TDO Agency

(Didn't know how to call this chapter, so I just named it that.)

Darryl's Pov:

I went to the training area at the agency to practice my skills a bit more. But in the end, I've just been sitting on a bench, staring off into space. Thankfully, there's currently nobody here to see me slacking off. Honestly, I'm just thinking about Zak. It seems like he has completely taken over my days. Especially after I kissed him at the park. The thought of it starts to bring a smile on my face. But it quickly falters as my thoughts are interrupted by someone. I snap my head towards George as he says, "Are my eyes deceiving me, or did I just see you smile?"

I grumble and say, "I was just thinking about the success of my latest missions."

George gives me a suspicious look. He shrugs it off but soon says, "But in all seriousness, lately you have seemed less... I don't know- um... moody? Gloomy? What I'm trying to say is you seem more relaxed... less stressed."

He then looks over at the untouched bots and targets used for training. He glances at me for a moment before looking back at the clean training area. I hear him mumble out, "And it seems like you haven't exactly had your head in the game lately..."

He then snaps his head back at me and asks, "So, tell me Badboyhalo, has something happened to you recently? I'm guessing it's something good, no? Since your behavior has been... more tolerable?"

I scoff at him and say, "What happens in my life is none of your concern. Plus, it's not even allowed to know each other's secret identities in the public nor tell anyone from the public our agent identities. It's the rule from the agency, and it applies to every agent."

"I know. But that doesn't mean we all can't get to know each other better. It's okay as long as we don't know each other's identities... Everyone here takes that rule too seriously."

"Maybe you should too."

George groans with a displeased look on his face. After a moment, he calms down and says, "Anyway... I wanted to let you know that Technoblade wants to see you."

I slightly perk up from this. I slightly hum and ask, "Am I getting a new mission?"

George shrugs and says, "Don't know. But that's most likely the case. I mean- that's what mostly happens when someone gets sent to his office."

I nod at his words and stand up. I nonchalantly walk past George, murmuring a quiet thank you once I'm close to him. Even though I'm known as very serious and moody at the agency, that's no excuse to have no manners. I leave George in the training area as I walk out the automatic doors, on my way to the head agent's office.

-------------------------------------------------------------

After minutes of walking down long hallways, I finally arrive at Technoblade's office. I stand outside of the door to the office, looking at the small black sign on the door, having the words 'HEAD AGENT'S OFFICE' engraved in white. I finally knock on the door. Immediately, I hear Technoblade's booming voice say loudly, "Who is it?"

I quickly respond with, "It is Agent Badboyhalo, sir."

"Come in."

I follow his commands and open the door, soon following inside the room. Once I'm in the office, I shut the door behind me. The room is quite big, filled with shelves and cabinets. In the middle of the room, holds a desk, and on top, it has a computer along with a stack of paper, a folder, and a pencil holder containing pencils and pens. Technoblade is seated behind the desk, with his eyes glued to the screen of his computer. He doesn't waste any time in doing his work. Every so often, there is a clicking or typing sound from his keyboard or mouse.

In front of his desk is a single chair. But it is rare for anyone to actually sit on it, as these short meetings where your presence is called to the head agent's office are normally short. Hence why I'm not going to sit down. Technoblade likes to do things rather quickly. He doesn't like wasting his time in small matters. If someone is ever asked to sit on the chair in front of his desk, then you know that the meeting is either long or serious. Or both. Without looking at me, Technoblade says, "I've been expecting you for quite some time now, Badboyhalo."

His tone suggests that he's been waiting for me for a while. Which he doesn't like. For him, waiting is normally a nuisance or waste of time. I would say that George thought it was a good idea to make small talk with me before mentioning that he called me. But it would sound like I was making up excuses, and Technoblade doesn't like that. So I just respond with, "Sorry, sir. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again."

He gives me a hum of approval. I then ask, "Have you called me to assign my next mission, sir?"

His eyes still fixed on the computer, Technoblade says, "Yes. I have. Your mission is something that you're not usually used to. You will be playing a bit of a waiting game in order to take action while hiding in the shadows. It isn't for certain yet if you will even have to take action in the mission."

...Am I hearing this right? Is he saying what I think he's saying? After a thoughtful moment, as I register everything, I ask, "...Like a backup?"

Not once in my whole career as an agent have I ever had the role of being backup during a mission. I don't like the thought of being a backup, a last resort. I like to immediately take action, not sit around and wait for someone else to screw up or give a signal before I can make a move. If you are given a signal, you have to quite literally depend on the person giving the signal, hoping that they don't screw it all up or else you were there for nothing. I don't like having to depend on others to a level where you can't do anything until they do something. (Don't we love an independent king?) I guess Technoblade and I are similar in the way that we don't like to waste our time.

The question seems to stun Technoblade for a moment. It's almost as if the thought alone hasn't crossed his mind while planning to assign me this mission. He quickly goes back to normal, clicking on his computer, seeming completely unfazed. In his usual monotone voice, he says, "I wouldn't say that. It's more like we want to use the element of surprise... and I thought you were the perfect person to use as a 'surprise' for the enemy. ...Plus, I don't have much confidence in the other agent that I have assigned this to."

"If you don't have confidence in them, then why didn't you just give me the main role."

"Because, Badboyhalo, you dont practice much on your impersonation skills, do you?"

The question takes me aback. I have used impersonation skills for a cover that I've been assigned to on a few past missions. Every successful agent has some sort of impersonation skills. But I don't have much practice on them. For once, during this meeting, Technoblade looks at me, studying my face. I lightly shake my head and give him a look, asking to elaborate more. He sighs before looking back at his computer and saying, "I would have given you the main role on this mission, which includes having a cover,  but it wouldn't be a good idea considering who we know is going to be there. It's none other than Agent Skeppy."

I slightly widen my eyes once I hear the name. No wonder he didn't give me the main role... I would be basically playing an acting game with Skeppy, and compared to his impersonation skills, he would easily take the cake. Technoblade continues, "We know how that would end if you had the main role. Playing a cover against Skeppy is basically like we're playing the game that he invented.  It's even riskier with what we have planned this time. There are other agents on the mission pretending to rob some stuff as bait while you and your partner are going to try and capture Skeppy."

"How would we know who he is?"

"Because I have done research, as I've said before in the agent meeting, and I've had my eye on someone who I believe is one of Skeppy's covers. We're not 100% sure if the person is him or not, but this mission is aiming to figure that out. If everything goes well and we manage to get Skeppy in a corner where he has to break act, confirming that it's him, then we can finally capture him."

"And if it's not him?"

"We'll just give the person a drug to forget everything. Any other details are on this folder. You can also go and ask your partner for the mission. Their agent name is in the folder."

He slides to me across his desk, the folder that was next to him. He's basically dismissing me. I quickly go grab the folder and walk out of the room. I might actually get a chance to be face to face with Skeppy... I can't wait to see what happens.
