Yeoseodeo

"Oppa, you'll never believe it!" Sofia's grin filled the screen of my phone.

"What is it?" I already knew the answer but decided to let her humour me.

"I went to Busan and Eomma revealed the family secret," my sister was no doubt told to speak in code. No doubt, I would see her induction photos the next time I was home.

"Congratulations," I held both of my thumbs up.

"We're also on a research mission," she started getting ahead of herself because she was excited.

"Hold up, what do you mean by 'a research mission'?" we had never received a request like this before.

"Someone made a wish at the shrine," the mermaid explained. "When mum searched the memories of the girl who made the wish, she learned that Eunha's mum has this terminal mental illness. Oh mah gawd, I wasn't supposed to reveal her name."

"Soph, we had this discussion before," I decided to pretend like I hadn't learned the identity of the idol.

"I know, I know, I'm sorry," she bowed.

"I wish I were there to help you two," I sighed, thinking about Seventeen's comeback.

"Relax, we got it," our parents joined the video chat.

As I lay down, thoughts of Eunha noona came unbidden. I didn't know how I would manage if my mum didn't recognise me and had to be kept in a hospice. The next time I saw her, I'd be nicer. Well, not so nicely as to have Jeongguk sunbae threatening me with his red-black belt in Taekwondo.
