al-Qaeda was trying to build a number of muscle hijackers assigned to each flight. The 9/11 commission identifies no fewer than nine men who over the course of the final year, were nominated to fill the position of the "twentieth hijackers."

The tickets for the September 11 flights were reserved between August 25 and August 31.By this time the hijack teams had begun to form in their final groups. Five men for Flight 11, Five for Flight 175, Five for flight 77, and four for Flight 93.

Then, sometime on September 10, as the clock ticked towards the Zero Hour, Jarrah composed an emotional letter to Aysel Senguen, his girlfriend in germany where they met five years earlier. It was the closet thing to a suicide note from any of the hijackers. She never received it. We know of its existence only because Jarrah made a mistake in the address and it found its way to the hands of the FBI after September 11.

"I do not want you to be sad. I am still alive somewhere, where you can not see and hear me, but i will see you and know how you are doing. I will wait for you until you come to me. There comes a time for everyone to make a move. It is my fault that i gave you so many hopes about marriage, wedding, children, family, and many other things. I am what you wish for, but unfortunately you must wait a little bit until we will be together again. I did not flee from you, but did what i was supposed to do. You ought to be very proud, because it is an honor, and you will see the result, and everybody will be happy."
