Twenty-Seven
Allison's POV:
"Scotty, we won! Holy shit, I didn't—I mean, we didn't die!" Stiles cheered as he pumped his fist in the air but I quickly rush to Olivia's side. "Scott did you see--oh wait you didn't because your eyes are...you know, don't worry we'll tell you later."
I pull Olivia's head into my lap, seeing that her eyes were closed until my eyes trail to the arrow on her chest that seeped out blood. "Liv..." I rasp and carefully pull the arrow out of her chest.
I press my fingers against the side of her neck where her pulse is supposed to be but my heart sinks in discomfort. Nothing.
I hear running footsteps from behind and I briefly turn, seeing Cora kneel beside me in concern with Isaac behind her as the rest of our friends check in with Scott since he sat down on the steps. "Is she...?" Cora sadly trailed and I reluctantly nodded.
"But she's a phoenix, she's going to come back." Isaac stated, slowly shaking his head in disbelief. "Any second now she's going to combust into flames and burst out of the stone. She's going to be fine."
"Isaac--"
"She's going to wake up a-and I'm going to tell her all about Paris and how I already have a place set up--"
"Isaac." Cora cut him off from his sentence by standing up from her spot to place her hands on his shoulders. "She's gone."
Isaac's expression faltered at her words but he stays quiet as he plops down on one of the chairs, refusing to look at anyone else but the scattered books in front of him.
I cup the side of her face and press my head against hers, allowing my tears to finally trickle down my cheeks. "Come back to me."
"Allison, do you have any of Olivia's vials on you?" Stiles asked, causing me to pull away from Olivia.
I shake my head. "I used them all to get Isaac, Cora, Ethan, and Jackson's strength back. Why?"
"Scott's eyes aren't healing." Lydia worriedly answered.
"How long has he been like this?" Derek questioned.
Stiles shrugged. "Before Allison and I arrived they were already clawed out."
"But shouldn't he be able to heal on his own?" Cora asked, taking note of the grim expression on Scott.
The library doors swing open and a pair of footsteps came rushing in which causes me to glance over, seeing as Malia rushed in with worry.
"Scott?" Stiles quickly stands up, allowing Malia to replace his spot to kneel beside him on the main staircase. "He's not healing? Scott, what happened to your eyes?" She worriedly asked, seeing the black holes where his eyes used to be, dried blood stains dripping down his cheeks like tears.
"I had to. I'm sorry." Scott rasped.
"Scott, you have to heal." Derek warned. "If your eyes stay like this much longer, the damage is gonna be permanent."
"Come on, Scott." I encourage, watching as Malia reassuringly squeezed his shoulder. "You can do it."
"Concentrate, Scott." Stiles pleaded.
"I'm trying..." He panted. "It's not working. I can't focus. Olivia's gone and I couldn't--"
"Hey! Hey, look at me! Yes, you can!" Malia cradled his face in her hands. "Just concentrate!"
"I can't-I can't-I can't do it." Scott's breath quickened in a panic.
"Yes, you can. Scott, please," Malia's voice shook. "just look at me."
I reach to interlace my hand with Olivia's for comfort, my heart clenching at the sight of Malia's saddened expression.
Even if we defeated the Anuk-ite, why does this still feel like a loss?
"Malia," Lydia broke the silence, causing everyone's gaze to fall on her as she stood beside Stiles. "kiss him."
Malia's brows furrow in disbelief, keeping Scott's face in her hands. "What?"
"Kiss him." She impatiently emphasized.
The werecoyote hesitates for a moment until she turned back to Scott to examine his injuries before leaning forward and pressing her lips to his. His left hand slowly reached to place it over where her hand held his jaw and they carefully pull away from each other.
Suddenly, flickers of red light form inside his sockets until his glazed eyes formed, revealing his normal brown ones filled with tears.
Almost everyone let out sighs of relief as the two supernaturals smiled at one another in adoration before reconnecting their lips once more.
Olivia's hand squeezes in my grip and I jump at the sudden action, seeing as her eyes tiredly flutter open. "Hey, you." She whispered, reaching up to my face to wipe away some of the dust from the mountain ash. "What's with the long face?"
"Oh my god." I shakily breathe out, feeling my heart practically soar out of my chest. "The arrow—I-I thought it was supposed to—"
"I told you a premonition wouldn't stop me." She lightly chuckled before leaning in to kiss me.
Several gasps from our friends behind us cause me to pull away and turn to see Scott's relief-filled expression as Malia helped him up to stand. "Olivia."
"Did you have a nice nap?" Derek sarcastically asked, failing to fight the smile that appeared on his face.
"Saw a couple of familiar faces." She casually shrugged. "But I still feel like I got hit by a bus."
"You're telling me. I got turned to stone!" Isaac exclaimed before Cora crouched down to our level and punched her shoulder.
"Thanks for the heart attack." She remarked, causing Olivia to roll her eyes.
"First of all ouch," She groaned. "and second, can we please get the hell out of here because I think I inhaled a ton of mountain ash when I hit the ground."
I playfully roll my eyes and pulled her up to her feet. "You're so annoying." I mutter before embracing her into a hug. "but I'm so glad you're okay."
Third Person's POV:
"So...what happened after?"
Phoebe exhaled a puff of air with an amused look at the question. "Monroe and the rest of her hunters ran that night."
Monroe anxiously glanced behind her as she sprinted down the high school hallways before bursting through the double doors and off into the night.
"Gerard put guns in people's hands, but a lot less than they thought were willing to use them."
"Really?"
Parrish, Stilinski, Thomas, and Agent McCall watch from the side of the Argent armory, overseeing the police department's deputies seizing all of the firearms into the containers and rolling them out of the room.
"You could say that dad was practically hovering and giving a hard time to the deputies that threw Parrish into the chamber at Eichen House."
Never wanting to have the same problem occur again, Thomas held a clipboard in his hands and marked down each weapon on his list to make sure none of them go missing.
"I want each type of handgun, rifle, etcetera in separate containers!" He sternly ordered the deputy walking past him who simply nodded in response.
"But what about the people?"
"More people know our secret now," Phoebe smiled. "but more of them are on our side."
Phoebe happily scribbled something across the chalkboard to the group of students before clicking the bell that rested on the desk to show her completion of the problem on the board.
Grant, the previous leader of the study group, rolled his eyes in annoyance while the rest of the team clapped with proud smiles on their faces, some of them giving high-fives to Phoebe.
"After some convincing and a few apologies from my teammates, they let me back in the team! Surprisingly enough, Liam and Nolan decided to become co-captains for lacrosse!"
"Co-captains?" Coach Finstock asked in disbelief as he incredulously looked back and forth between the two boys in the locker room. "You wanna be co-captains now?
"We've, uh..." Nolan smiled, looking over to Liam who simply shrugged. "gotten past our differences."
"That doesn't sound very competitive!" Coach scoffed before looking over to Liam. "Who taught you that crap?"
"You did. Because you're a great coach." Liam confidently stated, patting the older man's arm before the two boys exit the room with their lacrosse sticks in their hands.
"Seriously? The same Liam you were telling me about who wanted to choke out Nolan?" She snorted. "And let me guess, Coach Finstock was okay with this?"
Phoebe nodded with a chuckle. "Legend has it that a tear left Coach Finstock's eye that afternoon."
Once Coach Finstock sees that they left, a smile appears on his face with a resolute nod. "You're right. I am a great coach."
"But other than that, people weren't afraid of us anymore. Now we have...allies who used to be enemies." Phoebe paused in remembrance of when the Raeken boy helped absorbed her pain so she could heal herself. "We have protectors."
Late at night in the woods, Peter turns around with his eyes shining a bright blue, preparing to defend his territory from the unknown being stepping into Beacon Hills.
"We have friends willing to fight for us. Some where they don't even have to be supernatural."
In another part of town, Deaton is showing Mason and Corey something in the Bestiary with their expressions filled with wonder.
"While it might not be in Beacon Hills, there are still others out in the world that are willing to do anything to bring them to safety. It's what I admire most about the people Olivia has met."
In Paris, Isaac added another piece of a complicated lock to the sealed chest that contained the Nogitsune fly with a smug look before someone placed down a cup of tea in front of him.
Cora had a brow raised at his expression before the two raise their cups and clink them against each other, taking a sip soon after.
"Even the ones she was never a big fan of."
In London, Jackson was dressed in a suit, looking out at the city just as Ethan comes up from behind him and wraps his arms around his shoulders before nuzzling his face into his neck.
"But while Olivia and I don't have our powers anymore, I've been looking for others...others that unfortunately have been chased away by Monroe's army." Phoebe pauses for a moment before she shook her head with a smile. "So far, I'd say it's been okay. Everything was going well for the pack and for once in a long long time...I feel grateful. Grateful for the memories I made and grateful for feeling a part of a family I wanted with my parents."
A month before, Phoebe, still dressed in her graduation cap and gown, quickly pulls Olivia into a tight hug as the rest of their loved ones place the last of Allison's and Olivia's things in their cars outside of the Argent complex.
"I'm going to miss you." Phoebe whispered in her half-sister's ear, unable to fight the tears from trickling down. "Who else am I supposed to bug about my issues?"
"Oh no, what am I going to do?" Olivia chuckled before pulling away from the embrace. "But seriously, don't forget that no matter where we are or what it is, I'm always a text away if you ever need me."
"That goes for both of us." Allison emphasized from behind, making sure to wrap her arm around Olivia's waist. "We'll take the first flight out or you guys are more than welcomed to stay with us in Los Angeles."
"Not me, I'll be enjoying my vacation in Paris!" Malia scoffed, leaning her head against Scott's shoulder as the duo stood next to Stiles' parked Jeep. "So don't expect a phone call for the next couple of years since I'll be too busy traveling the world."
"What she means, is that the same goes for us." Mason chimes in with a nervous laugh. "Just a call away."
"No, I didn't."
"I mean, I might have to rearrange my schedule and then talk to a couple of the lead officers for the FBI to see if I could take a week or two off—" Stiles rambled, earning a harsh nudge from Lydia which caused him to grunt. "But yeah! You know me, I always find a way to sneak off to help my best friends."
"Smooth one." Liam snorted, earning a smack from Stiles which causes him to flinch back. "Ow!"
"Pretty sure that after what we all dealt with," Lydia took a step forward with a giggle, wrapping her arms around Olivia and Allison into a hug. "we're all way past best friends at this point."
"A pack." Scott emphasized with a smile as he looked to meet each of his friends' faces. "A family."
"That's really sweet." She spoke up, breaking Phoebe out of her thoughts of the memory. "But I know you. How are you feeling?"
Phoebe nervously picked at her fingers, knowing that the girl had a point. "Honestly? Still a bit scared."
"Of...?"
"The future. As I said, everything may be good now but what about the future?" Phoebe softly asked as she held her hand out, expecting to see the dim light but nothing appeared. "While I'm glad that I don't have to worry about bursting into flames in the middle of a class, I had mixed feelings when they told me that I had a choice of whether or not I wanted to keep them. It was nerve-wracking at first trying to become the next one and then eventually I grew to like it but then the next thing I knew...it felt like a part of me was gone."
"Well, think of it this way. The Phoenix bird is supposed to represent rebirth, right?" She questioned, taking note of Phoebe's saddened expression. "This could represent the start of a new journey for you. You've set this expectation to follow in Olivia's shoes when it should've been creating your own path. To experience all of the things that make you happy. Other things can give your life meaning."
Phoebe's eyes soften. "I've never thought of it that way."
"Again, I know you too well, Jimenez." The girl winked.
"Well, usually exes want to forget about the other." Phoebe nervously picked at her nails.
"How could I ever want to forget the person that introduced me to the supernatural world?" Hayden playfully rolled her eyes. "Even if things weren't in the cards for us at the moment, you'll always be memorable to me."
Phoebe quickly nodded with a smile. "Of course! That's why I wanted to talk to you about this stuff because I missed this. Normal hangouts where we can talk about anything. Like you won't even believe what happened with Liam and some girl at the coffee shop—"
"Come on, Phoebe!" Thomas shouted from downstairs, causing Phoebe's eyes to widen. "If we want to buy the necessities for your dorm, we need to get going!"
"Coming!" She yelled back before nervously looking back down at the monitor, meeting Hayden's amused expression. "Rain check?"
"And you were just getting to the good part." Hayden chuckled. "But yes, rain check. Remember what I said, all right? Talk to you later, Jimenez." She says before the video chat call ended.
"Rebirth." Phoebe whispered under her breath before giving a resolute nod and walking out of her room.
Time for a fresh start.
Olivia's POV:
With all of our things already packed in the rented U-haul container, Argent drove ahead first as Allison followed close behind.
Since Argent never got the chance to see our apartment, he offered to haul the container using her car so Allison and I could bring mine to the apartment.
I look through the side view mirror, watching as our friends stood side by side with each other as they waved goodbye with smiles on their faces but I couldn't help but feel my heart clench at the sight of Phoebe with tears in her eyes.
What can you say about leaving a place you loved? All the memories, all the experiences can be heartbreaking...until the excitement takes over.
Thankfully Lydia took notice of Phoebe's state and she immediately wrapped an arm around her, pulling the girl into a hug as Liam comfortingly patted her shoulder with a warm smile.
Because you soon realize you get to make new memories, have new experiences...and best of all,
I feel Allison's hand placed on top of mine which causes me to look away from the mirror and meet her smile as she gives my hand a short comforting squeeze.
"I love you so much, Olivia Flores." She whispered, pressing a quick kiss against our interlaced hands before resting them in the middle console between us.
Fall in love all over again.
I give a small smile. "And I love you most, Allison Argent. Always."
I look back out the window once more, seeing nothing but the foliage the further we drove out of the town that gave me the adventure of a lifetime.
You hope the place made you who you are, challenged your beliefs, pushed you out of your comfort zone, and gave you the strength to demand better.
The large wooden sign that read "You Are Now Leaving Beacon Hills, come back again soon!" comes into view and I couldn't help but sadly smile in remembrance of everything that stumbled into my life.
It also prepared me for what's to come the next time we decide to visit again...but for now, Allison and I needed this. The end of a chapter.
A new journey.
