A New Generation
I went to church today. WAIT! Before you decide that this is no longer anything worth your time, hear me out.
Today my pastor said something that makes total sense, and while most of you who read this probably won't want to hear it, this is something everyone needs to hear.
He pointed out that today's media is out there trying to make us fear. I soon realized that it made sense.
Think about it.
Just these past few weeks alone with the 2016 presidential election in America. Each side of the campaign wanted you to fear the America that would be the outcome from the other candidate being elected.
Clinton wanted people to believe that Trump would come to their home and kick them out of the country for their ethnicity.
Trump wanted to make people believe that Hilary would sell out all of our secrets and destroy us from the inside.
I'm not here now to bash either side, but to point this out. Fear can make us think irrationally, and cause us to do whatever we're told by the media.
Now, not to compare anyone to Hitler, but he is a very well-known person to have used this tactic. He began to tell people that the Jews were the cause of the bad things happening in their country- poor economy, and the like. This fear instilled in the people led to people no longer thinking of their lives, but of what they could do to solve their problem. And, as a result, many lives were lost.
Fear can do a lot to us. But, it isn't always to that extreme. Look at many car commercials. They show someone getting into a crash (or just barely avoiding one thanks to the car) and then being safe. This makes us fear ourselves getting hurt, and we want the safer car.
That's just how we work as a human being.
However, there's a new idea out there that there are only two things that we are born afraid of: the fear of falling, and a fear of loud noises. These are purely survival instincts, and even they can be surpassed to an extent. All other fears are learned.
This is what we need. Anything that can be learned, can also be unlearned. We can be the generation that looks at the fear being instilled in us by everything and everyone around us and say no. No, we are not going to be afraid of the things that lie ahead.
We aren't going to act irrationally and lash out because of small changes in our lives. We can start a movement.
If even a small portion of us begin to look outside of fear and look to future with optimism, we can change how things work.
The power of the mind is unbelievable, and if we understand that we don't have to be afraid, and we can think rationally, we will realize that we are the power of change in our world.
Some brilliant quotes that come to mind are:
"We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes."
~Charles R. Swindoll
"As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do."
~Muhatma Ghandi
That's all I have to say. Always be cheerful.
God Bless America!
