Safe with you
Enjoy :) this is a request. They experience a tornado together.
Rainbow felt someone shaking her. She could feel herself slipping out of the dream she was currently having. Saving the world would have to wait. Rainbow groaned as she awoke, swatting at the hands.
"Nghhh."
"Rainbow. Wake up, babe." She heard the angelic voice of none other than Applejack.
Rainbow groggily opened her eyes. She rubbed them, grumpy from being woken up.
"What??" She mumbled.
Opening her eyes, she looked to see Applejack leaning over her, fully dressed in a jacket, jeans, shoes. Rainbow must've looked confused because Applejack then said,
"Ah'm just being prepared just in case because there's a tornado warnin' right now, so get up and put in some pants and shoes. Just in case we have to go into the basement."
AJ got off her. Rainbow sat up, yawning. She stretched before getting out of bed. She found a pair of long pants and changed into them. After putting on some sneakers and slipping on a hoodie, Rainbow wrapped her blanket around herself and faced Applejack with a dead tired expression.
"I'm still tired. Carry me." She commanded
Applejack hummed in amusement. She walked over to her girlfriend and picked her up in her arms, bridal style.
"Alright. Let's go downstairs to the livin' room."
Rainbow Dash simply yawned and laid her head on Applejack's shoulder, eyes closed. Applejack carries her downstairs to the living room. The tv was on, the news channel on the screen. Applejack laid Rainbow on the couch, Rainbow already knocked out. She left her there and went to go get Rainbow's phone from upstairs.
Applejack was not one to take these situations lightly. Growing up in a family like the Apple family, she was taught to always be prepared for any situation and to look out for herself and her family.
Her mom and dad had died in a storm. It was a very bad one that killed many others, destroying property and such. Applejack has since always hated any kind of weather disaster or storm. She was trusted by Rainbow's family to take care of Rainbow Dash. She was going to do anything she could to do that. Rainbow was very laid back, maybe even a little oblivious to danger. She never really stopped and thought things through. She always let her emotions guide her decisions, which got her into sticky situations. Applejack was the most serious and level-headed of the two. Always following the rules, making Rainbow Dash didn't go off and do something dumb or illegal or get herself killed.
She took her job as guardian and protector of Rainbow seriously.
Applejack made them peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, packing them in plastic bags. She put them down in the basement, just in case Rainbow and her needed to go down there.
Applejack made sure everything was in order. Water bottles, stocked up canned goods, blankets, pillows, a ready air mattress, emergency money, flashlights and extra batteries, a backpack full of extra clothes, a first aid kit and even a radio. Applejack did not play around. Applejack felt proud of herself. It was technically Twilight's idea, but Applejack built the shelter.
Rainbow knew how Applejack felt about storms and supported her decision to build the storm shelter. She never made a comment or teased Applejack in her intense fear of storms. She simply let Applejack do what she thought she should do to protect them.
The sudden sound of an alarm sent her into high alert.
"APPLEJACK!" Rainbow yelled a few seconds later, who probably had been woken up by the alarm from the tv.
Applejack hurried upstairs. She ran into the living room to see Rainbow sitting up, their dog, Tank, who Applejack hadn't seen all day, sitting beside RD.
Applejack looked at the tv screen. In big letters sliding across the screen, there was an alert that said, "TORNADO HAS TOUCHED GROUND IN CANTERLOT CITY. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY".
Rainbow looked at Applejack, worry in her eyes. The two girls looked at the window. They could see the window blowing the trees outside. It was very strong. Too strong.
"Downstairs!" Applejack said. "C'mon, Rainbow. Tank, c'mon boy."
Rainbow turned and picked up Tank. The two made their way down to the basement, turning off some of the lights upstairs to try and reduce the chance of losing power. The girls closed the basement door and went into the storm shelter.
Rainbow Dash our Tank down on the floor and went over to the inflatable bed. She sat down, looking up at Applejack.
"So we just wait it out?" She asked.
Applejack turned to her.
"Ah guess so."
She handed Rainbow her phone and charger.
"Here." She said. "Thank goodness you had it chargin' while you were asleep."
Rainbow looked at the time. 3:12pm. She should've still been taking a nap by now. Rainbow looked around the shelter. She sighed and laid back on the bed.
"I hate waiting." She complained. "I wanna go see what's going on up there. It would be so cool to see a tornado, don't you think?"
Applejack gave her a look.
"No way, no how. Rainbow, that is the craziest idea you've had in a long time."
Rainbow groaned.
"But it's so boring. Entertain me, peasant!"
Applejack rolled her eyes.
"Fine. What do you wanna do that doesn't involve leaving this room?"
Rainbow thought for a moment.
"Well I'd ask you to read to me, but we don't have a book."
Applejack suddenly smiled.
"Actually, we do." She said.
Applejack went over to a shelf and picked up a book from it. She showed it to Rainbow. Rainbow Dash smiled brightly.
"A Daring Do book!!" She exclaimed. "Read it to me, AJ. Can you?? Please, could you?" She begged.
Applejack walked over to the bed and sat down. The two got comfortable, snuggling under the blanket. Applejack opened to the first page.
"Chapter 1....."
Applejack knew she did all this to make herself feel better. But reading to her girlfriend was something they both enjoyed. The girls spent the duration of the storm reading, their minds far from the threat outside. Applejack was enjoying spending time Rainbow Dash, doing something that made them both happy. It also made her feel better than she could focus on anything but the tornado.
She knew they were ok. They were safe and sound. With Rainbow in her arms and safe, Applejack could rest easy. She didn't know how long they'd be down there, the radio on, to keep them updated on the storm's progress. However, she didn't allow herself to worry too much. As long as they were safe and together, the tornado was not a threat to her.
Let the storm pass.
So that was a thing. Comment what you think :)
