He had me take off my dress shirt, leaving me in my white tank top and dark wash jeans, so he could better treat my neck.

"Ahh!" I screamed as he poured saline all over my neck, back, arm, and chest where the teeth shaped wounds were just healing into scars.

"Sorry, but they needed to be cleaned." He smiled apologetically at me.

"I understand." I gritted my teeth again as he began to dab at each individual scar to clean it.

"Is your skin sill sensitive?" He asked.

"A little. It won't be so bad when they scar over." I responded.

"How are the muscles in your neck doing?" He asked, finishing up cleaning my wounds.

"Still tight." I sighed, trying to stretch my neck, and then grimaced as pain rocketed through my body.

"Hopefully it will get better." He sighed, finishing the last of the bandaging and helping me back into my shirt as a knock sounded at the study door.

"Yes, come in." Grampa called.

"May I steal Melody from you?" Nahuel smiled from the doorway.

"Be my guest." Grampa smiled at him and then winked at me.

My eyes widened in response.

"Oh please, like I didn't know the moment you two met." He chuckled. "When you live in a houseful of perfectly matched mates for as long as I have, you learn to spot the signs." He gestured for me to go with Nahuel.

"Hello pretty Cullén." Nahuel greeted me, smiling brightly, as we reached the tree line.

"Hello Nahuel." I smiled back.

And suddenly our lips were locked together, it was a strange kiss, a hungered one, as if I hadn't seen him in years. My arms were wrapped around his neck, his wrapped around my waist, our hands entwined in the others hair.

It was the perfect moment.

Until his shoulder brushed against mine too roughly, shooting intense pain through my neck.

"Ahh!" I cried, pulling away from him quickly.

"Melody? What's wrong? Oh, I hit your injuries didn't I?" He spoke worriedly.

"I'm fine." I spoke through gritted teeth, trying to smile at him but unable too.

"Come here." He sighed, siting down, and pulling me into his lap.

We sat in silence until the pain faded from my neck.

"I'm okay now." I told him quietly.

"Okay."

We sat there for a little longer.

"You aren't going to let go, are you?" I questioned.

"Nope." He laughed a little, and turned me around on his lap so I was straddling him.

"Good." I smirked, leaning in, kissing him again.

He kissed me back roughly, and I loved it. Every thought left my mind when he kissed me like that. It was just me and him in that moment. His soft skin under my touch and his wonderful scent filling my every sense.

"I've never felt like this before." Nahuel smiled at me when we both pulled away for some deep breaths.

"Neither have I. I've never even had a boyfriend before." I admitted.

"I had never been interested in the idea of finding my mate until I met your family. I had always thought of myself as a monster and blamed myself for my mothers death. But seeing your parents so happy and your sister so kind and wonderful, I guess I realized I wasn't all bad, I was able to forgive myself, and I realized I wanted to experience a love like your family had." He admitted to me. "I just wasn't expecting to find my love in the same family." He laughed a little.

"Come on, we better head back. We leave tomorrow for Volterra." I stood up and pulled him up with me.

"Alright, after this." He smirked.

He gently wrapped an arm around my waist, lent down, and kissed me sweetly, leaving me completely dazed.
