Skeleton in the Tunnel
The next morning, everyone ate honey nut cheerios for breakfast. Except for Shadow. Nobody knew what she was eating, but it looked like a bowl full of dirt. After breakfast, Shadow took the gallon of dirt she packed outside. She invited us out with her but it seemed more like an order. "Come, for I have a shortcut to your victory." Shadow inclined. Madison, Analise, and Ellie got their suits on and their powers warmed up. They walked out the metal door of the beach house and saw a ten-foot pile of sand that definitely wasn't there before. They were all so silent they could hear the rumbling of the sea. Shadow stuck her hand in the gallon of dirt and began using it as a paint on the pile of sand. About fifteen minutes later, there was a map painting on the colossal pile. Shadow started muttering a chant or incantation. Almost instantly, a door appeared in the sand pile.
"After you, my innocent superheroes," Shadow said. Lightning Strike, Iron Wing, and Aqua Surfer stepped inside. The mud door slammed behind us and somehow, Shadow was in front of Lightning Strike. Everyone walked down and Iron Wing stopped. She started rubbing her hands over the dirt wall.
"Look for a light switch, guys. Maybe we can get some light." Lightning Strike found a weird button on the wall and pressed it. The light temporarily blinded everyone for a few seconds. When they all opened their eyes, they couldn't believe what was in front of them. Ellie's greatest fear, blood, was splattered all over a living skeleton. She had black hair, a bone body, and blood dripping everywhere. Ellie screamed so loud, dirt fell from the ceiling.
"Hello... Skullette." Shadow said with a voice that sounded like it came from the bottom of a very, very dark, murky lake. Anyways, Ellie was covering her eyes and wept in fear. Then time seemed like it stopped once again, and Shadow's voice whispered into Ellie's ear, "Use the key." Time started again. Lightning Strike and Iron Wing were doing all they could. They were zapping her with lightning and pushing gigantic gusts of wind at her, but nothing worked. Ellie took out the key and in its reflection, she saw a beautiful girl with radiant eyes and silky black hair. Ellie threw the key as hard as she could and...... Bullseye! She sunk the key right in the girl's ribcage. Skullette screamed as her real body grew over her. Soon she grew into a beautiful fifteen-year-old girl with long black hair and ruby red lips.
It was the girl in the reflection.
"Thank you. Now I may return to my own time," said Skullette with a voice that was calm, soft, and almost like small waves gently hitting the seashore. She disappeared in a golden glow that faded away as if it were blown away by the soft wings of a giant butterfly. Ellie turned around and hugged Madison and Analise, who were very worn-out from using so much of their power. "Guys, you tried so hard! You were amazing out there!" Ellie complimented.
"You too." Analise and Madison said in unison. Everyone chuckled. But everyone turned around to hear a thud on the dirt floor. A bone hammer, that was hardened into stone and looked as hard as iron, rolled toward Ellie and she picked it up.
"Woah," Madison commented. "Is that another reward like the golden key?"
Analise answered with a hearty, "Yes." Ellie attached it to her belt. Analise and Madison started blabbering about the hammer, when Ellie yelled, "Stop!! I have a better topic than a bone hammer. Where do my powers come from?" Lightning Strike looked at Iron Wing.
