Arjun's POV
"No, no" I shook my head, biting my lips, "See, you both can't escape every time, alright?" I eyed them a bit sternly, but they just blinked and puffed their cheeks up. These two had dived, yeah not jumped, dived into the newly created water puddles real hard after a morning downpour. I would've managed if they had only wet a part of their lower garment but right now they were drenched with wet mud from head to toe.
"Bhrata Arjun---"
Now they want me to save them?
That too from Maatas and Jyesth? Really?
The only person who can save them is Pitashree, but he ain't here to be the moral support right now.
A new day and a new chaos.
"Fine fine," I tried to calm them down when both of them burst out in tears, at the exact same moment. I began to dust their clothes frantically, resulting in my garments getting wet too. "Alright, pause crying you both first, will you?"
"Maata Maadri will punish us," Sahadev snaked an arm around my waist, seeking assurance while Nakul lowered his head and looked on. I clicked my tongue and lifted Sahadev up in my arms and wrapped his palms around my neck and started carrying him towards the hut.
"And why do you feel that Maata Madri will not lash out on me?" I whispered in the youngest one's ear, scrunching up my forehead in apprehension. Maata Maadri, oh she was a compassionate soul, dedicated and unwavered. Though she appeared quite strict at times, it was quite evident that she too showered love on us, including the three of us who weren't her biological sons.
"Be-because you are her favorite.." They both whimpered at the same time, making me gasp a bit.
These two can just butter under any circumstances.
Do I look to them like a God or something to save them from punishment? I mentally rolled my eyes, skeptical about what the scene is going to be created as soon as we reach home. These two will be saved, but I guess I will be down with sit ups.
I gathered Sahadev properly and marched towards our humble hut with complete confidence, preparing to take all the blame upon me. A lean woman draped in humble clothes of saffron was continuously sweeping nearby and wiping the beads of sweat on her forehead.
"What on earth just happened?!" She raised her brows, cupping her mouth as she scanned the three of us up and down. Sahadev just simply gasped and dipped his head in my shoulder, while Nakul just slithered behind me with an innocent face. Her face narrowed along with her eyes as she squinted them at Nakul, while I raised my shoulders and peeked at her.
"Maa, that...uh-" I searched for a proper answer but was tongue tied, as Maata Madri crossed arms across her bosom.
"Enough Arjun, it's high time that you halt taking their sides from now." Her brows knitted, as she extended her arms and clasped Sahadev from behind and gathered her in shoulder, "These two, are just naughtier than monkeys!"
Nakul flinched, while Sahadev just firmed his eyes shut, as Maata smacked his head in annoyance and grabbed Nakul's hand, dragging him inside.
"Maa, don't be harsh, no!" I instantly rushed inside as Nakul glanced at me with a worried face, calling out her name.
"What happened Paarth?" she instantly made the duo sit, rushing out to bring fresh clothes, "These two will--wait and watch till their Pitashree comes!"
"Maa, but they aren't at fault!" I followed Maata Madri behind wherever she went with an innocent face, trying to attract her attention. But she completely ignored my pleadings this time.
Look how much I have to lie because of them. And these two?
"What happened?" A tall figurine's slightly masculine voice attracted our attention as I spun my head towards him. He gave me a light tipped smile and waggled his eyebrows, asking me about the situation while I pointed at the two duo who were huddled with each other with messy clothes.
Jyesth Yudhishthir-
Now they don't stand even a chance.
I bit my lips and folded my palms pleadingly, asking him to play along but he knitted his eyebrows, crossing his arms. The duo's face turned paler but they attempted to pout, in order to win over Jyesth by their side but that wasn't going to be easy.
"Wait you both," Maata Madri gritted her teeth, while she rubbed Sahadev's tresses and began to change his angavastra and dhoti. Nakul was probably waiting for his share of spanks, while Jyesth sighed, leaning against the wall.
"Maa.." I whined again, glancing at Jyesth pleadingly. I don't know, but his words always had an effect on Maata Madri for some reason or the other.
"Maa, forgive them please." I sighed in relief as Jyesth intervened, crawling up towards the youngsters, "Please?"
"No, not you again Yudhishthir!" She scanned him and turned away, changing Nakul clothes and smacking his head, "How many times should I explain you both--"
"Maa?"
"No!"
"What if you two get hurt?! Don't you understand simple words?" she spun around and glared hard, "Mischievous maniacs would raise the entire house in their heads."
Okay, this is turning really chaotic now-
Maata ain't in the mood of listening to Jyesth either, who gave a slight shrug of give up. Alright now, only one thing can help it
"Maata!" I immediately rushed and flung my arms around her waist, completely sticking myself to her torso and shutting my eyes, "Maa, Maa-Maa!" I began kneading my head in her drape, gripping her tight, "Maa, I love you! Maa, I love you now please calm down?" I modulated my voice in a childish tone, not able to figure out a better method.
I didn't even care to turn behind to witness Jyesth's reaction, he must be face palming real hard while I could sense Maata raising up her hands in complete surprise, "Maa, you are best. You are the best mother on this entire earth!"
"No-now please calm down you anger, please?" I whined, slightly hanging down from her and slithering to her limbs. I just smiled, clinging to her leg and kneading my cheek.
Am I that bad at buttering?
I blinked at her twice and bit my lips, who was in complete awe as to what just occurred. I peeked towards the other side, watching Jyesth somehow trying to cover up his laughter which was threatening to erupt with his palm.
"Oh-um-"
"Oh-oh, al-alright." She shook her head with an exasperated sigh, glancing at the two of them with wide eyes, "But I will speak to your father. Don't you both think you'll be saved!"
I mentally sighed in relief.
"And you? You're done buttering?" she lowered her lashes with a half smile, while I grinned at her cheekily and stood up, smoothening my clothes. I continued grinning at her sheepishly with my head lowered down slightly, while she shook her own and strode away.
