"Is she in here, Toulouse?" I asked following him inside me and Dalton's walk in closet. I went to seek his help after I looked everywhere and couldn't find her. I knew he'd know because he follows her everywhere and know's all of her favorite spots.
And nothing less, there she was curled up in a corner in some random position with her iPad watching Cocomelon. I playfully rolled my eyes "You and this 'Cocomelon' Aaliyah! Come on bubs, it's time for a break." I raised my voice a little to get her attention.
"You wanna wanna watch with me?" She asked turning around.
"Yes, maybe later, but now it's time for you to give that to mommy, you need to go find something else to do" I took the device from her. The most she gets on it is an hour per day, I refuse to raise an iPad kid.
"But mommy!" She whined standing up trying to get it back from me. "I want it now."
I knelt down, "I suppose you can earn it back. Your playroom looks like a complete mess, how about you clean it up for me and if you do a good job, I'll give you a little more time"
Aaliyah whined again "No mommy! That's gonna take me forever!"
I pretend pouted, "Well if you kept that room clean, it wouldn't be an issue, now would it?" I added tilting me head to the side.
Aaliyah stomped her foot at me. "That's not fair!"
I narrowed my eyes at her tone. She's been in her little 'Aaliyah attitude' all day with me and I've tried, and tried, but she's starting to put me on edge. My patience with her stretches on miles and miles but when she begins to act like this, it becomes very thin.
"Don't argue with me, go now." I ordered.
"No, you're getting on my nerves." She crossed her arms, tapping her foot against the floor, staying put. God, the nerve of this child.
"Alright then, since you wanna act like that. You can go the rest of the day without," I held up her iPad. "this. Oh, and maybe even tomorrow too. And guess what? You're still gonna go and clean that fucking room."
"Uh Uh, it's not my job to clean it. That's YOUR job" Aaliyah said.
"Aaliyah, you're making mommy upset, I suggest you follow directions so we can continue to have a nice day." I took some slow and easy breaths as my eye began to twitch. All this over a damn iPad.
"No. It's not fucking fair! I want my iPad."
My eyes widened in disbelief. "Excuse me?! What did you just say?"
"I SAID I WANT MY FUCKING IPAD!!!" Aaliyah yelled just as Dalton entered the room.
"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?" He yelled, in just as much shock as I was. Oh the boldness of her.
I never really thought too much of it whenever Aaliyah would use words like that, because majority of the time it was my fault anyways. I do keep in mind to stay cautious about what I say around her, but if I ever accidentally let one slip and later on hear Aaliyah repeat it, I make sure to tell her that it's not a word a small child should use. But this time, I know Aaliyah was aware of what the word meant and I was not at all pleased in the context she used it in.
"Looks like we've got ourselves a potty-mouth child here. Don't we baby?" I told Dalton leaning my head back as he came up behind me.
"Yes, Aaliyah hasn't mommy already told you about using words like that. It's not cute, and it's not funny, and we don't want to hear you use that word, especially not like that ever again. You understand?" Dalton said sternly. Aaliyah nodded.
"I'll make sure she doesn't say it again." I grabbed Aaliyah's wrist dragging her out the room. She started crying, saying that I was holding onto her too tight. "Stop crying, no one's hit you." I sat her up on the bathroom counter. "After this, if I hear you speak like that again, to either me or daddy, i'm gonna whoop your ass."
Aaliyah stayed quiet watching my every move. I pulled out a fresh bar of soap. "Only time I'm doing this, to teach you a lesson. Open your mouth."
Aaliyah seeing the soap, quickly covered her mouth, shaking her head 'no'.
"Open. Now, or I'll go get the belt. You know I hate repeating myself, I'm not telling you again." I threatened holding the bar up to her face.
Aaliyah complied, opening her mouth. Without another word, I jammed the bar of soap in her mouth. She immediately tried to spit it out but I held it in place, along with her hands. "Stay still."
Tears rolled down her face as she whimpered, closing her eyes. I felt terrible about doing this, but in order for her to know not to say things like that again, she has to learn someway. And I rather do this then hit her, even if she does deserve it for the attitude she's had with me all day.
"This is what happens when you disrespect me and your father. And when you use language like that. I've told you over, and over. You are a child. You don't speak to us in that manner, EVER. I am very displeased with your behavior today, hm."
"So," I sighed "Are you going to do it again?"
Aaliyah quickly shook her head.
"Okay then,"
"ARIANA IT'S BEEN A MINUTE THAT'S ENOUGH" Dalton shouted from the kitchen.
"Alright, you can take it out now. Use that soap to wash your hands, it's time for dinner."
