Fifty-Two

I didn't know what to expect as the three of us walk up to Asada's house. Was it going to be massive like Gage's house or tiny like our very own? Was her family around or wealthy? Did she have parents that lived with them considering her story from yesterday? Gage knew the answers but it felt strange asking him these kind of questions about an ex-girlfriend he really didn't even know.

Gage drove us through the neighborhoods, the houses seemed far and few between each other but all tucked away in a mass of trees. But now that we were here my body seemed numb. The last few days had been so strange. Switching from running for my life to heading right towards the beast.

My palms were sweaty as I stand on the front porch. Was this going to be a trap? Was Asada going to come rushing out of the front door with a knife ready to kill me? I felt Gage's arm wrap around me as if he could sense my uneasiness. Sammy looks at me, her eyes shaking back and forth as she searches my face.

"You need to calm your thoughts down, I can hear everything you are thinking remember," I shot her a look as she stares into my soul. I hated having a best friend that could read my thoughts and I knew she hated it too.

"We will have to figure out how to stop that, it's not fun for any of us," Gage teases trying to lighten the mood. Sammy rolls her eyes nodding her head before responding.

"Heck yeah we do, this is driving me crazy," We all turn back to the door.

"Why is Asada taking so long to answer?" I lean up to look at Gage. He was the one who had knocked on the door and in my opinion it sounded pretty loud, but maybe she was in the bathroom and hadn't heard it.

"She always takes this long, just give her a minute," I wanted to crawl out of my own skin as he mentioned that. I was finally able to forget that Gage and Asada had dated for some time in the past. Key word, finally. Something always seemed to bring it back up though. Finally the front door opened, Asada stood behind it, her hair pulled back into a messy ponytail. She ushered for us to come in.

We followed Asada into her house as she led us towards the family room. We had entered what looked like a succulent paradise, tiny green plants in every corner of the room possible. A cactus sits in a white pot standing nearly six feet tall in the corner of the room next to a white couch. Everything looked so perfect I didn't dare touch anything with my clumsy self.

"Sorry for the mess," Asada mumbles as she straightens the navy blue pillow on the couch. I roll my eyes before letting out a scoff.

"Mess? Please, this place looks perfect." I wince at my own anger in my voice. I had always wanted to live in a place like this. She lived in the perfect house.

"Yeah she is insane with this place," Hudson enters the room bringing in round glasses of water. He hands each of us one before taking a seat on the couch. He makes eye contact with Sammy before patting the seat beside him. Was he trying to talk to her with just thoughts? Sammy nods her head before taking the seat next to him.

"What..." I start before Asada cuts me off.

"Okay, today we need to work on your powers. We need to see if we can figure any of these out. I quickly take a seat on the couch shaking my head. Trying to wrap my mind around what just happened with Hudson and Sammy. Was he flirting with her mentally? She seemed to be staring at him a lot. I couldn't help but focus on what she was doing.

"Olyvya, stop." Sammy growls, shocking the whole room. She nods her head and I know she is answering all of my questions. My heart flutters. Sammy has a crush. I could use this to my advantage as long as she doesn't read my mind first.

"Okay, before you two get any weirder, Olyvya let's talk about your powers," Hudson pops in wiping his hands on his lap as if he was hiding something. I nod my head. My face flushing with color as I realize how badly I had embarrassed myself.

"What about them?" I question. Asada smacks her forehead.

"Well, first off let's start with what you are able to do," Hudson speaks softly. My face flushing even more as I realized I had just asked the dumbest question possible.

"Oh yeah, sorry..." I fiddle with the bottom of my shirt trying to put the words together on how to explain my powers. I glance up at the glasses on the coffee table. I held my hand up gently aiming it for the liquid.

The water slowly began to swirl around the glass creating what looked like a tiny tornado. Asada and Hudson lean forward to watch as I pull the water out of the glass. The liquid is now hovering in the air about six inches above the glass. Hudson and Asada seem amazed as they watch the liquid contort to whatever I want it to.

Suddenly the doorbell rings jolting me from my concentration. The water shifts in the air before I lose complete focus. It collapses to the ground, soaking the coffee table in a pool of water. Asada screeches as she lunges forward to wipe up the mess. Water splashing against her skin. My body shakes with fear of the transformation that was about to occur next. Not her mermaid transformation, as her gem was glowing, absorbing the transformation from her skin. I was worried at the backlash I was going to get for spilling water on her expensive furniture.

"Olyvya!" Asada shouts.
