Inch
Drew the store's owner *wink* comes in later in the chappie
While you would have liked to say that Sunday went past fast, it didn't.
At all.
It dragged so hard, and so long, and your mother was working, again. No company, or mind to dump random ideas into. You stewed in your own madness, pondering all the small things you had ever done in your life.
That, was unfortunately, how all the Sunday's in your life went like since the divorce.
Mom too busy to work, and you just kinda lingered.
A fleeting thought flew past your head, one wondering if you should head over to Dad's house. Apartment, actually. Really small and cramped, kinda stuffy, and lacking a lot of decorations.
Maybe it'd be nice to.
Maybe not.
Maybe you just didn't feel like doing anything.
And maybe that maybe was right, because you plopped yourself down on your bed and didn't bother to do anything else.
Nnoooo sir.
You are just gonna sit here and not do anything.
A small ticking on your window drew your attention.
Second story window might you add- so its probably just some wind.
You continued to sink into the blankets.
Your phone did a notification jingle, but you didn't bother to look at it.
You just kept wallowing.
Until a knocking sound thumped on your window.
Glancing up with an annoyed huff- you were met with a strange surprise. Or well, pleasant in this case.
Wolf, that mad man, was sitting at your window. Two stories up. Barely balancing on the couple of inches of roof, window sill, and gutter that were there.
With a small panic, you rushed over and opened the window, watching as he tumbled through, laying on your floor with a huff and a smile.
"What were you doing at my window!!!!"
Wolf just laughed, "Well I tried the front door, but no one answered, so I decided to try the window."
You frowned, "You could have fell..."
Wolf stood up, "Almost did- hahah!"
You gave him a blank stare.
He made a nervous face, "and I won't do it again, because I know I worried you."
You rose an eyebrow.
And he huffed, "Scout's honor- even though I'm not a scout."
Finally, you smiled, spreading your arms out in a hug motion, to which wolf immediately complied, dipping in and give you a big squeeze.
"Alright, now that that's over with, why did you climb up my window in the first place?"
Wolf immediately groaned, slapping his face and drooping his shoulders, "Ugh..."
You looked around your room, noticing just how much of a slob you were while Wolf continued, "I got so bored at my house, and all of my siblings were being annoying- the usual yelling and stuff-"
As he talked, you started kicking some clothes under the bed, "So I got thinking- what if I hung with my best bud?"
You kicked a few more clothes under the bed before grabbing some tasty cake trash and popping them into the little garbage can near your desk.
"My best bud is you of course- but then I was like- oh, we can't hang, we don't have cars-" you stacked a few dishes on each other, dusting crumbs off your desk and into the trash can.
"But then I realized- I know where you live! I'll pop in for a surprise visit, and we can go hang somewhere!!!"
Wolf proceeded to jaz hands in a tada sort of way, sashaying over and yoinking the pile of dishes off your desk, "I can help ya clean up if you want?"
Smiling at him you nodded, "Yes, that would be appreciated."
With a smile, a grin, and a couple minutes, the two of you decided to just spring clean the entire house out of boredom.
Only there was a catch- an add on, as one would say. First one done wins a reward of their choosing.
So of fucking course you were gunning hard for this. You wanted to make him drop and give you like fifty push-ups just to watch him suffer.
You were both hurricanes, malforms of order and chemicals.
Darting through the kitchen with a broom, you swept at any dust bunny you found, glancing over at Wolf who was half way through the dishes-
He made eye contact with you, smugly smiling and saying, "Two more chores for me to dooo~"
"FUCK-" You swept yourself out of the room and threw the broom in the closet, running to the vacuum and all but throwing it onto the carpet.
You could hear Wolf laughing as you plugged the vacuum in, "What's wrong? Scared??"
You flicked the vacuum switch on, "SORRY- CAN'T HEAR YOU-"
You proceeded to run through the house, banging the vacuum into everything with how much force you were putting into running it around.
You still had three things to do, including the vacuum, and you would beat yourself over the head if you lost this.
Already, you could hear Wolf calmly putting away the dishes, and with a determined screech, you charged back to the closet and slammed the vacuum in it.
A quick switch the Windex and you ran to the windows.
So two things to do, while Wolf only had one- once he finished dishes. SHit- how many windows were in this house- running like a mad fool, you jumped onto the kitchen counter, spraying, and wiping viciously at the window.
Wolf kept laughing at your panic, setting the last of the dishes away and hanging the dish towel, "See, I would be impressed with how high you just jumped if I wasn't currently your rival-"
You hissed at him, wiping the corner of the glass before leaping off the counter and darting up the steps.
He was on his last thing, and you still had this and another thing to dooooo-
You would never make it- but you'd be damned if you gave up after all the work you put in.
Of course, no matter how viscious and fast you wiped at those windows, as you came back down the steps, Wolf was already leaning on the table, happy looking face laughing at your disgruntled state.
Throwing your hands in the air you came strutting over, "Fine, fine- I loose- make me do the 50 pushups you wanted to make me do..."
Wolf just pushed your wiggling arms away and rose an eyebrow, "Who said anything about pushups?" You looked at him with a suspicous face and he continued, "For my reward- I get another day to be a hooligan with my friend."
Tilting your head you gave an apprehensive look, "No pushups?"
"No pushups."
"Just a day running around like a hooligan?"
"Yuep."
Your arms were back in the air and a loud 'whoop' left your mouth- to which Wolf grinned and whooped as well.
"Hurry- go grab your stuff let's go!" He shooed you off and you darted up the stairs one last time in order to grab your jacket and shoes.
Your phone was already in your pocket, so it didn't take too long to gather yourself. You strutted back down the steps, stepping next to Wolf by the front door and nudging him, "Any plans in particular?"
"Nope." He smiled, opening the door, "But mayyybe run a muck at that skateboard store near the post office."
"Noice-" You followed him outside, shutting the door behind you and locking it, "You planning on getting a skateboard?"
"Longboard, actually-" His grin grew bigger, "Always wanted one- and just saved up enough to splurge."
You smiled at his enthusiasm. He really wanted one- the excitement on his face obvious. It was kinda cute. It made you glad to be his friend, and glad that he wanted to share an experience like this with you.
The walk over was relatively uneventful, Wolf ranting and ranting about all the videos he's watched on people long boarding- you had to admit- he made it all very interesting.
By the time you both arrived at the store, you almost felt like an expert on boards, Wolf excitedly bouncing in and dragging you to a rack filled with skateboards. Even though they weren't long boards, he was excited about them, looking at designs and trying to get you to try to balance on one.
You nearly fell flat on your face. Twice. So you let Wolf do what he wanted to do.
Which meant you got to see him fall on his ass- which was hilarious, but you helped him up regardless.
Eventually, after enough of being public nuisances, Wolf found the 'perfect board' and took it to the register.
The cashier looked to be in his early twenties- ears peirced with two black ear gauges.
His hair was an explosion of color, red primarily flaring around him, but yellow and blue highlighting the base of it.
All around, he looked like a cool person. And bonus cause he immediately brightened when he saw what was in Wolf's hand.
"Yoo- grabbing a new board?" Was the raspy question.
"Yeup- first board actually." Wolf chirped.
"Haha- I could tell." The cashier grinned good-naturedly, "You fell over the moment you stepped on it."
Wolf laughed, nodding his head and handing over some very crumpled twenties.
He all but yoinked the reciet out of the cashier's hand, grabbing his new long board and running out of the store.
You sighed, gently taking the change he left behind from the cashier.
"He always like that?"
You simply nodded, smiling out of amusement, "Yeup." Not a moment later and you followed after Wolf, who was already trying to test out his board.
You watched as he fell flat on his ass a second time- breaking into a laugh at his disgruntled expression.
"HAha- broo- what are you doing???"
He shot you an annoyed look, "I have absolutely no gosh darn idea." Then he threw his hand in your direction, "Help plz??"
With a grin and a swing of your arm, you grabbed his hand and pulled him up.
From there, Wolf insisted that a rock had tripped him, and he wanted to get to clear ground. So of course, you laughed, and you agreed to go to the skate park with him.
The entire walk down he attempted to use his board. Pausing every six seconds to get back on his board after he was forced off by gravity.
Both of you were so caught up with the novelty of the situation that you realized you didn't even know how to get to the skate park, so imagine your luck when you roll up on an abandoned turnpike. Darkness enstrounding you. Because the walk took long enough for the sun to set.
The entrance to the turnpike was a short tunnel, moonlight visible on the other side.
And of course, Wolf took one look at it and was instantly ensnared with excitement.
Just one look at his smiling puppy dog face and you were walking through the tunnel, trying your best to hold a brave face with how sketched out you were.
A sound of whispers caught your attention, your body harshly flinching and looking to your left. Three people were there, two sitting on the ground taking part in some sort of card game, while the third was standing, burned cigarette in his mouth.
There red eyes were surprisingly prominent, and you shoved Wolf faster towards the other side.
"Hey-" Came the gravely voice of the one standing, who coincidentally was the tallest of the group and therefore the most intimidating, "Where's a couple like you two going so late at night."
You wanted to run out more then anything in the world, but you squared you shoulders and put on the best confident face you could, "Was looking for a place to try out a new board- why?"
"We don't usually get the nicest folks round here- jus' askin', no harm done."
Despite the that you still felt incredibly tense, and Wolf seemed to feel your anxiety, bristling up and squaring his shoulders into a much more battle ready position beside you.
The two on the floor stood up, one female, one male, both wearing similar getups with ripped up shirts and goth looking bracelets and belts. Twins?
Just when it felt like the tension was about to snap, a voice cut in.
"Easy now fellows- that's not the way to treat a passerby."
Skinny.
Was your first thought.
So... skinny.
A lithe figure, black hoodie massive on them, and hood pulled up just enough to let their stiff white hair stick out.
Their arms were outstretched in a welcoming way, but you felt anything but welcomed.
Trapped?
Yes. Trapped worked much better.
"Emphasis on passerby- if its too much trouble for us to test out the board we can go elsewhere, no biggie." Wolf's harsh voice came from beside you hand clutching his longboard as he held ground.
"Noo- nonsense, stick around, we don't mind- do we guys?"
The trio had no response, but a male figure emerged from the darkness, standard blue shirt and jeans brightly colored and rather surprising when everyone else had dark and goth looking clothes, "Nope, we don't mind at all."
His hair was dyed cyan- the green blue mesh of color was floppy and in need of a trim.
Wolf grabbed onto your wrist.
He was nervous, you could tell. You sent each other a glance, and both of you knew the other was horrified that we had gotten in this situation.
"Come on- take a seat- we got room to spare."
The lithe figure trotted over gesturing to the deck of cards the trio had been sitting at before standing at your arrival.
Their approach intimidated you enough to force your body into plopping down. Not that you wanted to, but you didn't want to know what would happen if you didn't.
Wolf stood, still just as tense as you, but he was refusing to sit like they had asked you to.
They rose a cut brow at that, grey eyes intense as you patted Wolf's leg.
He huffed, plopping down beside you with his legs crossed.
He really didn't want to sit.
And neither did you. Not at all.
Imagine your surprise when they turn around to saw something to the cyan haired dude and you spot a fucking gun in their back pocket- and just-
Never in your life did you think that much fear was possible- you blanched-
Desperate- and you thought to yourself-
'I'm not going to live.'
You don't think Wolf saw it- if he did he'd have become even tenser like you had. He was too busy keeping his head turned to watch yours and his own back.
God- fuck.
You needed a way out of this situation.
The white haired person whipped back around, small grin in your direction promising you trouble.
You closed your eyes in your own shameless wish that when you open them again you wouldn't be here in this abandoned tunnel anymore.
That was when yet another set of footsteps entered the ring.
Long strides, light footfalls, a new atmosphere settled with the new presence- which made your eyes flick open.
The silhouetted figure standing near the entrance of the tunnel was tall. Very, very tall- and the glow of their eyes was enough for you to realize exactly who they were.
If the fact that everyone in the room directed their eyes to the ground was anything to go by- they knew who he was as well.
His calm, steady footsteps wandered up to everyone, stopping as he finally got clear view of who all was in the circle of people.
You couldn't see it, and neither could anyone else, but the shocked expression on his face was breif, and quickly swept away with his voice uttering a low, "What are they doing here..."
Abruptly he strut up to you, grabbing your shoulders as if to feel that you were really here.
"Are you alright?"
You were taken aback by the concern, frozen by the warmth of his tone.
"Uhh..." you scratched the back of your neck, quite awkwardly with his hands still on your shoulders, "Yeah I guess.."
Wolf put a hand on your back, moreso to assure himself that you were there then anything else.
"What were you trying to do to them." His harsh tone flicked in direction of the white haired person.
They glared at the ground, grey eyes burning a hole through the cracked cement.
"Skylar..." Endre growled out, forcing his hands off your shoulders to instead look in their direction.
Skylar? Was that their name?
Thats usually a female name, but you really didn't want to assume.
"I wasn't doing anything- they walked through themselves and I was gonna check and see who they were. Maybe rough em up a little."
Endre made a disgruntled noise, slender figure tense as his fists clenched.
He said nothing else, merely grabbing your hand and gesturing Wolf to follow with a nod of his head.
"Lets get you out of here." His gruff voice was gentler when he directed it to you, and wordlessly you let yourself get tugged along, grabbing Wolf's hand and walking out of the tunnel as a line of people.
It was funny with how tall Endre was- made it look like a mother duck leading their ducklings around.
He didn't bother stopping after he walked out of the tunnel, merely continuing to walk, back into a much more familiar area of town.
"Hey- this is the park..."
No one said anything as you all wandered in, the night wind cold and feeling rather uncaring.
Endre stopped, releasing your hand after a brief moment of contemplation.
You held onto Wolf's.
Endre makes a few noises, half strangled off by the time he opens his mouth. He's trying to find words, but nothing is the right way to say how he's feeling.
"Those people aren't good people." He finally manages. Not what he wanted to say, but a truth, and a truth was better then feeling.
"I figured." You muttered back.
"If you see Skylar again- get out of there."
"Not much guidance needed there."
"That area of town is crawling with them, so its best to stear clear of there too." His shoulders gave a heave of breath, back still facing you and Wolf.
"Thank you for the warning."
Finally he turned around, still very unsure sounding and looking.
"..your welcome.."
You gave a small smile, unsure of if he saw it or not, but the burning question in the back of your head caused it to drop.
"How do you know all these things?"
Wolf piped in from beside you with a justified, "Yeah! and why were you there in the first place?!"
A silence passed in the air, Endre's already tense figure going completely still.
A nervous garbled noise came from him.
You swallowed with an anxious gulp.
Wolf took another step forward, nearly as tense as before.
And then the tall figure in front of you was gone.
A flurry of purple glittering dust left where he was standing.
..
What the fuck.
