A Rainbow Chicken

I have the chicken pox, so i decided to write about it. So now Rainbow Dash has it. Enjoy :)

Rainbow had barely noticed it. Those tiny, itchy red spots on her stomach. Rainbow stared at her reflection. She was stripped down, preparing to take a shower, when she had looked in the mirror to check on what the itchy area looked like.

Rainbow deeply frowned. She scowled unhappily.

"Aww man. Not a mosquito bite. I hate those." She muttered to herself.

She scratched at it, making a mental note to put rubbing alcohol on it after her shower. She'd be going to bed soon, anyways. She took a warm shower. Using the loofa to scratch her skin. The body soap had aloe in it and it soothed the skin a little.

Leaving the bathroom in her pajamas, Rainbow felt much better. She entered the bedroom. Applejack was already in bed, scrolling on her phone.

"Hey, AJ. I got bit by a bug and it itches." Rainbow Dash complained, flopping onto the bed.

Applejack looked up from her phone. She raised a curious eyebrow.

"Lemme see." She said, sitting up.

Rainbow rolled over onto her back, lifting up her shirt. Applejack examined the red patch of dots.

"Huh. Maybe it's a rash." She guessed. "That's weird. Try not to scratch it, so it don't bleed."

Rainbow Dash huffed.

"But it's itchy." She pouted.

Applejack chuckled. The two of them turned off the light and got into bed. Rainbow laid on her stomach, snuggling her pillow. Applejack was rubbing her stomach, not quite getting rid of the burning itch but soothing it enough. Rainbow was eventually lulled to sleep.
———————

The feeling of itchiness woke her up. Rainbow rubbed her leg against the sheets, trying to make it stop. It didn't. Rainbow rubbed her eyes, lifting her head off the pillow. It was still dark out, not even sunrise yet. Rainbow Dash cursed under her breath, sitting up in the bed. She could feel the warmth of Applejack next to her. She could also feel her thighs, stomach and back on fire.

Rainbow Dash scratched at her skin, her blunt, short nails not doing much to help. She paused when she started to notice a bumpy texture on her skin where she scratched at. Moving her fingers over the skin, she felt tiny bumps all over her body.

"What the heck?" She said out loud.

Rainbow got out of bed, exiting the room. She went down the hall to the bathroom. Flicking on the lights, Rainbow was straight to the body mirror. Her eyes widened when she saw herself. Peeking out from underneath her shorts. She could see angry red dots covering her stomach, hips, thighs. Rainbow looked down at her body. She then noticed the same on her arms and the backs of her hands.

What were these? An allergic reaction? Hives?

Rainbow Dash had no idea what was going on. All she knows is that it itches. Everywhere.
Rushing back to the bedroom, Rainbow turned on the light, wincing at the brightness. She walked over to Applejack's side of the bed. Rainbow gently shook her.

"Hey, AJ. Wake up." She quietly said.

Applejack stirred, her face scrunching up.

"Hmm? Wha..?"

Applejack opened her eyes, squinting due to the sudden brightness of the room. Shielding her eyes, she propped herself up.

"What time is it?" She asked. "What's the matter?"

"I think I have something wrong with me." Rainbow replied. "The itching is everywhere. I look like a freak."

That seemed to wake Applejack up. She sat up, taking a good look at Rainbow Dash. Rainbow showed her her arms and legs. Applejack grew concerned the more she saw.

"Babe. This don't look like a rash. Does it hurt?"

Rainbow shook her head.

"Nope. Just itchy."

Applejack hummed, thinking for a moment.

"How about we go see your doctor later on?"

Rainbow agreed. They'd have to wait a few hours since most people in Canterlot were asleep. She wasn't sure she's be able to fall asleep again, but there wasn't anything else they could do.

"Fine." She sighed.

She turned the lights back off and the couple got back into bed. Rainbow did her best to ignore the uncomfortable burning on her skin, resisting the urge to scratch at it. She could only smack or rub at the itchy areas, doing whatever to just make it stop. Applejack eventually decided to go get the anti-itch cream from their medicine cabinet. Lathering on the cream, Rainbow did find some relief and managed to sleep a few more hours.

When she woke up again, the sun was up and Applejack was gone. The faint smell of food answered the question of where AJ went. Rainbow yawned and stretched. She got out of bed and headed downstairs. Entering the kitchen, Rainbow was greeted with the sight of Applejack by the stove, making grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast. Rainbow leaned against the doorway, grinning.

"Have I ever told you you're the best?" She asked.

Applejack looked over at her. She smiled, focusing on the food once again.

"Yup. Many times, babe. Go on and sit down. I called the clinic  and got cha an appointment tomorrow ta get cha checked out."

Rainbow remembered her issue suddenly. Looking down at her body, Rainbow noticed the amount of dots on her skin had increased, covered her whole body.

"Oh my gosh! I look so stupid!" She exclaimed.

Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash, her eyes roaming over her person. Applejack's brows scrunched together.

"That looks worse than it did earlier." She commented. "I hope it ain't an allergic reaction to somethin'. It is allergy season, but you've never had this happen."

They ate their breakfast and then got ready to go. Rainbow took longer than usually because the irritation was so bad, she had to stop and use her clothing to scrub against the skin, not wanting to use her nails. Applejack helped her apply lotion to the skin to keep the skin from becoming dry.

They drove down to the clinic. It was pretty empty, it being noon on a school day, and so most people were at work or school. Rainbow was seen almost immediately, while Applejack waited for her in the waiting room. The nurse that was taking her vitals asked her some questions. She examined her spots on Rainbow Dash.

"That... looks like chicken pox, I think".

Rainbow was taken aback. That couldn't be true. Chicken pox? Like, the chicken pox. The childhood illness you see on tv, that sounds like most annoying type of illness out there.

"Hmm. That looks like the chicken pox." The doctor noted.

Rainbow's eyes widened. What?

"What? The chicken pox? What the fuck?"

The nurse crossed her arms, lost in thought.

"I'll just let the doctor know and see what they have to say."

As if on cue. There was a knock on the door. The nurse opened it. The doctor walked in, greeting Rainbow Dash with a smile. The nurse let them know of what they thought about Rainbow's condition. The doctor took one look at Rainbow Dash and the rash on her.

"Seems like it, yeah. Let me see your back."

The doctor looked all over Rainbow's body.

"Were you vaccinated for it?" They asked.

Rainbow had to text Strike, since she couldn't remember. He confirmed that she had. Rainbow nodded.

"Yeah, and I don't remember getting it as a kid."

Chicken pox? Of all the things she could get, it had to be the chicken pox. The most cartoonish illness. Just her luck.

The doctor was sure that was it.

"Yup. It's on your back, legs, arms, stomach. Definitely the chicken pox."

The doctor sat down by their computer, typing it all down.

"Not much we can do about that, but I do recommend getting an oatmeal bath and Calamine lotion to soothe the itching and bathe in warm water. Not hot water. Of course don't scratch it because it might cause infection if it bleeds. Stay away from small kids and generally others until you're completely cleared. I recommend stay as cool as possible, and wear loose clothing so you don't irritate them. Drink lots of fluid. You might get a fever and body aches. You might feel sluggish and have trouble sleeping. If you get a fever of over 102, then you go to the hospital. Okay?"

Rainbow nodded.

"Thanks."

The doctor smiled at her.

"No problem. Hope you feel better soon."

Rainbow left the exam room. She got her check-out papers and walked back to the waiting room. Applejack was sitting there on her phone. Walking up to Applejack, Rainbow Dash nudged her with her shoe, getting her attention. Applejack looked up.

"Hey. You ready?"

Rainbow nodded. "Yup. Let's go."

The two left the clinic, getting into AJ's truck. Rainbow shut her side door. She screamed in exasperation, making Applejack jump in surprise.

"What's wrong?" AJ asked. "What did they tell ya?"

Rainbow looked at her girlfriend, a deadpanned expression on her face.

"The chicken pox."

That was clearly not what either of them had expected. Applejack's jaw slightly dropped.

"Really? Are you serious?"

Rainbow nodded. "Yeah. The doc said it. I have to stay away from people, try not to scratch, put anti-itch cream-"

"Yeah, don't worry 'bout that." AJ cut her off. "I already know what ya need. Applebloom got it when she was a baby. I've had it before, so I'll be fine around ya."

Applejack suddenly laughed.

"Aww, Sugarcube. I feel darn awful for ya. Chicken pox ain't fun."

Rainbow glared at her.

"Clearly! I'm itchy!"

They stopped by the pharmacy on the way home. Applejack bought some oatmeal bath treatment and some Tylenol. When they got home, Rainbow took a bath with the oatmeal. It was good for the skin, so Applejack joined her. This gave them a chance to look all over Rainbow. The pox were everywhere. Like, everywhere.

It ached to bathe herself because the chicken pox had spread to her fingers, making touching her hands slightly painful. Applejack, used to having take care of her little sister had no issue with helping her girlfriend in bathing. Rainbow was blushing and avoiding eye contact the whole time. She was muttering under her breath about how embarrassing it was to need her girlfriend's help to bathe herself like a child.

Applejack rolled her eyes.

"It's nothing to be ashamed of. Plus, if we plan on spendin' the rest of our lives together, you'll have ta get used to us takin' care of each other when we're older. So no better time ta start than now. Goodness knows you need my help while you're sick."

Rainbow flicked water at her, an annoyed expression on her face. AJ only laughed.
————————

The first few days weren't so bad. Rainbow stayed home, mostly sleeping or watching tv. Applejack had let their friends and immediate family members know what was going on so they could stay away if they hadn't gotten chicken pox or the vaccine before. Pinkie Pie brought over some soup for Rainbow Dash. The girls stuck around while Applejack was at work to keep Rainbow company. They binge-watched movies. Fluttershy, being Rainbow Dash's life-long best friend and had seen Rainbow Dash naked multiple times growing up, had the job of regularly applying the ointment to Rainbow's hard to reach and hard to see places.

Rainbow stopped complaining about being covered in red itchy spots as the days went by. She sometimes forgot about her illness until she looked down at her arms and saw her skin again. It was still unbelievable that she got it, especially as a young adult.

Strike had come over for a visit at some point. Rainbow tried to kill him when he laughed and teased her about her situation. She eventually just flopped onto the couch and whined about it all. This was something she wasn't going to forget anytime soon once this was over.
————————

That week had to be the slowest week ever. Rainbow was in itchy agony through most of it, and into the next week. She thought that this would be it, and it would go away and be over. However, one night, Rainbow Dash woke up. Her body was shaking because of the amount of itchiness. It burned. Rainbow's head felt heavy and she was shivering like crazy even though her legs were covered in sweat. Rainbow rolled her lazily, curling up into a ball, clutching the comforter around her. It hurt to move, but she felt a percent more comfortable.

Needing some kind of comfort, Rainbow reached out and grabbed Applejack's hand. She snuggled the arm, the feeling of having her lover close soothed her emotional suffering. This seemed to stir Applejack.

Applejack rolled over so she was facing Rainbow Dash, coming out of her sleep. Blinking her eyes open, AJ grumbled.

"Yeah, baby? What's up?"

AJ rubbed the sleep from her eyes and looked at Rainbow properly.

"I don't feel good." Rainbow mumbled. "Hold me."

Applejack frowned. She felt Rainbow's forehead with the back of her hand. She sat up quickly, pulling her hand away.

"Oh my gosh, Rainbow. I think you've got a fever. Let me go get the thermometer."

Applejack left the room to fetch the thermometer. Rainbow lied in bed, staring blankly at the wall. A chill ran through her. Rainbow pulled the blanket tighter around herself, curling up in a ball. She was prepared to just perish right then and there. What kind of fuckery was this? Now she was itchy, sweaty and cold.

Footsteps caught her attention. She weakly moved her head to look towards the doorway of the room. A few seconds later, Applejack walked in, the oral plastic thermometer in hand. Applejack sat on the edge of the bed, holding up the stick.

"Under your tongue." She instructed.

Rainbow Dash had a fever of 100.5, which wasn't too bad, but still not a good thing. Applejack looked at her with sympathy.

"How would you like it if I made you a milkshake? With ice cream?"

Rainbow nodded.

"With peanut butter?" She requested hopefully.

Applejack chuckled.

"Whatever you want, baby. Wanna sit on the couch while I make it?"

Rainbow nodded. She sat up, wincing. She stretched her sore limbs for a bit before Applejack scooped her up and carried her to the living room. Rainbow watched some tv while AJ was in the kitchen. Applejack came back with two cups of chocolate milkshake. The two cuddled on the couch while they drank.

The ice cream helped Rainbow cool down internally. When they went back to bed, AJ made sure to prepare an ice pack for Rainbow. Rainbow had it resting on her forehead for a little while she lied on her back, eyes closed. If not for Applejack, she would've fallen asleep with it on. Applejack also made her take liquid medicine for her fever. It was fruit flavored so it wasn't awful. Wasn't too much longer before Rainbow was knocked out for the rest of the night.
————————

The medicine was stronger than they'd realized, because Rainbow slept until nearly four in the afternoon that day. Applejack was concerned and woke her up. Rainbow was groggy and quiet. Applejack made her eat something. Homemade soup. Something easy on the stomach and healthy. You can almost never go wrong with soup when you're sick. Rainbow Dash was clearly unwell, moving slowly and seemed to have to think before every action. She had her favorite travel blanket wrapped around her shivering form. She looked absolutely miserable.

So, Applejack decided to call in their friends. They came in prepared. Movies, snacks, games. Pinkie used their oven to bake some sweets. Not even a sick Rainbow could turn down Pinkie's baking. Her mood improved as the afternoon went by, glad that she didn't have to spend hours laying in bed, in silence. Having the whole group together, made it feel like a normal non-sick day.

Even Sunset joked that Rainbow was turning into a chicken. Pinkie ran with that joke.

"What of those spots are where the feathers will grow?"

Rainbow giggled, rolling her eyes.

"I doubt that'll happen." She replied. "But if it happens, don't cook me."

She playfully glared at Applejack. Applejack smirked.

"Nah. If you turn into a chicken, you might get salmonella and I ain't risking eating infected food. You can die of natural causes. I'll even build ya a chicken coop, like the ones on the farm my granny lives on."

Rainbow stuck her tongue out at her, which was returned. Rainbow leaned against Applejack, grumbling under her breath.

"If I turn into a chicken, I'll bite you. I'd be an awesome chicken."

Rainbow curled in her spot, resting her head in AJ's lap. Applejack noticed this change of energy. She gently carded her fingers through the colorful strands of hair. It sealed the deal for Rainbow. She was snoring in no time, knowing she was in good hands.

So yeah. Just a little something I came up with lol I haven't had a fever during this whole week, but I just read that you can get a fever with the chicken pox, so I decided to add it for content XD lemme know what you think
