{Part 19}
Texas woke up with the sun shining directly in her face. The curtains were open and bright morning light broke in, bathing the bed in sunshine. She groaned and sat up, stretching her arms over her head. Then she froze. Slowly, she looked down beside her to see Lappland snoring peacefully, her pale arm in Texas's lap.
What? Lappland...slept with me? Well, technically, we didn't sleep together in the couple way. She just...fell asleep in the same bed as me. That was harmless, right? We didn't do anything, so that's good. But why? Lappland had never shown any interest in me, and now she's sleeping with her hand dangerously close to...that private area. Texas gently moved Lappland's hand away and slowly slid off the bed as not to wake her up. If she had a short temper when she was awake, Texas didn't want to be the one to wake her up.
Texas did remember Lappland giving her that Russian Nesting Doll. She also seemed pretty protective over it. Why was she suddenly acting the opposite of who she was? I'm used to seeing her as bitchy and arrogant. Besides, the doll was just that: a doll. There was no significance that would attract a girl like Lappland. Texas shook her head and left the room, heading down the hall to the laundry room where her outfit was. There was a bedroom beside the laundry room, and Texas peeked inside. Exusiai was snoring loudly, laying face down on the bed in shorts and her usual t-shirt. Texas smiled and grabbed her clothes, slipping into the bathroom to change before anyone else

The sound of laughter and the clatter of dishes made Texas feel like she was in the lunch room back at Penguin Logistics. She sat at the island counter in the kitchen sharpening her swords while Sora and Croissant played a game called Just Dance. Texas had never heard of it, and from the look of it, she knew it wasn't her style.
Red pulled a box or crackers from a cupboard and leaned her forearms on the counter, munching quietly. "Crazy little rascals, huh?"
Texas nodded but stayed attentive on her swords. While they hadn't fought anyone yet, she wanted to always be prepared. Getting caught off guard was something Texas wasn't familiar with.
"Why do you work with them? Not to be rude, but you don't look like the type to be a teamwork person." Red tossed another handful of crackers into her mouth and looked expectantly at Texas.
She shrugged and slid the sword over the whetstone at a 30 degree angle, her eyes concentrated and unwavering. "I do not mind their presence, as long as we can get the job done."
Red plopped her head on the counter, making Texas glance over at her. Red walked around the counter and sat beside Texas with a serious look on her face. Her gray hair fell over her yellow eyes, shadowing her face. " "Were you beat as a kid?"
Texas stopped and stared at her. "No," She said with a raised eyebrow.
"Then why the hell are you so stoic and serious? It's annoying. Tell me: have you ever had a funnel cake?"
Texas had no clue what the girl was after and stopped sharpening her sword. "What is a funnel cake?"
Red looked defeated. She hung her head and grabbed Texas's arm, shaking it. "Oh, you poor stupid little person."
Texas tilted her head to the side. "Excuse me?" To say she was confused would be an understatement. What was Red getting at? What did it matter that Texas had never had something called "funnel cake?" She was a trained fighter. Her schedule called for her complete and utter attention. She didn't want to waste time on silly things that wouldn't help her improve her skills.
Red stood and pulled Texas from her chair. "Okay, you. It's time for you to experience life."
"What? I was not finished -" Texas attempted to manuever away but was pushed forward towards Sora and Croissant.
"Yes, you were." Red snatched a remote from the coffee table and shoved in into Texas's hand. "You are going to dance to a song that...I'm sorry, I forgot your name."
"Croissant." Croissant said with a smile.
Red nodded. "Right. Croissant. She is going to pick a song and you are going to dance to it. And I don't want to hear how you can't dance. Just follow the steps and have fun."
Texas shook her head. "I apologize, but dancing really is not my thing. I must sharpen my weapons so we are prepared when we find Click." She turned around to set the remote onto the coffee table, but Red turned her right back around.
"Nope. The swords can wait. Now, dance, you little weirdo." Red sat down on the couch and crossed her arms, a smirk on her face.
Texas looked at the song choices, her arms limp at her sides. Dancing was never her thing. She had seen similar shows on TV, but she never paid much attention to it. Her focus was always on getting stronger and helping the Logistics with any sort of problem that would arrive. Her brain was used to solving difficult problems with ease. But video games were something she only heard about. Staff members she'd walk past would talk about the coolest video games that were so awesome, but she never asked about what games they were talking about because she really didn't care. She wasn't a video game person.
She looked back at Red with a straight face. "I do not wish to play this game."
"Too bad, so sad. Dance and be a person." Red waved her hand at the screen.
Sora smiled. "I think you'll do great. Just follow along with the little figures at the bottom of the screen and you'll be fine."
"Yeah. This game is fun." Croissant patted her shoulder.
Texas sighed in defeat and snatched the remote from Croissant, clicking on the first song she saw. Her brain told her to get back to her swords and focus on finding Click. She wanted to only be gone for four days, so she'd be back quickly to help with the press issue. But with Red, Sora, and Croissant all telling her to have fun, she felt like she was trapped.
To be honest, she'd never actually spent time for herself. She was so fixated on her job and her missions that taking care of herself was something she always forgot. Just this morning, Exusiai had to remind her to eat. She looked down at the remote in her hand and gripped it tightly. Maybe one song won't be so bad.
The song began to play, a soft and rhythmic tune with upbeat bursts every few seconds. Texas stared at the bright colors and funky wardrobe the dancer wore, her eyes scanning over everything that crossed the screen. She did as Sora said and paid attention to the little dancers in the left corner of the screen. She fumbled to copy them, nearly tripping over a new move. Sora exchanged a look with Croissant and gave a nervous smile. It was obvious that Texas clearly wasn't a dancer.
From upstairs, Lappland and Exusiai were fighting over a t-shirt. As ridiculous as that sounded, Exusiai was taking it very seriously.
"Lappland, I want it! It fits me better!" Exusiai complained loudly.
"No way. I have a big chest and this shirt is just my size. Back off, shortie. " Lappland growled, clutching the fabric as she tugged it towards her body. Exusiai was short and didn't have much in the way of muscle, so this was really a battle of who wanted it more. Lappland was tall and had strong and defined muscles along her stomach and legs, so she had better balance and was practically holding Exusiai up.
"Not true, I have a chest too!" Exusiai snapped.
"Where?" Lappland retorted, then froze, her ears perking up at the sound of music. Music? Ugh, are Sora and Croissant still playing that annoying game? Why do old people even have a dancing game? Wouldn't they break their hips playing it? That's it. I'm going down there to shut them up. Lappland abruptly let go of the shirt, causing Exusiai to fall backwards. She stomped downstairs and was prepared to yell when her voice died in her throat.
Was Texas...dancing? Huh. That's new.
