Rainbow walked down the dock. She was going out for a swim. Though noone could know she was there. She never swam in front of people. Ever.

You see, Rainbow had a secret. She was half mermaid. Whenever she went into the water, she had gils on her sides. She would have patches of scales on her legs. Also, she could breath underwater.

Everyday she went to the dock and swam out to sea. She was very careful not to be seen.

Rainbow made it. She had her bathing suit on. She looked around a minute to seen if anyone was around. Noone was there. She dove into the water.

She could feel her eyes and body adjusting to her surroundings. She was free to swim. She swam out to sea.

With her power she could swim really fast. The teen swam past fish and other sea creatures.

She swam to a coral reef and sat down. She looked around the water, her hair floating around in the water.
She felt totally at home.

"Hey", she heard a voice. She jumped. Never did she ever expect to here another voice besides herself here.

Rainbow turned around. Her eyes widened. There before her......was a mermaid. The girl looked about her age. She had blonde hair and tan skin. Bright green eyes looked at her.

"How are you doin that??", she asked in a thick accent. "How are ya underwater??".

Rainbow stared at her for a moment.

"I uh......I'm half mermaid".

The mermaid's eyes widened. She swam around Rainbow, lookimg her over. Rainbow had to admit. She was beautiful.

"Ah though half mermaids didn't exist", she said.

"Well here I am", Rainbow said shrugging.

"I'm Rainbow Dash", she said.

"Applejack".

Applejack smiled. "So. How did ya manage ta become half mermaid??".

Rainbow sighed. "My dad was a scientist. He always had some crazy experiment. He did an experiment on me a few years back and I turned into this. He's the only one that knows about me".

Applejack sat down beside her. The blonde looked at her.

"Ah've never seen ah human this close before".

Rainbow smiled. "Well I've never seen a mermaid before. Do you ever go out of the water??".

Applejack shook her head.

"No. Ah can't breathe air".

Rainbow frowned. "Oh".

Applejack looked at her. "So how long can ya stay underwater??".

"A few hours. Then it gets harder to breathe".

"Wanna hang out fir a while??", Applejack asked.

Rainbow smiled. "I think I'd like that".

The two became best friends. As the months went by the girls had fallen for eachother. They were very similar. They liked the same things, both could be underwater. They were basically personality twins.Applejack told Rainbow about things in the mermaid world and Rainbow did the same with the human world. Rainbow even got to meet a few other mermaids. They liked her right away.

Eventually they both confessed their feelings for eachother. They started dating and couldnt be happier. Rainbow would come and see Applejack everyday. She didn't tell her dad.

Rainbow sighed sadly.

Applejack frowned. "What's wrong??".

Rainbow looked at her. "How are we gunna last??. You can't come up to the surface and I can't keep coming here everyday".

Rainbow pushed herself off the rock. She floated in the water.

"People are gunna start to notice. Then one day they're gunna find out my secret and I'll be locked up. You won't even know and then I'll never see you again".

Applejack laughed. "Woah woah. Slow down".

Rainbow looked away.

"That ain't gonna happen. Look at me".

Rainbow looked at the blonde mermaid.

"That is not gunna happen ya hear??. Ah would never let anyone take you away from me. And we can make this work".

She took Rainbow's hands in hers.

"Ah don't care if we can't see eachother as much. As long as we love eachother, that's enough. We'll find ah way when the time comes. When things get tough we'll deal with it then. Fir now, let's just worry about noone knowin' your secret in the human world".

Rainbow smiled. Applejack always knew what to say.

"Alright".

Applejack was right. They would figure it out. After all, Rainbow hid her mermaid half of herself easily. If she could do that, then with Applejack, she could handle anything.
