SYNOPSIS!

▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

  ONCE, THE X-MEN WERE a beacon of hope. They proved to mutants all over the world that they were more than what the humans made them out to be. But it wasn't enough. When Mystique assassinated Bolivar Trask, it set off a chain reaction.

  It solidified to world leaders that mutants had become a problem. An illness to be cured. Trask's Sentinel program was put into production unbeknownst to the mutants of the world. For years, they were blissfully unaware, even the X-Men.

  Charles Xavier built his mutant team from the ground up. He had created a family for outcasts. The X-Men had become heroes. For the first time, humanity didn't fear mutants; or so they thought. The first mutant killed by a Sentinel was in 2014. And over the span of ten years, a third of mutants, humans, and those in between were slaughtered. The hopeful future the X-Men represented was crushed.

  When Josephine Blythe turned twelve her mutant powers showed themselves. A daughter of a high-class lawyer and a respected real estate agent, it was bad for business for them to have a freak for a child. She was hidden away from the world until Charles Xavier showed up at their door one day. Her biological family had rejected her, but she found a new family at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

  Alongside Jean Grey and Scott Summers, she was one of the first X-Men. To her, it was her duty to be a hero. Her parents saw her as a burden, useless and easy to discard, but she wanted to show them that being a mutant meant that she could help people and make the world a better place. She became known as Seraphim.

  Logan Howlett came to the X-Men a broken man. With no memory of his past life, he struggled to find his place. But his hurricane of a mind calmed when he met Josephine. She made him want to be a better man. And that she did. Logan and Josephine were an unlikely pair, but no one doubted their love.

  When the first Sentinel attacked, everything changed. The X-Men were unprepared for the war and bloodshed that would follow.

NOTE: Me? Writing a Marvel fic? It's felt like years since Marvel was interesting enough for me to be inspired to write for it again but boy am I happy. Some of you might remember my old X-Men fics, I have ALWAYS loved these characters. Deadpool and Wolverine got me back into the fandom and I am so grateful.

This fic is an AU of Days of Future Past. This means it's not going to follow the film's plot and will be sad (SPOILER)! I really wanted to explore what would happen if Raven actually did kill Trask and Logan never went back to stop it. It's gonna be so angsty y'all get ready.

ALSO Jo and Logan's relationship is pre-established. I wanted to really get into the meat of the story, which would be during the post-apocalyptic future with the Sentinels, meaning there wouldn't really be time to flesh out a love story between them. SO Logan and Jo are married (everyone say awe) at the start of this fic, but that also means it will be EXTRA sad.
