Chapter 30: Bow before me

Note: So...how did you like the feels chapter? :D

Deamon's POV

"Can you repeat that?" Mexxy grins, leaning forward in the huge golden thrown. Ridgedog used to sit on that. Back in the good days when he ruled. "You heard me" I hiss at him, tears still flowing down my cheeks. Featherblade bends down to comfort me, Kupo wrapping her arms around me. Elevn just sits down in a chair, looking troubled. Syncrasis stays quiet, looking away from my angry glare towards the window which looks upon the stretch of clouds and the floating Voxeltopia City below.

"The great and powerful Ridgedog," he says sarcastically before grinning, "has been killed. Maybe I will go pay a visit to Tia, see how she is doing..." "Bring him back" I snarl, stumbling to my feet and pointing a trembling hand at him. "Bring him back! I know you can!" He regards me calmly, crossing his legs impatiently. "I can but I don't want to. I prefer him dead, to be honest." he smirks at me. "I'm your god damn general! I've asked for NOTHING in return for my service to you, why can't you just bring him back for me?" I cry, leaning on Featherblade for support. My legs felt like jelly.

"I haven't got a problem with you, Deamon. If it was just you, then I would consider it. But that girl...Tia...bring her to me. I wish to speak with her." he orders, a hint of amusement in his foggy green eyes. Nodding numbly, I quickly jet through the wall and down towards Ridge's mansion. Maybe, just maybe, we could convince him to bring him back.

I slowly phase through the window, wincing at the sound of Tia's sobbing. I'm in Ridge's bedroom, the large king size bed spotless-he hadn't slept in it for a while. Pausing, I inhale. I could still smell the lingering smell of the cologne he always put on, and I almost tear up again. But determination makes me press on. If there was just a glimmer of a chance that I could save him, even if it meant dealing with the dangerous Mexxy, then I would do it.

Walking into Tia's bedroom, I catch sight of her. She's sat on the bed next to him, his limp, lifeless body. She's holding his hand close to her cheek, tears still dripping down her face. She doesn't seem to register my presence, just keeps watching him. Like he is going to wake up if she keeps staring at him. For a moment, I go behind her, watching his face myself. He looked so peaceful, like he was sleeping and there was a small smile still left on his face from when Tia was holding him.

I lean over and pat him awkwardly. "Hello friend." I whisper. Tears prick the tips of my eyes but I blink them furiously away. "Mexxy says he might bring him back. You need to take him and yourself to Voxeltopia." I tell Tia. She nods slightly. She leans in to hug him close. The look in her eyes makes the tears come back. Just watching him lying on the bed, dead, reduces me to tears. Holding back a sob, I lean forward to hug him too. My best friend. We've been best friends for hundreds of years. Even in his insane moments, I stuck by him. And now, just as he had becoming a new person, it had been viciously taken away. Tia begins to cry too, touching his cheek. Pulling her into my arms, I begin to cry.

Then she turns to me.

"Deamon. I'm pregnant" she whispers.

That was when I completely break down.

He came so close. So close to becoming a father. And now he never could.

"Don't give up." I whisper after half an hour of just crying with her. She wipes her eyes and nods, taking him up in her arms. She takes him in her arms gently, trying not to disturb him. He hangs limply in her arms so I cradle his head as she holds the other end. Taking off together, holding him tightly, we ascend slowly, still sniffing a little. I lead the way, until the towering Voxel castle comes into view.

Taking her through the winding corridors, we eventually reach the big double doors. We look at each other with pain in our eyes, before the doors open and we walk forward.

Tia's POV

I felt like my whole body was just numb. I couldn't feel anything other than the never ending sadness and guilt. I don't see anything else, just him. I keep my head down, just watching his perfect face, so still and perfect, that little crooked smile still on his face. There was no way Mexxy was going to bring him back. He was just here to taunt us. And it would work. I would break down and cry and then leave with the still dead Ridge. I didn't look up. I didn't want to see Mexxy's smug grin.

"Well, well, well!" Mexxy's voice booms. I can almost hear the laughter in his voice. "What do we have here?" I can hear the clatter of footsteps and his shadow passes over us. I look up bitterly and his green reptile eyes are focused on the wound on Ridgedog's chest, grinning like a happy child on Christmas day.

I hadn't known during the battle that I was pregnant. It was when I went into the bathroom to get some tissues that I spotted the pregnancy test Ridgedog had bought in advance when I said we would have a family some day. I had had an odd feeling that I should check, just in case. So I did. And it came away positive. I was only a few days pregnant too. I didn't even get the chance to tell him.

At least he had a child that he could see grow up, even if he was in heaven.

Before I came here, I made a silent vow to kill Syncrasis. So when Mexxy killed me, at least I could join Ridge. But I had a baby to take care of now.

"Bow before me." Mexxy smiles over at me. Sniffing, I let Deamon hold Ridge as I bow. Now wasn't the time to be defiant. "Oh, so NOW you are being polite?" he snickers. I continue to bow waiting for the next command, my eyes still on Ridgedog's limp figure. "Rise, Tia. Now, what can I be doing for you?" he asks, walking over to me so he stands in front of me. I know he was waiting for me to snap at me. But rather than snap, I just rise to my feet, not looking him in the eye. "Bring him back to life." I say quietly, my voice hoarse and painful from hours of crying.

"Why should I?" he asks, amused somehow, walking back to his thrown. "Please" I whisper. He turns back to me, slumping on the throne. "Give me one good reason why I should." Taking a deep breath, I just come out and say it. "I'm pregnant." Syncrasis snaps her face to me, eyes widening. I can hear hushed whispers behind me until Mexxy hushes them. "Please. He's never had the chance to have a child. Please, I want to give him a family." Tears are falling down my already tear stained cheeks and I look into his green eyes, pleading him just by looking at him. "Please" I whisper.

"Well that IS a pickle indeed. Though it isn't enough. Give me something else." he smirks, but for some reason looks a little troubled. Maybe I may have just touched his heart. "How about I point out a traiter in this room?" Deamon suddenly spits angrily. I take hold of Ridgedog, holding him tightly, nuzzling his cold neck with my nose, eyes on Deamon.

"Hm. That might work I suppose...why, who is this traiter you speak of?" Mexxy murmurs, his eyes intrigued. Syncrasis seems to be hyperventilating, breathing heavily, shaking her head slightly at Deamon. What had she done? Deamon raises his hand to Syncrasis, who is shaking hard. Mexxy frowns uncertainly, looking over at his girlfriend. "Why, what has my princess done?" he asks. I shudder at the word princess.

Deamon steps forward, holding out his arm. Before Mexxy takes it, he says bitterly, "She's been having an affair with Neutron Rocks." he says. Mexxy's face pales and Deamon uses his mysterious power to transfer the evidence into his mind. Meanwhile, Syncrasis is running from her post. My eyes follow her warily. The guards try and grab her, but she's too quick. Mexxy breaks from the thoughts, anger blazing in his eyes, his face pale. He glares at the running figure who is almost at the doors.

Holding out my hand, power flows through me. She comes to a halt and the guards finally grab her. "Take her to the dungeons. Neutron, too." Mexxy barks behind me. The guards lead the kicking and screaming witch away and I smile smugly a little. "I heard her talking to Neutron when they were in the bedroom. She only wanted the crown all along. That's why she went out with you and with Ridge before you. She panicked when she got pregnant from Ridge because she knew if she had a baby boy, they would go to the thrown before her. She knew it was an immortal child, but that didn't bother her. She only felt OK with you because she knew you wouldn't get her pregnant." Deamon tells him, looking triumphantly at me.

A little shining sparkle of hope ignites within me. Was this it? Was Mexxy going to reward us by restoring Ridgedog's life? Mexxy looks at Ridgedog doubtfully. I could almost hear the clicking and whirring of his thoughts. Couldn't he see that he had also been played the fool, just like Ridge had, and Ridge had taken it worse? "Mexxy." I say quietly and his reptile eyes move to me. "How would you feel if she got pregnant? And she killed the baby? Over and over again? Ridge got played the fool, just like you did. And he was the one who got punished for it. Can't you just restore his life so he can finally have the family he deserves? You have the crown now. He just wants a family." I say quietly, glancing down at him in my arms.

He sighs, getting to his feet and striding over to me. I look up at him hopefully.

"I suppose I can." he sighs. Excitement and happiness bubble up, making a small smile appear on my face.

He reaches down, touching the wound. The bullet leaps out into his hand, making me jump. He studies the bullet close for a moment before chucking it on the floor, and stretching his palm across the wound. His hands gleam and sweat drips off his forehead as it heals. The wound patches itself up and I watch intently, tension bubbling up. I keep my eye on his eyes, waiting for them to flicker open.

His body continues to glow, small glittering sparkles flying into his body as the wound heals. I'm aware of Deamon leaning over, eyes full of hope and eagerly waiting the return of his best friend. Mexxy grunts with the effort, wiping his forehead, before reaching his other hand over and touching the place above his heart on his chest. He does it again. And again.

And then Ridgedog's chest beats on its own.

A wide grin appears on my face as Ridgedog suddenly shifts, groaning a little. His eyelids flicker. The wound was completely healed now, and Mexxy backs away, panting a little bit.

And then Ridgedog opens his beautiful blue eyes and meets mine.

"RIDGE!" I yell, grabbing him tightly and yanking him into my arms. He laughs weakly. That amazing, beautiful laugh was once again echoing in my ears. "Careful, he's not fully healed yet, he'll be a bit achy for a bit." Mexxy warns, stumbling away. "Oh Ridge, you're alive!" I cry, pulling away to see his eyes, now full of life like they were supposed to be. "W-what..." he groans, wincing as I touch the spot where the bullet entered. "Sorry" I say quickly, yanking my hand away, but I reach up, attacking his lips with my own. He strokes my hair softly, smiling against my mouth.

When I pull away, he is grinning again, his eyes sparkling. And then Deamon is pulling him away from me, grabbing his best friend tightly by the arm, spinning him round. "If you die again, I'll kill you!" he growls, hugging him. Ridge laughs, hugging him briefly, before stretching his hand out. I take it, holding it to my face. My Ridgedog was back.

Stumbling up to the slightly disturbed Mexxy, I give him a brief hug. He raises his eyebrows. "Thank you" I whisper, smiling at him, before turning and running to jump up into Ridgedog's arms. He tripped backwards a bit from the force, staggering until he fell down again, laughing as he hugs me fiercely. I was crying again, burying my face into his neck. He was alive, and we were together. Not just to the end, but forever.

After Ridgedog thanks Mexxy warmly and shakes his hand (which he pulls his face at as soon as we leave), we fly down together, laughing and chasing each other in the sky. Deamon joins in, about to tackle me when he stops, glancing down at my stomach and then he grins. I grin back and nod. "Ridge?" I yell over the roar of the wind as we fly into his mansion. "Yeah?" he asks. "I didn't know until about two hours ago, but I'm pregnant!" I grin.

Note: YAAAAAAAAAAAAY! :D The book is STILL NOT OVER! There's still some things that need to be sorted out...for instance...what will happen to Sky? What will Jerome's reaction be when he learns Mitch and Liam are going out? And how will Ridgedog react to the news?
