Part 7

Lake

1128 hours

Station Demeter.

If you knew Lake well you would know a couple things about him such as you shouldn't wake him up when hes trying to sleep, you can keep him from falling asleep, but if you wake him up from sleeping while hes still tired, he'll probably slug you across the jaw.

Luckily this time when Lake was woken up it was James who had done the need and he was easily fast enough and strong enough to intercept lakes lazy punch.

Lake looked around and realize he was leaning against one of the gyms wall.

"What happened?" asked Lake drowsily, rubbing his eyes before realizing that he didn't have his helmet on.

"You walked over to the gym wall to take a breather but fell asleep while you were there."

Lake stretched his arms out and James stood up and took a step back as Lake felt around for his helmet.

He found it next to his left side and quickly picked it up.

"The assistant director didn't wake me up?" asked lake as he slowly stood up, wobbling slightly as his legs tried to keep him from falling back to the floor.

"No, because everyone else was in the same condition, everyone else wanted to thank you for being the cause of the director dismissing us all."

"Im sure they consider me a national hero and build a statue in my honor" muttered lake as he stood up lazily stretching once again "I need something to wake me up."

"Come on, im sure the mess has something that will keep you awake."

Lake nodded before following James to the mess where a couple other people already were, eating snacks and getting there morning dose of coffee or hot coco, or etcetera.

lake walked over to one of four beverage tables where all the drinks were laid out, ripe for the taking, James grabbed a biscuit and Lake himself got a nice looking mug and poured himself some coffee.

"So wheres everyone else right now?" asked Lake, blowing on the coffee slightly.

"Either asleep or relaxing in someway mostly. a couple are exercising. Richard is helping Chronos with improving the Bloody Mary's cyber defense."

"Why is he doing that?" asked Lake suspiciously before taking a sip of coffee, letting the hot liquid slide down his throat, Richard wasn't the type to just use his talent for coding with a single request.

"She ordered him to." replied James stiffly.

"Ahh." nodded Lake, leaning against the table, that made a lot more sense.

They stood there for a bit, just eating there snacks, Lake sipping his coffee, James grabbing his own cup of coffee and dipping his biscuit in it before chomping down into it. something Lake didn't find appealing.

"You know, I sometimes wonder if there's really any point in charging for food now a days" Thought Lake aloud, trying to spark a conversation since the silence really was getting to him, he would have liked to pick a different topic but he knew James wasn't interested in most things like the ending of a recent tv sh ow.

"What do you mean?" asked James. setting down his cup of coffee.

"I mean seriously, everyone can get a super fast growing seed of a plant and most of the time it will grow up into a full blown plant in a week, and then you have a bunch more super fast growing seeds, which you can then plant and they'll grow in a week, the cycle continues until eventually your growing more crops a week then the entire world did when we first started lifting off of earth. I mean, look at the inflation rate? eventually a pennies going to get you a years worth of bread."

"Because, in a year plants still bring in about four hundred thousand and seven hundred Mints a year on adverage."

"For who, farmers or Pangea?."

"farmers individual."

Lake whistled quietly "that's a heck of a lot of cash."

"Yeah. we still charge for land, that price is barely going down. and a lot of people aren't interested in buying land that will require either themselves working the land or for them to flesh out money hiring workers or buying robots and paying to keep them active, to many other jobs are just much more appealing. which means the farmers who are farming even though the price for there product is falling, its usually because they just got another acre or two and more of there product can hit the market. and since fewer people join professional farming now, they don't have much competition"

"Oh" replied Lake, he hadn't expected that detailed of a explanation.

"So I assume that answers your question?"

"Um, yeah, I guess it does."

"Good" replied James picked up his coffee mug and taking a swig. licking his lips to keep it from dribbling down his neck.

"Warning, landing in hanger in five minutes, warning, landing in hangar in five minutes" came a intense electronic voice from the ships speakers, there was no flashing red lights, no siren that made everyone alert, but it still got peoples attention.

"Well then, guess that ruins my chances of getting another nap."

"Yes, Yes it does"replied James gruffly, calmly as he began to leave the cafeteria.

Lake finished his coffee quickly before setting it down and running to catch up with James.

James slow deliberate steps made it look like he was moving slowly, but his long strides easily made up for it and he was already turning the corner by the time Lake kept up.

"We're you trying to ditch me?" asked Lake suspiciously as he tried to settle into the same type of strides as James, before failing and just adjusting into a quicker version of his normal walk

"No, I was just making sure I was in the hanger as soon as possible, my intention was not to leave you behind."

"Mhm."replied Lake, fake suspiciously, he knew James didn't joke around like that but it was fun annoying him. "and I assume that the way your walking is your normal way of walking?"

"Yes."

"So your usually faster then me?"

"On average yes, are you not the one who is walking faster then normal to keep up with me?"

Lake stopped talking for a moment as he considered the before replying calmly "yes, yes I am" before shutting up.

They continued walking in silence toward the hanger. a couple people joining them as they walked, they were probably thinking "yeah, I want to be at the front of the line to leave" even if they didn't know Lake or James personally.

"Hold up" said one of the random people "your some of those Demeter guys, aren't you?"

Lake grinned "yeah, what of it?"

"I mean, its nice to meat you."

"Nice to meet you to kid." replied Lake.

One of the others nudged the random person in the side "come on, ask for his autograph, you know you want to."

The first person shoved the second person "shut up Eren."

"Oh great, now people are fighting for my autograph" muttered Lake to James who simply nodded quietly.

The other people continued bickering as they entered the hanger, which was barely a hanger considering it was only for launching dropships and for the troops to walk in and out of the ship via ramp but it still counted.

Most of the people in the hanger were Demeter members, who were to get out first since this was after all, there stop, the others wouldn't be at the station if it weren't for the Demeter members, Lake wondered whether or not they liked that. being diverted from the norm and such.

Lake glanced downward at the ramp that would soon lead them to there new base of operations, it was both scary and cool to think about working aboard a asteroid cluster, cool because. well, you were living in asteroid, scary because a asteroid cluster is a lot weaker then a planet and more vulnerable then a planet.

So you win some you lose some Lake guessed.

"Landing in hanger in one minute" said the electronic voice again, as if nobody knew that they were going to be landing in a hanger in just a moment.

Lake walked around in a circle for a bit, trying to entertain himself while they landed and the ramp was prepared to be opened.

But indeed, the ramp did open, even if it did take a bit for it to finally touch down on the cold metal floor but it made it.

"Welp, lets get this show on the road." said Oro calmly, standing up from the crate he had been sitting on.

"I hope we get a good director, I don't think I could stand constantly having to correct him or her on stuff." replied Daisy, Demeter's Mechanic.

"Ditto" agreed Oro as the Demeter members began walking down the ramp, Lake and James included.

Lake spotted Elizabeth and Tyson among the other people and gave them a small wave, Elizabeth nodded back while Tyson didn't appear to notice, or he did notice and was being rude instead.

As they reached the bottom of the ramp, plodding off the phaliq ramp and onto the other type of metal floor of the floating station, Lake realized that there was only one old lookin man there.

"Why hello there"
