Chapter 28: The battle begins

HERE WE GOOO :D TIME FOR THE BIG BATTLE THAT THIS WHOLE FAN FICTION HAS BEEN LEADING UP TO! Oh god, so excited I'm grinning whilst typing this! Who KNOWS what will happen? ;) Without further ado, let us begin! This maybe a short chapter, but it's got a lot in it!

Tia's POV

The soldiers are unaware of our presence so far, and so we wait until Sky appears. Soon enough, he makes his way through the trees, flanked by an uneasy pair of Mitch and Liam. The rest of Team Crafted appear, swords drawn and no mercy shown on their blank, robot-like faces. What was wrong with them? Didn't they have family and friends they care about going into battle?

Ridgedog tugs me forward and together, the Yogscast step out onto the battlefield, feet silent in the snow, like a cat about to pounce on its prey. Sky stiffens and snarls at Liam who stares at him blankly before his eyes turn to me. Pleading, sorry eyes. My hand is still on Ridgedog's, and I'm squeezing the life out of it without meaning to and I gently let go, keeping them brushing against each other. Behind Sky, I spot Mitch and Liam hold hands gently, stretching out to meet the other.

For a while, there is just awkward silence as we quietly face off. The tension of the moment has made my body stiffen like cardboard, and the loud thumping of my heart is so loud I'm almost certain Ridgedog can hear it. Then, very quickly, Sky fires a different pistol, not the Golden Desert Eagle I feared, into the air and bombs go off.

Duncan is quick to activate the forcefield, the bombs landing on them and exploding with no contact from us. "Fire them!" Lewis says to Duncan and he explodes about 15 different bombs, most of them I have no name for, onto the enemy lines. Their soldiers are already running towards us, and the bombs explode on them, killing most of them in seconds.

And then we begin to run forward, a slow jog at first which turns into a determined sprint. Ridgedog turns invisible, but I don't. I don't have time before I draw out my sword and the enemy clashes with it in a hiss of diamond versus diamond. The person I face off against is Mitch, which worried me a little-I had my supernatural strength but he was a professional at this. He hesitates for a moment, before beginning to duel with me, our blades attacking each other rapidly at a pace I can barely keep up with.

He hits my wrist hard and I yelp, dropping my sword. I back away quickly. He looks behind him warily at Sky, who is busy ordering people what to do. Mitch gestures at my sword quickly, and I nod my thanks, picking it up and the duel starts again. A bomb goes off close to us, making my ears go deaf, and Mitch's too by the way he covers his ears. We are washed away in the sea of soldiers, me killing a few who get in my way as I frantically look for Ridgedog.

As I look around, my stomach lurches. A sickening feeling of dejavu clouds my thoughts for a moment. This almost seemed familiar...(go read the introduction if you don't remember this)

Blood covered every surface of the area-the lush green trees, every pure white daisy, every sharp blade of grass-it was all covered in the sticky red liquid that still oozed out of dying bodies on the floor. The fighting was yet to end. The stench of death and distraught clung to the air, the howls of despair still lingered in my ears. Lives shattered, loved ones lost and all traces of sanity had been stolen. Insanity and the lust for revenge locked up the human in them, threw away the key and released the monster they hid from the world.

I couldn't stop this, even if i tried. Even though i made this happen.

I made this happen. This was like the survival games all over again, only the weapons were more advanced and I was a player along with the master himself. This wasn't right. I had to end this. But how?

I spot Duncan being attacked by ten soldiers, and he was desperately trying to fend them off. I fly towards him, slamming myself into them, knocking them down like dominos. I quickly get to my feet slaughtering them without mercy. "Thanks" he pants, firing bombs rapidly into the sea of swarming soldiers who are hacking away at people. I couldn't see anyone else from the Yogscast until Lewis forces himself away from the middle, and about 50 soldiers blow up, and I hear Simon laughing gleefully as his tnt cannon sets off rows of tnt. It is then I spot them, the Yogscast, still fighting bravely on.

Rythian's magic and potions help a great deal. Many of the soldiers are dying of poison, nausea making them trip and stagger and be taken down like a foot on an ant. I spot Liam, trying to fight Hannah, but both are being deliberately slow-we had told the Yogscast not to attack Liam or Mitch. "Where's Ridge?" I shout over the screams and metal screeches. "No idea!" Duncan roars back. "I'm going to pull back everyone, I want you to activate the antimatter bomb!" I shout and he nods.

Thrusting myself into the air, I tug the Yogscast away, counting everyone to make sure I have everyone. When I do, I nod at Duncan. He sets up the forcefield, and then a sudden explosion makes everything go white.

When I open my eyes, the soldiers are all mostly dead, some of them being picked off by arrows from our side. The rest of Team Crafted are all alive, shaken and bruised but alive. I can see Liam, shaking horribly, a large cut on his arm. Ridgedog appears in front of Sky, and he aims his golden gun at him, and Ridgedog disappears as he is about to fire.

When I catch Liam's eye, I mouth, "We had a deal!" He nods and slowly goes up behind Sky, trembling a little. Ridgedog is floating around Sky laughing as he misses shot after shot until he is down to two bullets left. Sky curses and sets the gun down. Liam sees his chance and grabs it.

Liam's POV

Just as my hand is about to close around the gun, Sky turns at that exact moment and pulls it away. By now, the Yogscast are fighting Team Crafted directly now, no more soldiers to take care of. "Hah! I knew you two were on their side!" Sky yells. Ridgedog has disappeared again, and I can't see Tia anymore.

Then Sky levels the gun towards me.

Mitch goes in front of me, glaring heavily at Sky who stares at him, gobsmacked. "You are willing to sacrifice your life for your apprentice?" he asks and Mitch nods angrily. "I don't know what's happened to you but you've turned into a mad man. Stop this fighting, and let's just leave them in peace!" Mitch says angrily, and I nod my agreement behind him. The fighting has stopped now as everyone just watches the show, grateful that there was something other to do than fight and kill.

"Fine. I'll just kill you then." Sky says after a moment of thinking.

"Then you are going to have to go through me" a voice says.

Mitch turns, his eyes wide and his hand trembling. A figure walks through the forest into the clearing, his furry body and little white teeth are impossible to not recognize. He is carrying Betty, and it seems like it was made to fit his paws.

Jerome.

"J-Jerome!" Mitch gasps, and Jerome grins widely at his partner before they run forward, hugging each other, both of them beginning to cry. "Oh god, is it really you?" Mitch whispers, "Or am I just dead?" "Don't be stupid, biggums, no one could craft a face this perfect." Jerome grins, tapping his furry cheeks. Mitch begins to break down, pushing his face into his fur, noiseless sobs racking his body as Jerome tries to comfort him, smiling at me. I smile back. Mitch was happy. He'd found his partner again.

Then Sky tilts the gun to Mitch's direction. Jerome tries to put himself in front of the gun's path but it's too late.

Boom.
