Chapter 28: Pursuit
Aria's POV
The buildings around me continued to creak and groan as I opened the door to the room where Richard and I had stayed together. As my eyes caught sight of the bed and I remembered what had occurred there, the lights throughout the place began to flicker, and the ceiling bowed and cracked toward me. Going to the dresser in the bedroom, I pulled out the set of black sweatpants and a t-shirt. I had to hurry and get out of here before the room collapsed inward toward me. The gravity that my black hole was generating was becoming too strong for this place. As I made my way back toward the front entrance door, the glass of the long windows cracked and shattered. That was my cue to leave.
Stepping outside, Janos and Roarke both stood waiting with their mobile phones in their hands. Roarke approached me and spoke quietly. "The packs on the east coast have been notified about where you will be going and why. They are going to be waiting for you in Somerset, Maine at Nightwing Estate should you need them. I...uh, I'm sorry about Richard, Aria." His downcast eyes brought me up short.
"Roarke, it is going to be okay. I'll get him out of there. It's not as if he's dead." I looked back and forth between him and Janos.
Roarke raised his eyes to Janos. "You wanna tell her, man? I can't." Janos looked down to the cement before he raised his eyes to mine.
"Roarke lost his mate to those bastards in Nightwing Estate, six years ago. You are either kept as a slave, or you die there once they drain you. There is no in-between. I wish there was, but there isn't. I'm sorry." Janos had spoken softly yet clearly.
The weight of the situation began to settle heavily on my shoulders and my inner focus began to narrow as I contained my destructive power as much as I could. In silence, Roarke and Janos followed me out toward the parking lot where all the blood had been spilled. The wind swirled viciously around all the blood, gore, and corpses. I held my arms out to hold the men back as I changed the molecular structure of all the waste and blasted it all into oblivion. Slowly, the wind died down as my core stopped spinning as fast. The two men looked around noticing that the area was cleaner than they ever remembered it. "So let me get this straight..." Janos scratched his head as he looked at me from the side. "...you dried up all that blood, smashed up all the carnage, ground it all into dust, and now you carry it all within the black hole in your chest?" At my nod, he whistled loudly. "Did that help in burning up your anger over all this?"
With a frown, I gazed at him from over my shoulder. "Not in the least. You may not want to follow me once I hit the open fields in the distance. At that point, anything or anyone that gets near me won't be safe. Plus, I'll be traveling far too fast for you to keep up." Taking a few steps off to the right in the direction of the fields, I stopped and asked them both, "What was her name?"
Roarke was the first to pipe up. "Her name is Ella." So he still holds out hope that she's still alive...
Nodding, I started a deliberate walk toward the fields. "Even though you wanted to pull a power play with me just like Gabriel does, I'll keep an eye out for her, because it's the right thing to do," I called out, then disappeared into a cloud of thick, swirling dust.

Gabriel Black's POV
In my dark-paneled office, things were quiet for the moment. Sitting in my Burgundy leather chair behind my desk, I yanked back on the hair of my newly acquired human, to bare his neck to my fangs better. On his knees from blood loss, this fellow still tries to put up a struggle now and then. Richard, I believe he is called. Aria's boy toy.
For a human I will give him credit, Richard has a strong will that won't break, though it will bend. They always do.
Finally giving up on trying to finish my meal, I push him onto his hands and knees, then kick him in the ass hard sending him sprawling across the Persian rug. Reaching over to the edge of the mahogany desk, I push a small white button and my assistant Helena comes inside and closed the door behind her. She looks lovely today in blueish/purple thigh-high dress with one-inch straps. "Helena, be a dear and take this human into the second bedroom where he might rest. He's a bit low, so he'll need some orange juice. But I want him kept chained up if you know what I mean." She rolled her eyes at me as flipped her long blonde hair.
"Look, Gabriel, I don't give a shit what you do with him, and I am not going to babysit. You want me to get the guys, to help pick his carcass up and outta here? He is a bit on the big side."
Lightning fast, I came around the desk and had my fangs at her throat. "I don't care how you get it done, just GET IT DONE! Am I clear?" My third assistant this week, and it's only Tuesday. I doubt if this one will last the day.
"Yes, Sir," Helena answered with just the right quiver of fear in her voice.
Her body trembled where I held onto her, so I let her go. Turning away, she opened the door and called to the men. They came in quickly in their black suits and left carrying an unconscious Richard Weston.
As I walked back to my desk I admired the black lace curtains that covered the French doors and pulled them aside. It was going to be a glorious day.
Then I heard the voice of one that I was in absolutely no mood to hear. "Gabriel, news reports are coming in about some kind of contained 'twister' heading in this direction. It has been cutting a deep furrow in the earth as it travels. It's huge! The damage path has been unbelievable. News teams are showing satellite photography of this thing. Maybe we should take precautions?" Anton, the over-excitable. I wish he'd just shut up.
But then his words struck me, and I grinned from ear to ear. "So, she's coming after the puny human after all, perfect..." I mumbled to myself then turned to face the overachiever. "Thank you, Anton. No precautions are necessary... It's Aria, and she is really pissed off. Tell security to just let her pass as she arrives. Now, please leave." Nodding, Anton took off fast out the door and into the main lobby. In the blink of an eye, I crossed the room, and made it into the light-filled lobby, grasping him by the shoulder. "I take that back," I whispered close to his ear. "Tell them all to run..."
