Prologue
I sighed softly. I was bored. The Royal family and me were at the Great Bay Palace, we were always here. And it was awful warm out. Sure, The Palace was on a beach, but it usually wasn't this hot. I heard the Princes come running in.
"Mako! Mako! What are you doing just laying here?!" The one asked. I looked up at him. It was Prince Current. His scales were a pale blue with lighter blue stripes. Making it look like he was actually water rippling. I got up and bowed, showing respect to the Princes. Though, their parents didn't want me to do that because I was also treated with respect. I have no royal blood. That's for sure.
"Mother and Father want you right away. I dunno why though." Current shrugged. His silvery eyes told me it was probably urgent. I exhaled.
"Alright. I'll go see them. Do you know where they are?" I said raising a brow.
"Yeah! Follow us!" Orcais said. Current and Tide rolled their eyes and groaned. I chuckled, following my good friends.
"Current! Tide! Orcais! Mako!" The Queen grinned widely. Showing her pearl white shark-like teeth. I bowed again in respect. "Maaaakooooo." The Queen gave me a look.
"Sorry your majesty." I bit the tip of my tongue as I stood up straight.
"Don't call me that either. I thought I told you to just call me by my name."
"Forgive me. I prefer showing respect to a higher rank." I responded quietly.
"Child." Queen Pearl frowned. A soft look going across her face. "I know you show respect to a higher rank. But, I don't want you doing the same to others. You are part of the Royal family now. Put the past behind you. Those stupid Shade Dragons put you through hell. And I will kill every. Single. Last. One of them."
"Pearl." A male's voice said. I lowered my head again. It was the king. He was really nice to me just like the Queen and Princes. "The only reason he's here is because we need to tell him the truth. About his parents." I looked up at the King quickly.
"What?" I stared at them like they were crazy.
"Mako. Your parents were our greatest friends. But they weren't killed by Shade Dragons. They were killed by..." The Queen trailed off on her sentence.
"They were murdered by a few Light Dragons." The King lowered his head slightly. "The dragons that we were allied with for many decades, betrayed us that day. King Ra shouldn't have told his soldiers to do that."
"Why didn't you guys tell me sooner?" I swallowed. Holding back tears.
"We didn't know how you'd take it..." The Queen looked like she was about to start crying. "Please forgive us Mako. We wanted to tell you sooner..."
"I forgive you. Thank you for telling me the truth." I said quietly. The Queen opened her wings and arms and I jumped over to her to hug her. She held me close like she was my own mother.
"We buried them in Lakebed Temple. Where our dead go. Our tradition is to bury our kin in the Underwater Temple so they feel at home." King Urchin said. I looked at him and nodded.
This was my family now.
