Twenty-One
Phoebe's POV:
Light suddenly fills the stone-like cottage room as soon as I pull open the door with Hayden close behind.
"You did it." Hayden says with a grin, admiring the cage in front of Scott, Mason, Corey, and Liam.
"Of course we did it." Mason pants with relief.
Liam walks over to Theo and unlocks the chains around his wrists before they walk over to the transformer in the back of the room.
He moves aside some of the vines covering the switches and pushed the lever, watching as it whirred to life. "This thing can transmute the energy from a lightning bolt. Even successive strikes."
"Mason, are you sure this is gonna work?" Scott worriedly asks.
"Well, whatever's inside this cage is shielded from any outside electrical current." Mason gestured to the cage next to him. "So, the Ghost Rider won't be able to use lightning to escape."
"We put a lightning rod on the roof and connected it to that conduit cable, drawing the Ghost Rider to that spot." Corey chimed in, pointing to the roof and the metal plate nearby where Scott stood.
"We can't send him directly in because the cage neutralizes electromagnetism." I add. "Lightning will just bounce off of it but at the same time, it'll hold him in."
"If the Ghost Rider lands here, how do we get him in the cage?" Scott questioningly asks.
"We have to lure him in." Corey replies.
Scott raises a brow. "Bait?"
"Me." Liam lifts his hand. "I can be the bait."
"No, it has to be me." Hayden cuts in with her expression filled with determination. "I'm faster than you."
My eyes widen. "Wait, what? Hayden--" I cut myself off, taking in Hayden's expression. I needed to trust her. "Nevermind."
"As soon as Hayden's out, Scott and Liam," Mason quickly walks over to the gate and demonstrates closing them shut. "you guys close the gates. And then Phoebe will put down a barrier of Mountain Ash." He says, gesturing to the two jars on the table.
"I'll be on the roof to take down the rod." Corey adds. "Mason and I will be on the lookout for any other Ghost Riders."
"What do you guys think?" Liam nervously speaks up, glancing between Scott and I.
The corners of Scott's mouth shift into a smile. "I think it's the best idea that we have right now."
"As long as everything goes perfectly and he doesn't escape and kill us all." Theo sarcastically smiles.
"And you transformer works and the whole place doesn't catch on fire." Hayden remarks.
"And there isn't a catastrophic solar flare." Mason mutters under his breath.
A moment of silence passes over before I clap my hands together with a nod. "Let's do it." I firmly state. "For Stiles and Olivia."
"Right." Mason quickly walks over to the device and turns the dials on its max setting.
The cage crackles electricity across the metal cage which causes me to smile, along with the sounds of thunder rumbling outside.

The rest of us discreetly watch as Hayden awkwardly stands in the middle of the room, waiting for the Ghost Rider to arrive.
Suddenly, the lighting strikes directly on the metal plate in which causes the Ghost Rider to appear.
He tilts his head to the side in curiosity, watching as Hayden nervously took a step back. She quickly sprints inside the cage with the Ghost Rider closing in right behind her, pulling its pistol out of the holster.
Before he could shoot, she dives out of the other exit and Liam jumps out of the shadows by slamming the cage shut and locking it afterward.
Scott sprints forward to shut the other side but before he could completely close it, it abruptly stops into place.
"Oh crap!" I curse under my breath, seeing that the wheels weren't willing to budge. I try to run forward but Theo beats me to it by sprinting to Scott.
He pulls the other gate shut but before he could completely close it, the Ghost Rider tugs Theo's arm inside the cage to prevent it from closing all the way.
"Keep closing it!" Theo grunts.
Scott obliges and pulls onto the gate, earning a sickening crack of Theo's arm which causes him to let out a cry of pain.
I shove the mountain ash jar into Mason's hands and sprint towards the two, wrapping my arms around Theo's body and tug. Mustering every bit of my strength, I harshly pull us backward and stumble to the ground which freed his arm from the Ghost Rider's grasp.
With a roar, Scott slams the gates shut and within seconds, Mason quickly pours the mountain ash across the gate.
"Go!" Scott shouts to Mason, seeing that he finished pouring the line across, and bolted out of the room.
The Ghost Rider reaches for his gun but Scott lifts it for him to see that he sneakily swiped it during the chaos.
"Who would've thought Ms. Phoebe Jimenez would save my life?" Theo chuckles from beside me with a smirk.
I roll my eyes at his expression. "Don't get used to it." I remark, harshly elbowing his stomach which earned a groan to escape from his lips as I stood up to my feet at ease.
The Ghost Rider lifts its hand to the roof, causing the cage to crackle with electricity as the currents run across the lines connected to the metal cage.
I start to smile, seeing that the Ghost Rider stayed in its place. "It worked."
"We did it." Liam whispered, reluctantly offering his hand for Theo to grab to pull him up.
Scott smiles with relief. "Yeah, we did."
However, the Ghost Rider's soulless eyes kept their stares at us as it slowly rose its hands. The electric currents run through the metal cage, this time more than before, causing the dimly-lit transformer to shine a bit brighter.
Allison's POV:
"You broke up with him?" Lydia's questioned with shock laced in her tone which soon enough followed with some shuffling in the background. "How come? Why didn't you tell me last night?"
"I was more concerned about Malia's roars from the house rather than my boy troubles." I fiddle with the loose string on my floral window curtain, eyeing the cloudy skies beginning to come together. "And I think the breakup was necessary for both of us."
"Well...are you feeling okay?"
I lean against the wall with a sigh. "Is it messed up to say I don't feel upset that the relationship is over?"
"If you weren't happy, then no. Better to end it before he says the infamous three words to you and things get serious." I stay silent in which she lets out a small gasp. "Allison."
"I never said it back!" I quickly explain. "I just...I never thought it was the right time and ever since what Theo told me last night--"
"What did Theo tell you last night?"
"That Olivia and I had a deeper friendship than I thought." I move my phone away from my ear to put it on speaker, placing the device on the nightstand. "I could never bring myself to say it to Scott and I never knew why. I don't even remember enough of last year where Scott and I were serious but I know for sure I was at the happiest in my life. How did it just...go away?"
"A void." Lydia whispered and I furrow my brows in confusion. "Lenore conjured Caleb to fill the void she felt after the Wild Hunt passed through Canaan. What if Sheriff Stilinski is filling a void? What if he's filling it with Claudia?"
My eyes widen. "You think Claudia is dead? We just saw her the other day."
"Allison if you think about it, so many things don't make sense. She had a fatal disease, but then she's fine. She says her Jeep was stolen twenty years ago, but it's Stiles'. Oh, you should have seen the look on her face when I peeled back the wallpaper." She scoffed. "She wasn't just angry, she was scared. Like she was protecting a secret."
"It's his way of coping." I conclude. "That's why it felt off staying with Scott, of course! It was Olivia."
"Exactly! What if Claudia being here is preventing him from remembering Stiles?"
"We need to go see him." I lean off of the wall but before I could reach for my keys, she quickly cuts in.
"No, it's okay! I'll go." She interrupts. "The last time we tried, he probably felt cornered after we bombarded him with questions. We have to do this right."
I nod, taking a seat back on my bed. "Fine. Call me later?"
"Of course. Love you."
"Love you too." I say before I end the call, letting Lydia's words roam my thoughts.
A void...has this really been what I've had this whole time? Had it always been Olivia instead of Scott?
A breeze from outside enters my room which causes me to rub my arms with a shiver escaping from my lips.
I walk over to the window and reach to close the window, but instantly my vision brightens.
My hands come in contact with another arm and I harshly yank the person inside, causing them to face plant on the floor. I swiftly spin the figure on their back and press the blade against their throat, meeting the girl's blurred face with confusion.
"Olivia?"
"Hey," The girl nervously trails off. "you don't look sick to me."
Another flashback? "What do you think you're doing?" I question with annoyance laced in my tone.
"Someone told me you weren't at school today," She explained, shaking her head with disbelief.
"Did...Scott send you to check up on me?"
She shrugs. "Sort of. He didn't want me to be there during their interrogation with Ethan so he suggested that I could check up on you since I didn't want to just sit and do nothing in my classes." She awkwardly clears her throat. "I had to lie and tell my mom that I threw up my lunch and the nurse sent me home."
I raise a brow. "You lied to skip school so you could check up on me and not be bored?"
"Yeah, but I can see that I climbed a window for nothing since you seem fine." She scoffed before nodding her head towards the dagger in my hand. "Do you really think that a dagger can do good enough damage to the alphas? They could kill you."
The alphas? That was almost a year ago. "I can protect myself." I remark. "Also you do realize there's this thing called a door?"
"After your dad witnessed us...coincidentally in this position," She gestures to my straddling position on her waist. "I doubt he'd want to see my face again. Can you get off of me now?"
My vision brightens once more but I quickly rub my eyes, seeing that I wasn't straddling the figure anymore.
Hypothetically, if what Theo said was true, then there's a chance Olivia and I had more memories in my apartment. Maybe that's why I keep having random flashbacks.
I need to keep looking.
Phoebe's POV:
"Can I ask you something?" Hayden asks, interlacing her hand with mine as we trekked through the leaves in the woods.
I nod. "Anything."
"When Theo had his arm trapped by the Ghost Rider, are you positive he absorbed all of your powers?"
The question alone causes me to stop in our tracks with confusion. "What are you talking about?"
"For a split second, I saw your eyes glow orange when you pulled Theo out of there." She grabs onto my other hand, squeezing it. "Talk to me. Have you been feeling okay?"
"There was a moment before we went inside the tunnels where my hand dimly glowed." I mutter in discomfort and her eyes slightly widen. "But other than that I don't feel any different. At least...I don't think I do, but I don't want to bring it up with the others."
"Phoebe." She warned. "It could be serious."
"Not now, at least. Once we have information from the Ghost Rider, I'll let everyone know. If I don't get the chance to, then I'll read the Bestiary copy." I assure, bringing our hands close so I could kiss her knuckles. "You'll be the first person I tell if I don't feel okay, I promise. No more secrets."
She releases my hands but before I knew it, she cups my face in her hands and pulls me closer, pressing our lips together at ease.
My hands travel to her hips, pulling her body against mine and feeling her hands travel behind my neck which causes the kiss to grow deeper and deeper...and deeper. Enough to savor the moment perfectly.
Full of love.
Soon enough she pulls away to catch a breath but kept our foreheads pressed together, flashing a smile. "You drive me crazy, Phoebe Jimenez."
I lift her chin with my finger and pecked her lips with a smile. "I'm glad because you never leave my mind, Hayden Romero."
She rolls her eyes playfully and we continue to walk down the trail where Mason and Corey were keeping watch.
But the closer we got to where Mason stood near the trees, we didn't see Corey around.
"Uh...where's Corey?" Hayden spoke up, causing Mason to turn to us.
A smile appears on his face before he points to a nearby tree. "He's over there."
In a matter of seconds, Corey appears out of his invisibility with his mouth agape and I couldn't help but smile with an impressed expression. "How did you know?"
"How did you know?" Corey repeated, taking a few steps closer to us with a laugh.
"There's a refraction of light around your silhouette that I can always see." Mason shyly explains before he quickly shakes his head. "I don't know, it probably has something to do with pheromones or some other chemical interaction. It's my only power...finding you."
Corey's cheeks redden before he turns to Hayden and I. "Did you guys see anything on your end?"
My face flushes in embarrassment as I meet Hayden's eyes, remembering the moment between us not too long ago before I shake my head. "Nothing."
"Yeah." Hayden coughs, trying to hide her smile. "it's all clear."
Mason sighed. "I wish we knew what was happening." As if on cue, Hayden's phone buzzes and she quickly pulls it out of her pocket to read the message. "Anything?"
Hayden's expression shifts into a frown. "They can't get him to talk." She answers, shoving her phone back into her pocket.
Mason's eyes widen in realization. "They were communicating."
Corey tilts his head to the side in curiosity. "Who?"
"I was wrong about him. Well, no. I was right about him. A-Actually, I was wrong about him, but I was right about the wrong thing." He stammered, causing me to furrow my brows in confusion.
"I don't follow."
"Parrish. Remember how I thought that the Ghost Riders were scared of him?"
"At the party?" Hayden asks and he quickly nods.
"I think he was actually trying to communicate with him." He explains, making sure to look at each of us. "We need Parrish."
Allison's POV:
I push the door open to my dad's office, taking note of the small mess of papers scattered on his desk and a few crates stacked on top of each other in the corner.
I mean...it wouldn't hurt to check.
I slowly drag my hand across the wall and close my eyes, hoping for some sort of vision to pop up and carefully take a step forward.
My hand suddenly makes contact with the doorknob and I open my eyes, seeing that I stood in front of his closet.
I hesitantly twist the knob and pull it open, seeing several dark coats in the hangers and a couple of more stacked boxes on top of each other.
"What are you doing?" I hear myself whisper.
"N-Nothing." Another voice, recognizing it to be Olivia's, nervously stammered.
"Your hand is doing something."
My vision whitens and before I knew it, my surroundings shifts into the darkened closet.
I was face to face with the blurred figure but to my surprise, her left hand was pressed against my thigh. Oh.
"I-I'm so--"
I hear myself quickly hush her. "I'll just turn around." I turn to face the door, keeping a tight grip on the mini flashlight.
"Allison?"
"Yeah?"
"I can't exactly move my hands."
I glance behind, seeing that her hands were millimeters away from my butt and she was trying her hardest to make sure they didn't make contact.
I cover my mouth and let out a snort, slowly turning to face her again with a small smile.
Despite the fact I couldn't exactly see her face, I couldn't help but feel the need to lean in closer. The feeling of warmth in her arms, wanting to know what her lips felt against mine...it's almost as if I was being reunited with it again.
I need to be reunited with it again.
I move my head a bit upward, feeling her nose brush against mine which caused my heart to race at the contact.
I expected to feel her lips but all I could feel was air which causes my eyes to snap open, seeing she no longer stood in the spot anymore.
"No, no, no." I whisper, pushing the clothes to the side but to no avail, I was out of the vision. "Dammit."
