Chapter 1: The Fourth of July

It was the fourth of July in Arlington Heights and everyone in town was preparing for the events leading up to that evening. Most roads were blocked off, making way for the parade that was to take place in just a few hours. Outside of town, Dean Ambrose pulled up to Banks' farms in his classic, red 1966 ford mustang. He walked into the farmhouse to find Johnathan Banks sitting at the kitchen table.

"Good morning, sir." Dean greeted him.

"Morning, Dean. You're here awfully early." Johnathan said as Dean poured himself a cup of coffee.

"Yeah, I thought I would get an early start on things today so I can make it downtown before everything gets closed down." Dean told him.

"Where are you at on the barn?" Johnathan asked him.

"I finished painting yesterday, I just need to get the roof finished." Dean said.

"Well since it's the fourth of July I guess I can let you get away with just doing half of the roof today. You can finish the rest this weekend." Johnathan told him.

"Thank you, Sir." Dean said.

Johnathan looked up at him and laughed.

"You've been working for me for nearly two months, Dean. You can call me Johnathan." He said.

"Right, sorry." Dean laughed at himself.

He took a sip of his coffee as Johnathan got up and looked around nervously.

"Is everything okay?" Dean asked him.

"Yes.. I have to pick my daughter up from the airport in about an hour and I'm just kind of anxious I guess." Johnathan told him.

"Oh, I didn't know you had a daughter." Dean said.

"Yes, my beautiful Sasha.. She is about your age." Jonathan told him.

"Okay, well I'll let you go. I should probably get started on the barn." Dean said as he put his cup of coffee in the sink.

Johnathan smiled politely at Dean as he walked out of the house.

Downtown, Becky Lynch was waiting tables at her mother's cafe. In Arlington Heights, Celia's Cafe was the go to destination for morning coffee. It was only eight in the morning and the cafe was already packed. Becky put up her hair, thinking it would somehow help her waitressing skills. Suddenly, Seth Rollins walked into the cafe with his usual group. His best friend, Roman Reigns was right behind him. Seth's girlfriend, Nikki Bella was nearly attached at his hip, and her best friend, Mandy Rose tagged along behind them.

Becky rolled her eyes and looked over at her mother who was working behind the counter. Her mother laughed and motioned for her to get their orders.

"I can't wait until you see our float, babe. It is so good." Nikki told Seth as she played with her hands.

"I'm sure it's great." Seth said as he put his arm around her in the booth.

Mandy looked over at Becky in annoyance as she approached their table.

"What can I get you guys this morning?" Becky asked.

Seth looked up at Becky as she got out her little notebook.

"I'll have a coffee and an order of hash browns." Mandy told her.

"Give me the blueberry pancakes and an orange juice please." Roman added.

"And I'll have the bacon and scrambled eggs." Nikki said.

Becky wrote down their orders before looking back up at Seth.

"And you?" Becky asked him.

"Um.. I'll just have a coffee and the biscuits and gravy, please." Seth told her.

Becky kept her eyes on his for a second and let out a small laugh to herself.

"Is something funny?" Mandy asked her.

Becky looked over at Mandy and shook her head.

"I'll be back with your drinks." Becky said.

Seth watched curiously as Becky walked away.

"She is so annoying." Mandy said.

"Mandy." Nikki said.

"What? She is.. I mean have you seen the way she dresses?" Mandy asked everyone.

"What does that have to do with anything?" Roman asked.

Mike Mizanan walked into the cafe and sat down with his friends.

"What's up Miz?" Seth asked him.

"Not much, just waiting for Sasha to get back from the airport." HE said.

"Oh right, I forgot she was coming home today." Seth said.

"We were just talking about how annoying Becky is." Mandy told him.

"Oh god."" Miz laughed.

"She's just so.." Mandy began to say.

"Average?" Seth joked.

Becky returned to the table as they all shared a laugh. She was smart enough to realize that they were most likely laughing at her.

"Here's your drinks." Becky said as she handed everyone their beverages.

Suddenly, Mandy knocked over her coffee, spilling it all over Becky.

"Oops!" Mandy said.

"Are you serious right now?" Becky asked in disbelief.

Roman rolled his eyes and stood up to help Becky. He handed her a hand ful of napkins as she looked over at Mandy in annoyance.

"What? It's not like I did it on purpose.." Mandy said.

Seth glanced over at Mandy skeptically as Nikki let out a laugh.

"Don't touch me!" Becky yelled at Roman, not realizing he was only trying to help her.

She stormed off to the back and leaned against the kitchen wall as her eyes filled with tears.

That afternoon on the farm, Johnathan pulled up to the farmhouse with his daughter.

"Welcome home, sweetie." Johnathan said as he parked the car.

Sasha got out of the car and looked out at the barn to find Dean shirtless on the roof.

"Who's that?" She asked as she shut the door.

"That's Dean Ambrose. He's been doing some work for me over the summer." Johnathan said as he grabbed her bags from the trunk.

Dean got down from the roof when he heard the car doors shut. He walked up to the house and wiped the sweat from his forehead as he made his way inside.

"I finished half the roof like like you said and-." Dean began to say as Sasha walked into the kitchen.

He froze for a second as Sasha let out a slight smile.

"Dean this my daughter, Sasha." Johnathan introduce them.

Sasha offered out her hand and looked up at Dean innocently.

"It's nice to meet you, Dean." She said.

Dean looked down at her and shook her hand.

"It certainly is." Dean said with a smile on his face.

Johnathan noticed the glare in Dean's eyes and suddenly got uncomfortable.

"So you're done for the day?" Johnathan asked him.

"Yeah, I can get the rest done this weekend like you said." Dean told him without taking his eyes off Sasha.

Sasha looked down and her feet and smiled to herself.

"I guess I'll see you then, Dean. Thanks." Johnathan said as he opened the door for him.

Dean walked out of the house, smile back politely at Johnathan so he could get another glance as Sasha.

At the cafe, Seth and his friends were enjoying their food while Becky waited on the other tables. Dean walked inside while Becky was behind the counter.

"Morning, bestie!" Dean greeted her as he sat down at the counter.

Becky looked over at him and laguhed.

"You're done on the farm already?" She asked.

"Yeah. I told you we were gong to that thing at the lake tonight." Dean told her.

"I don't know Dean.. That's not really my kind of scene." Becky tried to tell him.

"That's exactly why we are going. You need to get out there, live a little Rebecca." Dean told her.

Becky shook her head reluctantly and poured him a cup of coffee. Seth looked up from his table as Becky laguhed at something Dean said.

"Is that the new guy?" Seth asked.

Everyone looked over and examined Dean.

"Yeah, his name is Dean Ambrose." Roman told him.

Nikki tilted her head slightly as she checked out his backside.

"I would totally sleep with him." Mandy said.

Miz and Roman looked over at Mandy and laughed. Dean took a sip of his coffee as a man apparoched him.

"Dean Ambrose?" The man asked.

"Yeah?" He asked as she turned around.

"My name is Christian Cage. I coach football here at Arlington Heights High School." He said.

Dean looked at his skeptically as Becky tried to ease drop.

"You'll be staring there in the fall, right?" Christian asked him.

"Yeah." Dean told him.

"Tryouts are this weekend. We'd love to have you there." Christian told him.

"Thanks but I'm not really the jock type." Dean told him.

"Just think about it." Christian said.

"Okay." Dean said as Christian walked away.

Becky looked at Dean a laughed.

"I'm not doing it." Dean told her.

"Why not? I thought we were trying new things, Dean? Living a little?" Becky joked.

Seth looked over at Miz and Roman with concern.

"What the hell did coach want with him? Seth asked in frustration.

"You think he's gonna join the team?" Roman asked.

"Not if we have anything to say about it." Miz added as he looked back at Dean.

Later that evening after the parade, Dean had convinced Becky to go to the festival with him. They were currently in the middle of a game of bust a balloon with "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 played over the speakers.Becky watched as Dean popped nearly every balloon on the board.

Spent 24 hours
I need more hours with you

"Congratulations! Pick anything from the top shelf." The guy behind the booth told him.

You spent the weekend
Getting even, ooh ooh

"What do you want?" Dean asked Becky.

She looked up and observe her options.

We spent the late nights
Making things right, between us

"That one." Becky told the man as she pointed at a giant panda bear.

But now it's all good baby
Roll that Backwood baby
And play me close

Dean laughed as they got there prize ad walked away.

Just a few booths down, Seth and his friends were standing at the concession stand when Dean and Becky walked by.

'Cause girls like you
Run around with guys like me

Dean reached over and stole a piece of Becky's cotton candy.

"Hey! Get your own!" She yelled playfully at him.

"I bought it!" Dean told her.

"For me." Becky laughed at him.

Seth watched in annoyance as Dean reached over and tried to grab another piece of cotton candy. Becky pulled away from him.

"That's how you wanna do this?" Dean asked her.

Becky stood back and smiled at him. Dean began to run after her and grabbed her from behind.

"Dean!" She yelled playfully.

"Give me the cotton candy!" Dean laughed.

Mandy watched in amusment as Dean began tickling Becky.

"Who the fuck does this guy think he is?" Seth asked.

BEcky turned around and looked up at Dean as she surrendered her cotton candy.

"Fine! You win." She laughed.

"That's what I thought." He said.

Suddenly, Seth walked up with Roman and Miz.

"Dean Ambrose?" Seth asked him.

The smiles on Becky and Dean's faces quickly faded away as they turned around.

"Can I help you?" Dean asked him.

"No, I just thought I would introduce myself. Seth Rollins." He said as he offered out his hand.

Dean looked down at his hand and laughed.

"Nice to meet you." Dean said as he grabbed Becky and tried to walk away.

"I hope you're not planning on coming to tryouts this weekend." Seth said suddenly.

Becky looked up at Dean with concern as he stopped walking. He turned around and faced Seth.

"And why is that?" Dean asked him curiously.

"Me and my boys have been plaing on the field together since little leagues. You coming in and screwing everything up isn't exactly what we had in mind this season." Seth told him.

Dean laughed and looked at Seth for a second.

"Let's just go, Dean." Becky told him.

Seth looked over at Becky and laughed.

"You should probably listen to your girlfriend." Seth told him.

Dean shook his head in disapproval and walked away.
