CHAPTER THREE

MANY DAYS FLEW by, and Ares had successfully built up the persona of being an extremely skilled supernatural hunter. He only did it to give Dean the time that he needed to break the news to his brother that he was getting it on with an actual god. It took a lot of convincing for Sam to trust Ares, but nothing that a little bit of magic couldn't help.
In the hours that passed by them, Ares became absolutely certain that the being that the brothers described as 'the Devil,' was the one that he had been sent on a wild goose chase by his father to locate. He just needed to wait until they track down the unknown whereabouts of this male before contacting his sons, and calling them to arms.
The Winchesters explained how the seal closing off a place known as hell (which Ares associated with the Tartarus of the underworld), had been bursted open by Sam himself, and this Lucifer character had come crawling out. Thus, the Apocalypse was now looming over planet Earth like one large cloud of poisonous gas.
In the dining room of the hotel the men were residing in, Dean had a large quantity of pistols spread out along the table in front of him. As he loaded all of them, the Olympian stood behind him with his arms wrapped around Dean's waist, and his head resting on his shoulder. Sam was not in their room, so the two were allowed to be flirtatious with one another at their leisure. "You know, you look hot when you are loading up those death machines."
"Death machines?" Dean laughed.
Ares chuckled softly. "Sure. We used swords and arrows back in my prime time. Little less efficient, but still got the job done."
"'Back in my prime time.' As if you're not still thriving. You're an actual god!"
"Oh, agápi mou, people do not worship the Hellenic religion that allowed me and my divine counterparts to rule over them. We are simply figments of one's imagination."
Dean gave him a confused glance. "Agampi- what?"
"Agápi mou. It means 'my love' in my native tongue." Ares let out a small chuckle. Dean turned around so the two were facing each other. The distance between them was small, and Dean could feel Ares's lips ghost over his own. "Quit teasing." The god spoke distastefully. Dean smirked before colliding their lips together in pure passion. The two stayed that way for a while, just simply basking in the other's presence.
However, their time was short, for they both suddenly heard the faint sound of the front door unlocking. Ares immediately teleported himself away from Dean, and onto the dining room chair across the table. He grabbed a book, and propped his feet up on the surface, to make him seem more relaxed. Dean turned back around, and began to load the guns, as he was doing before.
Sam opened the door, walked a few feet into the room and called out, "Here," as he threw a bag to each of the other males in the room. "Hex bags. No way the angels will find us with those. Demons, either, for that matter."
"Where'd you get it?" Dean asked.
Sam carried a proud look on his face as he replied, "I made it."
"How?" Ares piped up as he inspected the small, brown bag closely.
Sam hesitated. "I. . ." Ares glanced over at Dean to see him giving his brother a cold, yet concerned look. "I learned it from Ruby."
Ares knew of Ruby solely from Dean's perspective. He knew her as a demon that took control of Sam, and manipulated him. He knew that she was dead, though, and she was one of the main reasons that the seal was broken.
"Speaking of. . ." Dean started after pondering for a second. "How you doing? Are you jonesing for another hit of bitch blood or what?"
Sam shook his head with his mouth agape, trying to find the right words to use. "I-It's weird. Uh, tell you the truth, I'm fine. No shakes, no fever. It's like whoever. . . Put me on that plane cleaned me right up."
"Supernatural methadone." Dean remarked.
"Yeah, I guess." There was a small pause before Sam piped up again, "Dean--"
"Sam." His older brother sternly replied as he turned and walked back towards his pistols. "It's okay. You don't have to say anything."
The younger Winchester chuckled lightly. "Well, that's good. Because what can I even say? 'I'm sorry. I screwed up'? Doesn't really do it justice, you know? Look, there's nothing I can do or say that will ever make this right --"
"So why do you keep bringing it up?" Dean bursted out. Ares cautiously glanced between the two siblings after Dean's little outburst. The sudden feeling of guilt crept up to the god's chest, as he began to believe that he was intruding on a private conversation. The Olympian slowly stood to his feet, and so he stood to his feet and warily walked towards the fridge across the kitchen.
As he opened the appliance's door, a blinding, blue light caught his eye from outside of the window. Slowly, Ares glided to the glass pane, only to watch the luminescence vanish from his sight completely. He knew that illuminations like the one he just witnessed, were one of the great gods in their true form that could only be seen by others of the same nature.
All of a sudden, the hotel room fell into a complete, and utter silence. Ares whipped his head to the brothers, to see them frozen, mid conversation, with their mouths agape as if they were fishing for their next words. With furrowed eyebrows, the Olympian hesitantly approached them, but before he could reach them, the door bursted open with a loud bang! Ares, in a sudden panic, aimed his hands at the entranceway, ready to smite whoever walked through.
However, he didn't have to, because his godly sister, Pallas Athene, marched through. "Ares." Her demanding voice boomed.
"My beloved sister! To what do I owe this pleasure?" Ares smiled while walking towards the bed, and plopping himself down on it.
Athene rolled her eyes. "You have made a grave mistake."
"Have I?" Ares pondered aloud while trying to think of a moment where he possibly could have. "No, I do not believe I did. I am simply following the orders of our father."
Athene stalked over towards her brother with a crazed look in her eyes. "You trusted mortals! You told them of your true origin! Father is absolutely furious."
"I trusted one mortal." Ares spat back as he sat up, causing their faces to be in close proximity. "I trust him. He would never tell anyone, because his life would be in some deep shit, too."
Fury was clear in Athens's face as she replied, "You don't even know him! You've known him for what, four days, and suddenly you're praising him as if he's the love of your life? You don't know him well enough to be spilling your secrets! Because of this, now they're written in a fucking book for the entire world to read."
"What the hell are you going on about?" Ares asked with a perplexed look on his face.
Athene let out a sigh. "You'll find out soon enough. Just know, you fucked up, brother. You need to erase his memory when you are finished with your mission. Father's orders. He will fix the rest of your mess."
Ares was silent as he watched his divine sister turn, and began to stalk towards the door. Before she stepped through, she turned to face him from across the room. "I wish you the best of luck in fulfilling your duties, so you can clean up this fucking mess you've made."
"Yeah, whatever." Ares rolled his eyes while waving her off with his hand. At that moment, Athene fled the room, and the door slammed shut. At that exact moment, time continued once again, and The Winchesters had finished their conversation.
Ares noticed Sam giving him a confused look. "Weren't you just over there a second ago?"
A
LATER THAT DAY, the three hunters were dispersed around the hotel room. Sam was hunched over a book at the kitchen table, while Dean and Ares were sitting beside each other on one of the queen-sized beds, watching the television screen in front of them. At first glance, the two seemed completely normal, but looking in closer detail, the scene would be considered odd for they were sharing a bed while an empty one sat directly to their right.
They both carried so much tension between them as they sat beside each other. They could not express their true feelings towards one another, for Dean feared of what Sam might think. When the younger Winchester wasn't looking though, the two would share little looks and other quirks with each other. Like, for instance, at that moment they looked normal at first glance. However, at a second look, Ares was really leaning into his lover's side, with his head on his shoulder, and their hands grasped together. They couldn't control their affections with each other when Sam posed no threat.
"Yeah, right, wavy gravy." Dean muttered as the two of them listened to the program that the tv displayed before the eldest Winchester could change the channel.
A few seconds later, a soft knock was heard throughout the room. Ares sprang into a panic as he teleported himself away from Dean, and onto the identical bed a few feet away.
Sam stood from his seat at the dining room table, shot the other men a questioning glance, and slowly reached for his pistol. As he approached the entrance way, Sam positioned the gun against the wood, and slowly opened it. Ares could not see what was happening on the other end for Sam's large stature was blocking his view.
"You okay, lady?" Sam asked with concern clear in his voice.
The person on the other side gasped out, "Sam. . . Is it really you?" She then walked a little forwards, and Ares could finally tell that it was a young, blonde woman. She placed her hand on Sam's pectoral muscle, and let out a gasp. "And you're so firm!"
Sam, obviously uncomfortable, muttered, "Uh. . . Do I know you?"
"No." The woman sighed and retracted her hand. "But I know you. You're Sam Winchester. And you're. . ." She stopped once she caught sight of Dean sitting on the bed behind his brother. ". . . Not what I pictured." Ares let out a small snicker when Dean's face scrunched up in confusion.
The woman walked farther into the room, "I'm Becky. I read all about you guys. And I've even written a few --" She stopped herself with a nervous giggle. She then laid her eyes on Ares, who was sitting with his legs crossed and arms folded on the bed to her left. "You must be Ares! Oh my god, your godly-ness! I can't believe I'm in the presence of the Ares, legendary hunter!" She finished while throwing a wink at him after her last statement.
Ares turned and gave Dean a shocked and frantic look, for she knew of his secret that he had told no soul on Earth, except for Dean, about. "Did I forget to mention that I also have a book about my life that you can read?" The Winchester smirked. Ares let out a huff as he sat up in the bed.
Ares pondered over the words of Dean, and associated them with those of his sister. If Becky had known about him being a god, who else did too? Ares had so many questions, but it wasn't a time to ask them.
"Mr. Edlund told me where you were." Becky continued as she now grasped the attention of the three hunters.
"Chuck?"
"He's got a message, but he's being watched. Angels. Nice change up to the Mythology, by the way. The demon stuff was getting kind of old, but I do like the throwing in of Greek mythology. That's a nice touch." She threw a glance over at Ares, who was actually getting quite fed up with the fact that she knew literally all of his secrets.
Sam continued the conversation, "Right. Just, um. . . What's the message?"
"He had a vision. 'The Michael sword is on Earth. The angels lost it.'" Becky replied.
Dean furrowed his eyebrows. "The Michael sword?"
"Becky, does he know where it is?"
"In a castle, on a hill made of forty-two dogs."
Ares made a confused look. "Forty-two dogs? Are. . . you sure you got that right?"
"It does't make sense. but that's what he said. I memorized every word. . ." She paused to place her hand back onto Sam's pectoral muscle. "For you."
It was clear to see the discomfort of Sam's entire body as he said, "Um. . . Becky, C-- Uh, can you. . . quit touching me?"
"No." She replied hastily while moving her hand in a circular motion.
Ares laughed, for he had no idea what they had all just gotten into.
