Fourteen
Olivia's POV:
I rip open another crate but I let out a sigh, seeing as it didn't have anything inside. "Nothing here either, Scott."
The intercom crackles above us. "Guys, get out of there now." Argent sternly spoke.
"Let's go before they all get back." Malia pleaded and I nod, moving towards the door we just entered through but she paused in her steps and glanced behind me. "What?"
I follow her line of vision, seeing as Scott stayed in place as he stared at another door across the room. "That scent..."
Her eyes narrow into concentration. "It's Jiang and Tierney."
"They're here?" I ask in surprise.
"Guys, you need to leave now!" Allison's voice spoke through the intercom.
"Help me with this." Scott ordered Malia and she nods, the two quickly rushing over to the door. They wrap their hands around the metal door and I watch as they pulled with as much strength as they could but it refused to budge.
"No, no, no!" Argent urgently spoke up again. "Don't open that door!"
But it was too late. The door finally slid open but in a matter of seconds, the sounds of clicking rang out which was soon followed by the doors swinging shut one by one to lock us in.
Phoebe's POV:
Liam tries to peek his head around the wall but I quickly nudged his shoulder. "You're going to get caught if you keep peeking."
Liam ignored the comment and tries peeking around the wall but Theo stepped forward, pulling his shoulder back. "I'm not dying out here because you want payback against some kid who kicked your ass, okay?"
He rolled his eyes and continued to try to peek around the wall but in a matter of seconds, Theo yanked his arm and dragged him further away which caused me to quickly follow.
Liam huffed. "Let go."
"Calm down!" Theo raised his voice.
"I said let go!" Liam growled as his eyes flashed gold.
I furrow my brows in confusion. "What's going on with you? Is Nolan causing you to shift?"
He shook his head, causing the color of his eyes to return. "I'm fine."
"No. Something around here is triggering him." Theo scoffed. "What is it? The hunters? You don't like cages? Scared of heights?"
"I said I'm fine!"
"They're up here!" My head snapped, seeing as Nolan aimed his crossbow at Liam with a smirk.
Before any of us could move, Liam lets out a roar and tackles him off of the ledge which causes them to topple over.
"Dammit." Theo groaned before he turned to me. "I'll make sure time-bomb over here doesn't rip Nolan's head off while you try to lead the other hunters off somewhere else, got that?"
I nod and he jumps over the ledge while I quickly sprint back to the darkened hall.
However, I skid to a stop as soon as I hear Monroe's scoff. "The armory failsafe was triggered and I can't reach anyone there."
"Don't worry about it." A rasped voice hummed and I sneakily peek around the wall, watching as Gerard eyed our packed supplies in amusement while Monroe shook her head with disbelief.
"None of that sounds remotely suspicious?" She questioned.
"None of it sounds remotely worthy of my time." He harshly stated.
"What if it's Scott?"
"Well, of course, it's Scott!" He chuckled, causing my eyes to widen. Our plan didn't work.
"Then what are we still doing here?"
"We're doing what we came here to do." He turned away from the supplies with a smirk. "kill his Beta. Make the phoenix lose all hope by killing her protégé."
"Phoebe Jimenez?" Monroe crossed her arms over her chest in confusion. "But she's human. Why would we go after a human?"
"If you had done your homework, you would know that she was previously a part of the Chimera pack led by Theo." He hummed, causing my heart to sink. "Corey survived so it's a possibility she may contain powers of the phoenix or her old abilities. Always keep the possibilities in mind."
She gives a resolute nod. "Then we take down Scott?"
"Do you have any concept of what the bond between an Alpha and his Beta is like? I would say it's as strong, if not stronger, than the bond between parent and child." He explained and a look of curiosity formed on her face. "Imagine what would happen to the parent if I snapped his child's neck and dropped it at his feet."
I shakily back away from the wall and wipe my hands on my pants, feeling my nerves begin to overwhelm me.
"Okay, I get it." Monroe paused. "What about the rest of his pack?"
"When Scott falls..." He trailed off but I could hear the smile form on his expression.
"It'll break all of them."
We have to get out of here.
I sneakily go back to the way I came from but as if on cue, the sounds of growls cause me to pause in my steps.
"S-She wants me to kill you." I hear Nolan stammer. "She'll kill me if I don't."
Another growl erupts and I quickly sprint down the rest of the darkened hallway, hearing the repetitive sound of something hitting the rock wall.
Once I reached the end of the tunnel, my eyes widen in horror at the sight of Liam lifting his bloodied fist, preparing to strike Nolan who was pinned to the wall with a panic-stricken expression.
Before I could move to stop him, a figure swoops in and swings a punch against Liam's head and knocked him to the ground.
Theo shook his head with disbelief before looking up to meet Nolan's eyes with a coy smile. "Run."
Nolan scrambles away from the pair and takes off in a different direction, leaving me to step out of my hiding place and crouch down to Liam's level to help him to stand.
Allison's POV:
"Nope. Everything's shut down." My dad sighed in frustration as he tried to shut off the beeping from the failsafe. "They're locked in, and we can't do anything about it."
"What's this?" Lydia asked, pointing to the H-2100 sensor label. "What does H-2100 mean?"
"A motion sensor." He explained, gesturing to the blinking light. "'H' stands for halon. It's a fire suppression system. It'll pull all the oxygen out of the room to put out a fire."
"So Olivia can't burn the door down if she even wanted to." I whisper and my dad reluctantly nods. "The smoke would trigger the alarm."
"All of the oxygen?" Lydia worriedly asked. "How long can a werewolf hold their breath?"
"I think we're about to find out."
Olivia's POV:
"Stupid door!" I grunt, trying to budge the exit door open. "The one thing I wanted to avoid was being trapped in a room!"
"The other won't budge either." Malia grunted, using all of her might to shove it open.
"Guys..." Scott trailed off and I turn around, seeing as he stepped into the small room he and Malia opened. "Check this out."
I walk towards the small room and my eyes shift over to the large map on the wall over the stand. On the map, it had seven red dots marked all over the countries along with dozens of lines sprawled across it.
Below on the stand, it displayed two fangs, a small berserker-like skull, and another skull I couldn't decipher.
Almost like trophies.
But I couldn't take my stare off of the golden arrow inside of a display case and I tilt my head to the side with my brows furrowed. It seemed too...familiar.
However, on the other side of the room, I practically almost gag at the sight of a clear case containing a piece of flesh with Satomi's tattoo pack symbol painted across it and a ripped pair of furry wolf ears on top.
Malia came running into the room in confusion, seeing only the displays in front of us. "Where's Jiang and Tierney?"
"T-They..." I sadly trail off but I was practically speechless. Just the thought of them being tortured to get pieces of themselves to display as a trophy, I couldn't bring myself to say it.
"They're here." Scott finished for me in defeat, seeing as I didn't have the strength to say it. "That's all that's left of them."
"If I stay in here longer, I might puke." I whisper, backing away out of the room and walking towards the shelves to sit down, holding my head in my hands with a sigh.
Suddenly, the sound of a small click causes me to look up, watching as a line of red light shoots out and starts to move around the room.
"Olivia duck!" Scott shouted as it started to head towards me.
I quickly follow his command and lay flat on my back, barely making it on time to see it fly over my face which causes me to audibly gulp.
Allison's POV:
"Communications are shut down, and the room is soundproof." My dad explained as I held down the stool for him to stand on without it wobbling.
"We need to warn them." Lydia worriedly urged.
"We are. One of these pipes leads in there." He pointed to the pipes above us before gesturing towards his pistol on top of the desk. "Take out the mag and pass me the pistol, will you?"
I nod, detaching the magazine from the pistol and placing the gun in his hands. He slams the weapon against one of the small pipes several times before looking down at the computer.
"Anything?"
I watch for any sort of reaction from the three but Scott and Malia seemed unfazed as they worriedly stared at the red lasers while Olivia laid still on the shelf with a panic-stricken expression.
"What is that?" Malia questioned as Scott held his arm out in front of her so she wouldn't take a step out of the room.
"It's a motion sensor." Scott answered but she furrowed her brows in confusion.
"If they already know we're here, then what do they need a sensor for?"
"I'd rather not find out." Olivia grumbled in annoyance. "I've seen spy movies like this and usually people avoid them!"
I shake my head, seeing as they didn't show any sort of reaction to the noise. "Nothing. Try another one, Dad."
He nodded and slammed the gun against the larger pipe several times, causing me to look back towards the computer. In a matter of seconds, Scott looked up in curiosity.
"I think he hears you!" Lydia announced but my dad continued to slam the gun against the pipe, creating a large indentation until the piece came out which revealed the inside. "What are you doing?"
He released the gun out of his hands, letting it clatter to the ground so he could cup his mouth with his hands. "Don't trip the sensors!"
Olivia's POV:
As if on cue, another beam of the red light appeared five feet high, causing my eyes to widen.
"Come on." Scott urged Malia, gesturing to the shelf above me.
He leaped over the low sensor first just as the top one went straight over his head. Malia quickly followed suit and in a matter of seconds, the pair leaped to the top shelf over me with Malia landing flat on Scott's chest.
"Sorry." Malia breathed out as she started to peel herself off of his chest but immediately Scott pulled her back down just as another sensor activated above their heads. "This is..."
I awkwardly watch as Scott timidly moved his hands off of her waist. "...Uncomfortable?" He questioned before clearing his throat.
"No." Malia shrugged.
"Speak for yourself" I mumble as I nervously scratch my nose before I quickly move my hand down as the sensor flew above my face. "Now's the time for a plan, McCall."
Malia glanced around the room until her eyes widened. "I've got an idea."
"Okay." Scott quickly nodded.
"Uh, it's kind of a plan."
"Sounds great!"
She lifted herself a bit with a brow raised. "You don't even know what it is yet."
"Well, I mean, it's great that you have a plan--" He quickly tried to explain until the sensor came close, causing him to force her back into his chest with a grunt.
"Just say the plan for god's sake!" I groan, not wanting to be in the same room anymore with them. "Because the sooner we get out, the sooner you two can talk about you guys being so awkward to each other without me in the room."
"We are not awkward." Scott remarked. "We're just--"
"Anyways," Malia interrupted in annoyance, nodding her head towards the lock on the skylight above us. "I'm thinking that's our way out."
"W-We can't reach that." Scott panicked.
Malia sat up again in disbelief. "I can reach it."
Scott yanks her back into his chest as the sensor flies over their heads once more and he tilts his head slightly to glance down at me. "Liv, what if you used your fire abilities to melt the lock?"
"If I do that, it might trigger another sensor to put out the fire." I explain before I shake my head. "We'll be dead within minutes. I think our best option is Malia's plan."
He looks back up at Malia before letting out a sigh. "You might trip a sensor."
"Trust me. I've got this."
Allison's POV:
"Okay. If I can bypass the electrical system," My dad grunted, pulling out another blue wire from the control panel and nudging me to pull out the other wire in front of me. "I might be able to reset the console. Do this one too."
I yank out the two cords but Lydia clutched my arm. "What the hell is she doing?"
I look over at the screen and my eyes widen, watching as Malia jumped up and grabbed onto one of the poles attached to the ceiling.
"It's coming back, Mal!" Olivia encouraged as Malia swung her body across to the other pole and her legs dangled.
She swung her legs forward to wrap around the pipe in time just as the red sensor flew across. She swiped her hand to reach the padlock but her fingertips barely graze it, causing her to roll her eyes in frustration.
She swung her body back and forth in an attempt to gain momentum until finally, she swiped her hand again, managing to knock the padlock off of the hinges.
"Yes!" Olivia and Scott cheer in unison as it fell to the floor.
However, a sudden alarm blared in the room and smoke shot down from the ceiling. Olivia quickly covered her face but the smoke caused Scott to fall off of the metal shelf and onto the ground since it blasted directly at his face. Malia's grip loosened from the pipe and she fell flat on her back with a grunt, weakly moving towards the cemented pillar.
"No, no, no, no." I whisper, helplessly watching as Olivia held onto her throat with her eyes wide. She rolled off of the shelf and weakly crawled towards where Scott and Malia lay against the cemented pillar.
"How long do they have?" I worriedly ask.
I dreadfully look over to my dad at his silence and his eyes soften as soon as they meet mine. "Minutes."
"And Olivia can't even resurrect. Without oxygen...the transition won't work." Lydia whispered.
My heart clenched. "It's not just that." I whisper which causes them to furrow their brows in confusion. "When she brought Phoebe back to life, she sacrificed her ability to resurrect from the dead. Once she dies...she's gone for good."
