Epilogue
Zak's Pov:
After I told Eret that I was quitting the agency, he immediately took action to make it seem like I died in the spy world. I asked him to do that since I just wanted to live the rest of my life peacefully without there being a risk of someone wanting me dead. He really thought of everything because he somehow was able to pull off taking my character, Zoe, out of the picture. He made it seem to people that knew Zoe, like Zoe's group of friends, that Zoe died due to an accident. I feel sorry for the girls, but it's just how things had to be. I hope they can move on.
Anyway, it's been a month since I've woken up, and Darryl has moved into my house with me. Somehow, he was able to sell his house with some profit since he kept his previous furniture there. He just took his other belongings with him. We've been pretty happy so far, and my wound has fully healed. We are content with how things are at the moment. Our life at the moment could be seen as boring since it's pretty chill and we mostly stay at home, but it's peaceful. Something that we have both needed without realizing.
Right now, we are in the main part of town. At first, we were just viewing random stores and their items. But at the moment, we are at a small restaurant that we thought would be good to eat at since we were visiting shops. We just finished eating our dinner, and Darryl is currently using the restroom. So, I'm just drinking the last of my coke as I wait for Darryl to come back at the table that we were seated at outside. I then take a look around me, and my eye catches something familiar. Or more like... someone familiar.
As I stare at the person in the distance, I realize that it's Sapnap. It's definitely the same person. It's just that right now, Sapnap goes by something else since we are in public, the real world, not the spy world. Sapnap must've felt like someone was staring at him since he turns to look my way after a few seconds, and then his gaze lands on me. I can tell from this distance that the way his eyes widened, that he definitely caught sight of me. After a few moments of just staring at each other, frozen in place, Sapnap finally takes action and starts walking towards me. Once he is standing in front of me, he smiles a bit nervously and says, "Hey... it's good to see you."
I show him a confident smile to make things less awkward. I say, "Of course it is. It's quite a pleasure to see you after some time."
Sapnap seems to get more comfortable at that. He grins at me and puts out his hand for me to shake. He then says, "My name's Nick."
My gaze flicks from his face to his hand and back up to his face. I grin back at him as I take his hand to shake and say, "Zak."
"How have you been so far?"
"Pretty good. I actually quite like this new life I'm experiencing."
"That's good. I'm glad you're happy."
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Darryl coming out of the restaurant. Looks like he came back from the restroom. I set my gaze on him, and he looks quite puzzled at the fact that there's someone speaking to me right now. Once he goes toward our table, his eyes slightly widen in realization. He must have recognized Sapnap's- or, Nick's face. Nick then notices Darryl, and his eyes seem to widen as well. He must remember Darryl's face. To not make this awkward, I quickly say, "Darryl! This is Nick. Nick, this is Darryl, my boyfriend."
Nick looks at me for a moment with his eyes still slightly widened. He says in a hushed tone, "He's actually-?"
He cuts himself off, not daring to finish the sentence. But it's obvious what he wanted to say. I just give him a nod. He blinks at me and then looks at Darryl. After a moment, he smiles at Darryl and puts his hand out for Darryl to shake. He says, "It's good to meet you. Zak has told me great things about you."
I feel my face flush for a moment at the comment. Darryl gazes at me for a moment and gives a sly smirk. He says in a mischievous tone, "Oh, did he now?"
But he quickly disregards the topic as he takes Nick's hand to shake. He says, "Nice to meet you too, Nick."
After a moment of consideration, I stand up and say, "You know what? We should all get to know each other better. Darryl and I are just looking around here for a nice outing. Do you want to join us, Nick?"
Nick considers this for a moment before nervously asking, "You guys won't mind...?"
Nick nervously looks at Darryl, but he just gives an encouraging smile. Darryl says, "Of course we won't. The more, the merrier, no?"
Nick smiles at that. He says, "Well, if that's the case... Alright then- I'll join you guys!"
After that, Nick, also known as Sapnap in the spy world, joins Darryl and I in just walking around the main part of town and taking a look around. It was quite fun. We were able to joke around a bit and check out a bunch of small stores. After the whole thing, Nick and I shared our phone numbers to stay in contact. We both hope that now we are able to achieve some sort of friendship out here in the real world since we were mostly just coworkers back in the agency.
On the way back home in the car as Darryl was driving, I just kept looking out the window with a big smile on my face. I can't help but think that this is it. That everything is looking up from here on out. I have a lover, a friend, I quit the job that I hated, and who knows what else in the future. Mom, Dad, sister, though it may not be what you thought for me, but I finally found happiness in life. Happiness that doesn't only depend on you. I am able to find happiness in different areas and aspects of my life, perfectly balanced from my private and social life, just like how it always should've been. For once in my whole life, I feel like I can't wait for what lies in my future.
(That's the end of "Aren't we Supposed to be Enemies...?" Hope you enjoyed it! See you in my next book. 😊😁)
