THE KIND DEVIL
Chapter 1: An Unearthly Encounter
In the peaceful and quaint town of Nestle, where life flowed in harmony with the rhythms of the seasons, there lived a young boy named Peter. He had always been a diligent and obedient child, raised within the boundaries of societal rules and laws that guided the lives of the townsfolk.
One day, as Peter was walking along the road that connected the town to the vast farm fields, he noticed something unusual. Underneath the sturdy bridge that spanned the gentle river, he spotted a small figure sitting in the shadows. Intrigued and curious, he approached the figure cautiously, his steps echoing in the quietude of the surroundings.
As he drew nearer, his eyes widened with astonishment, for the figure he saw was unlike anything he had ever encountered. The being was not a human child, as Peter had initially assumed. Instead, its skin was an otherworldly shade of bright red, and atop its head, two small horns protruded, curving gently upward.
"A devil?" Peter exclaimed in fear, his voice quivering as he took in the peculiar sight before him.
The strange being, who had been sitting in contemplative silence, turned its head to regard Peter with a calm and curious expression. Its eyes, though foreign in appearance, held a deep and gentle intelligence.
"I'm hungry," the being said in a soft and plaintive voice, its words breaking the eerie silence beneath the bridge. "Can you give me food?"
Peter's heart raced with a mixture of fear and uncertainty. The legends he had heard as a child had painted devils as malevolent and dangerous creatures, and now, confronted with what appeared to be one, his instincts urged him to flee.
"I can't give you food because you are the devil," Peter stammered, his fear causing his voice to tremble.
The being, still gazing at Peter with its enigmatic eyes, seemed genuinely puzzled by the boy's assertion. "Why do you think I'm a devil?" it inquired, its voice carrying a note of confusion.
Chapter 2: Confronting Prejudice
Peter stood before the peculiar being, his heart pounding in his chest. He had been raised on stories and tales that painted creatures with red skin and horns as devils, malevolent and dangerous entities. It was a deeply ingrained belief he had carried with him since childhood.
"Because we are told that a creature that has red skin and horns on its head is a devil," Peter replied, his words carrying the weight of tradition and prejudice.
A flicker of sadness crossed the being's face. "So I'm a devil just because of my appearance and not because of my character?" he asked, his voice tinged with sorrow.
Peter hesitated, caught between the teachings of his society and the reality before him. Fear still held him in its grip, and he made a choice. "Yes, you are a devil. Go away," he said before turning and fleeing from the bridge.
Terrified, he rushed home, calling out for his parents and recounting the encounter with the being beneath the bridge. His parents, too, were bound by the same beliefs, and they responded with a mixture of concern and fear.
Together, they decided that the town must be warned of this "devil" lurking beneath the bridge. Rumors spread like wildfire, and soon, the entire town was consumed by fear and prejudice.
Days turned into weeks, and the being beneath the bridge remained an outcast, his presence a symbol of society's rigid judgments. The young boy, Peter, couldn't shake the memory of that encounter, wondering if he had judged too quickly.
In a town named Nestle, a young boy's fear had the power to shape the destiny of an innocent being, revealing the profound impact that preconceived notions and prejudice could have on a community's heart.
Chapter 3: A Town in Peril
The encounter with the peculiar being had left a lasting impact. The townspeople, deeply entrenched in their beliefs, had driven the being away, causing it to seek refuge far from the town's borders.
However, the peaceful existence of Nestle was about to be shattered by an unforeseen and horrific event-the arrival of the notorious Western Barbarians.
The Barbarians were known throughout the region for their ruthless attacks on villages and nearby towns. They had left a trail of destruction and despair in their wake, capturing settlements at the border and subjecting them to unspeakable horrors.
Nestle, nestled along the border, had long felt a sense of security in the belief that their idyllic town was untouched by the savagery of the Barbarians. But on that fateful day, their illusions were shattered as the Barbarians descended upon them like a merciless storm.
The Barbarians, fierce and menacing, stormed the town with bloodlust in their eyes. Chaos erupted as they slaughtered men, terrorized women, and left no distinction between innocence and guilt. Houses were set ablaze, and the once-peaceful streets echoed with the agonized cries and desperate pleas of the townsfolk.
The horrific onslaught sent shockwaves throughout the region, and even those miles away could hear the dreadful cacophony that marked the town's descent into chaos.
Chapter 4: A Fateful Reunion
As the sounds of chaos and devastation echoed across the once-tranquil town of Nestle, the peculiar being who had been unfairly judged and driven away found himself far from the town's borders. Yet, despite the distance, his keen hearing ability allowed him to hear the agonized cries of the townsfolk carried on the wind.
Without hesitation, he rushed back toward the town, driven by a deep sense of empathy and responsibility. As he approached the outskirts, a harrowing sight met his eyes-the beautiful town of Nestle had been transformed into a nightmarish landscape of destruction and despair.
The being walked through the once-familiar streets, passing by houses that were now smoldering ruins. Everywhere he turned, he found only devastation and signs of a brutal massacre. The Barbarians had shown no mercy, leaving no one unscathed.
Desperate to find survivors and offer aid, the being continued to search. He moved from house to house, his heart heavy with each new discovery of lifeless bodies and the eerie silence that now pervaded the town.
In a narrow alley tucked away from the main thoroughfare, the being's acute hearing picked up a faint sound-soft, plaintive sniffles that cut through the haunting stillness.
"Sniff, sniff," came the heart-wrenching cries.
Following the sound, the being approached a modest little house at the end of the alley. As he entered, his eyes fell upon a heart-rending scene. There, amidst the wreckage, lay a young boy, the very same boy he had encountered beneath the bridge not so long ago.
Tears streamed down the child's face as he sobbed uncontrollably, his small frame wracked with grief and fear. Beside him, in unconscious stillness, lay the boy's parents, victims of the Barbarians' ruthless onslaught.
Moved by compassion, the being knelt beside the young boy and gently placed a comforting hand on his trembling shoulder. The boy's tear-filled eyes met those of the peculiar being, and in that moment, fear and prejudice were replaced by desperation for help and understanding.
Chapter 5: Lessons Learned
Peter's tears flowed freely as he tried to find words to explain the horrors he had witnessed.
"What happened here?" the little being asked, his voice filled with confusion and concern.
Amidst his sobs, the young boy, Peter, managed to utter a plea for help. "Hick, my parents, please help us," he implored.
"But I am the devil," the little being pointed out, still struggling to understand Peter's trust in him, given the town's ingrained beliefs. "Why would you ask a devil for help?" he inquired curiously.
Peter's response was simple and heartfelt. "I don't know," he admitted through tears, his voice trembling with vulnerability.
Without further hesitation, the little being resolved to help Peter in any way he could. With a gentle and caring touch, he lifted the unconscious parents, one by one, and carried them to another town, far from the devastation that had befallen Nestle. Though the little being possessed only a fraction of the strength required, he was driven by a deep sense of responsibility and compassion.
Upon reaching the new town, he sought out a skilled doctor who could tend to the injured parents. Weeks passed, marked by the tireless efforts of the medical practitioner. Miraculously, the boy's parents began to regain their strength, their lives narrowly escaping the clutches of death.
As they lay in their recovery, they heard the story of how their lives had been saved, not by an angel or a saint, but by the very being they had once unfairly labeled a devil.
Overwhelmed by shame and remorse, the parents sought forgiveness from the little being. They expressed their deep regret for having judged him solely based on his appearance, a prejudice that had nearly cost them their lives.
With a forgiving heart, the little being accepted their apologies. His words were filled with wisdom and grace as he gently admonished them, "Next time, don't judge anyone by their appearance, but try to know them before you treat them unjustly"
