Chapter 15: Desperation
Note: The difference between the Yogcast survival games and the Crafted games is that the Yogscast games hurt more. In the Team Crafted ones they don't actually hurt when you hit them. Sounds a bit complicated. But to put it simply, the Crafted games are different! And yes, I did use some of the lyrics from Bajan's new song, Hunger Games.
Mitch's POV
Lounging on my sofa, I kick up my feet. The house was strangely quiet. Liam had always been quiet, but at least I knew he was there. Now the air was still, and eerily empty. I was bored too. Usually, I would just go visit Jerome or go talk to Liam for a bit. But I had visited Jerome for hours before and Liam was away. Who knows what could happen to him out there? I sigh-I needed to stop worrying about him. He was going to be fine. But he was so close to the boundary line...
A knock at the door lures me out of my thoughts. Heaving myself off the comfy fabric of the sofa, I trudge to the door. Opening it, a grinning Sky greets me. "Hey Mitch! We're doing another survival games, if you want to do one. You look kinda bored anyway." Looking away, I consider it. It had been years since I had done a survival games. The last time was with Jerome. Maybe I should start doing it again, like a hobby...it would give me something to do at least. "When do they start?" I grunt, and his grin widens. "Right now!" Sighing, I scowl as I follow him outside. He begins to sprint, yelling at me to run or we will be late. Stretching, I begin to sprint after him.
We get to the arena, packed full of players from Team Crafted. Some had even come from outside Team Crafted to play, like Antvenom, and CaptainSparklez. "And finally, the last pair! His Royal Highness Sky and the master pvper Bajan Canadian returns after three years of no survival games!" I enter the arena, shielding away from the sunlight. The crowd cheering and wooping for us is deafening and a small smile finds its way onto my lips as I take my place on an empty quartz podium.
The crowd counts down. "Good to see you back Bajan!" "Nice to see you Mitch!" I'm greeted by everyone around me, grins and nods surrounding me. I nod back politely, and take off the podium a the countdown finishes and the cannons sound. My feet thud across the ground, adrenaline pumping. This was what I was born to do. I would win for Jerome. Determination fills me up and a broad grin rises up as I manage to get an Iron chestplate, and a wooden sword with an apple.
Sprinting away, I pull the chesplate on and sprint into the forest. The thudding of feet behind me makes me speed up. "Mitch, wait bro! I'm on your team!" Sky calls after me. I slow down a little bit, adrenaline still pulsing as I glance around quickly to see if there's anyone around. "I'm not teaming!" I laugh. He blinks at me. "Aw come on!" "You should of learnt how to play!" I grin, slamming my sword into his arm. He grins and backs away. "You should of seen my last hunger games" I chuckle before chasing after him.
(Sorry for the short POV but I want to get this bit out of the way)
Deamon's POV
Teleporting instantly from the frowning Tia and chuckling lightly to myself, I end up in the grassy plains at the bottom of the hill where Ridgedog's towering mansion stood proudly. I pause to check my surroundings-I hadn't bothered with my invisibility. Why should I? The mortal cannot do anything to hurt me. Craning my neck up, I take off into the air, running my hand through my short brown hair, and floating up and phasing through a window. I know all too well this was Tia's bedroom, but what surprised me was who was in it.
Ridgedog was stretched out on her bed, his face in her pillow, lying on his stomach. His hair was messier than before, and he was clutching her cape like he was in Tia's thoughts. "Hello friend" I greet him, peering round the shadowy room. He lifts his head up wearily, his eyes tired. "Not in the mood, Deamon," he replies before slumping his head back onto the pillow. Wandering round the room, I study Tia's desk, loaded with pictures of intricate traps of torture, no doubt the work Ridge set her to do. There was a small teddy bear sat on one corner of the desk, the one that I gave her. I told her it had soothing powers embedded in it, as it was made for kids when they went on a tantrum, but I knew she was going to be under a lot of stress working for Ridgedog.
"Where's your little apprentice?" I ask innocently, tracing my hand over a redstone error in one of her traps. Ridgedog had altered it with his sharp black ink pen, circling it and scribbling a note under it of the correct number of repeaters needed. I tilt my head waiting for an answer. "She left" was all he said. His voice was muffled in the pillows. "Why are you so upset about it? You have hardly even looked at her twice before." I tease. I knew very well he had developed just a few feelings on his little apprentice. But that was the reason he could never find anyone to be with. His anger and insanity stopped him from being who he used to be. He used to be so fun, a delight to everyone. Of course, that was when he was king of the VoxelBox. Ever since Mexxy kicked him off and the incident with his ex girlfriend, he had turned into a broken mess of the man he used to be.
If he hadn't been insane or angry all the time, he would probably have made a move on her by now.
"Go away" was all he said. Remembering the incident with his ex, I stiffen at the memory, so clearly embedded in my mind. You see, when two demigods have a baby, the baby is considered an evil child, one that could wield too much power. A tantrum could destroy the world. They were the ones who were truly immortal, ones that could not be killed. However, when they were in a mother's stomach, they could be killed. All immortal children were outlawed. Anyone who was found pregnant with one would have the baby ripped from their womb and slaughtered. There was no way to prevent demigods from getting pregnant. And even the king couldn't change the law.
Ridgedog had never really loved his girlfriend, and she hadn't loved him. It was just a bit of fun, when they were younger demigods, a bit like teenage mortals. Everyone did it when they were at a young age. When she got pregnant, he was overjoyed and was determined to keep it a secret. But he was the king and she was his girlfriend. There was no way they could keep it private. Ridgedog came home one day, me in tow as we were best friends back then. He had opened the door, and she had been on the sofa, no lump on her 6 month stomach. He had ran to her, and she had looked at him blankly and said, "They found the baby." With no heart and no remorse. She didn't even care. Ridgedog had always wanted to be a father. Someone with a family.
He got her pregnant 7 times. And each time the baby was killed, it was like someone was killing his sanity.
He became insane. He flew down to the mortal realm and took it all out on them. Thus, the survival games were born. He hated everyone who was in a family or a relationship, and since the Yogscast was basically just a massive family, there he went. But he spent so much time down on mortal land, he didn't notice when Mexxy, his ex partner, led a revolution and kicked him off the thrown, taking over the VoxelBox and banishing him to the mortal realm.
So him having feelings for his young apprentice had kind of been a shining light of hope for me. Maybe she could be the one who stopped him from being insane? But she was only mortal, and even when she was turned into a quart god, her hatred of all the things he had done to her had bubbled out of control and she had snapped. But that was exactly what he needed. For someone to stand up to him and knock some sense into him. Maybe now he would realize what he had been doing to everyone.
"Now that you mention it, I do recall meeting her just moments ago..." I continue, watching in amusement as his head snaps up. He stumbles out of bed, lurching towards me. "Where is she?" he snarls. I hold out my hand to him, and he grabs my arm roughly, almost yanking my thoughts out of my head. I replay everything Tia had sent me, excluding ones that could reveal her location. When he saw the cave one, how close he had been, he yelled in anger, almost screaming, grabbing her desk and throwing it over in rage. I grab hold of his arms, containing him as he tries to hit out at me. "Ridgedog, calm the hell down" I hiss in his ear. He eventually stops and I throw him onto the bed, taking a step back in case he attacks me.
I turn round to fix Tia's desk. When I turn round, Ridgedog has disappeared. Sighing, and snarling a little, I teleport quickly to Tia. Her head snaps round, registering my presence immediately. I'm relieved to see she was far from her original position. "Go! He's coming after you, you have to hurry. I'll distract him" I hiss, glancing at the boy who I think is called Liam. She nods, thanks me, grabs hold of Liam's arm and sprints away. Turning round, I wait. It was barely 10 seconds later that Ridgedog zooms past me, and I grab hold of him, swinging him round into a tree. He yells at me, slamming his fist into my face. I recoil back, stunned. I'm his best friend...the only best friend he has. Was he really going to waste it? I stare into his insane eyes. He was beyond help, I realize. There was nothing no one could do to help him. I couldn't distract him forever-Tia was as good as dead.
Letting him go, he flies off, but in the opposite direction. Turning round suddenly, he looks awkwardly at me. "Sorry" he says flatly before flying off. I blink at him. Then in the direction of where Tia was running. Then back at him. Could Tia really be enough to quell the rage inside him? Or was it burning out of control? Shaking my head and sighing, I float up into the clouds, towards the immortal's realm-Voxeltopia.
