Chapter Three
On the road again, my lovely readers!
Chapter Three: Unveiling the Truth
Point of View: Zianthos
Zachariah is Zeus's son, I am Poseidon's son, Jarren was a mortal, Sirius is a son of Dionysus, Marshall is a son of Demeter, Lau is a child of Hades, Frederick is a child of Athena, Benjamin is a son of Nemesis, Wisthman is a son of Iris, Ishron is a child of Hephaestus, Deni is a son of Morpheus, Gen is a son of Hypnos, Senna is a child of Ares, and Hycu is a child of Hermes.
The three of us walk out of the tent and I walk over to the others with Zach while Apollo waits by the tent. I stand at the helm of the small force of Hunters. I sigh. "So, here's how it's going to happen. Lord Apollo is going to flash in and I will flash us in. We are to stay as quiet as possible and remain undetected for however long we can. No sudden moves or any noise. Amongst their normal arguments they might not notice us at first. Once they realize we are there, that's it. Do not let them get anything on who you were originally."
They all nod. "Don't you look like the usual son of Poseidon?" Ishron asks curiously.
I shake my head. "No, I look more like my father than the others."
They all look closer at me now. "Oh, I guess you do. It's been forever since I have seen the sea god." Senna says.
I roll my eyes. "Yes, but it's why the others will immediately think I am Percy Jackson if they see me, especially my father."
"Where will we go once this conflict is over?" Gen asks.
"We will be monitored as much as possible at Zeus's command. But we can remain hidden like we always have. It will draw a lot on our lord though. We must stay in contact with the gods from now on once we do this." I explain.
"Does that mean we have to visit the camps like the Huntresses and Lady Artemis do?" Deni complains.
"Yes, it does. At least, that is when the shock is gone." Apollo comes over and slings and arm over one of my shoulders and leans on me. "Capture the Flag when we visit, staying in the Apollo cabin, and roaming with me like we hardly have time for. Once they know the truth, they should leave me be." Apollo tells us.
"Are you sure about that my lord?" Deni asks.
"Aren't you also their main doctor?" Senna questions.
"Both Lady Artemis and Lord Apollo have the healing domain. They have forgotten this because of our lord. He does this to give her freedom. Do not speak of it." I say.
They all look at me and nod. "Should we tell them that Apollo also has the domain of hunting?" Zach asks uncertainly.
"Will it not be enough that we are being revealed for them to figure it out?" I answer with a question of my own. "The twins share all domains except for the fact that Apollo is sun and Artemis is moon. They both have light, knowledge, hunting, healing, archery. They have kept some secret and both are unhindered by Ancient Laws. Apollo acts so that Artemis may be free. Artemis acts along with him, doing her part. She has gained reputations which are untrue. Those Huntresses did not keep their secrets from her, they asked to leave or actually died in the line of duty. Artemis had to tell them false stories and always asked for their permission, never using their real names. Keeping the other gods in the dark. Remember not to mention any of the sort around those kept out of this secret. Zeus would kill his children if provoked hard enough or at the very least, imprison them. And us and the Huntresses along with them. Forever sealed away. He knows he needs us, yet he doesn't think in the moment. It is why the council exists, but most have become corrupted and wish to see what Zeus would do for their own amusement. Lady Artemis, Lady Hestia, Lord Hades, and Lady Demeter are our best bets on level headed thinking. The others have succumbed to nothing."
"And Lord Poseidon?" Senna asks me.
I shake my head. "I fear he is too far along in his sadness as of now to help in this kind of situation. I should know better, but the years have worn against him and he is losing."
"Then show yourself to him." Wisthman exclaims.
I stare at him and sigh. "It would be too late. The sea is all but dead underneath the surface. Let me show you." I whisper and they all go wide eyed.
They all follow me to the sea's edge and I stand right next to the water. "Zeus has kept the true appearance from the mortals and I always feel it roiling off. This is not what the sea looks like." I wave my hand over the waters and it turns pitch black, marine life floating upon the surface, and vultures eating the remains.
They all gasp and Apollo looks at the ground.
"The sea is so devastated and it is my fault. Seeing me would either worsen my father or help him only slightly. It will not heal this kind of damage. Closure would only kill him. It's why I leave him be." I say quietly.
I feel a hand on my shoulder and look to see Frederick. "But together you could heal it completely. Admit it. You are so powerful you could do it on your own. Before, you were the most powerful demigod to ever live. Now, you exceed even an Olympian's power and you aren't even a minor god. You're a minor immortal like the rest of us. We don't come near to matching your power." He tells me fervently.
"Which is all the more reason Zeus will want us dead. And it's going to be all my fault...again." I look down.
His grip on my shoulder tightens. "Nothing is your fault. Don't blame yourself. It's going to get you killed. It's your fatal flaw's ugly side. Letting you think yourself into this gods awful depression. They died in battle and that witch deserves to find no happiness like she has with that wretch of a fire child, no offense Ishron."
"None taken." Ishron replies.
"Look, do you want to see the ocean like this?" Frederick asks kindly. I shake my head. "Then let Lord Poseidon know you are still here. Lord Hades knows you are alive and reassures your father but not finding you is doing this. It's not your fault, and Poseidon knows that. He'll forgive you for being in hiding. He will know why you did it. Like you said, you are more like him than we know." He grins.
I blink at him and then smile a little. "Yes, I am an exact replica of my father. Other than I am not a god and I have less power. Sometimes it worries me. I do not want my age to affect the way I perceive things. However, I'm afraid it has already happened. I've lost that playful side I used to radiate all the time."
"It's still there, if only a little bit. Annabeth took it away." Apollo says and then freezes.
"Annabeth did take it away from me and it was never really there in the first place." I nod. "That was the facade I used to stay alive. It's another reason for the guilt I probably shouldn't feel. But nonetheless, I miss that side anyway. The others would understand and it was smarter than you think."
"I can't believe you knew everything and even helped your mother with that at such a young age." Apollo chuckles and shakes his head.
"I still can't believe you and Athena didn't tell your father." I laugh. "I thought I was obvious. My father already knew, him I expected to keep it from Zeus."
"Mist using at that age is remarkable and holding back almost your entire life is even more surprising." Gen laughs with me.
"Maybe..." I say. I look at the sea again and scrutinize what I should do.
"Go to him. We still have some time left." Apollo says kindly.
I shake my head and they all start but I cut them all off. "It's not that I'm not going to. I will. But there is something you all need to think about. If I show myself beforehand, Zeus will be suspicious of him knowing about it and will start an all new rivalry. Yes, sensing me in that room will make him come after me once the meeting is over and I will either be forced into showing him in a bad situation if anyone is watching. I'm wondering which would be the wiser decision."
"I see what you mean. Go now and explain that he must be cautious at the meeting. Do not let his happiness show, keep the sea like this, act like sensing you gives him hope, that way if after he inquires about you to one of the others they don't destroy that hope if you don't go before." Apollo tells me.
I nod slowly. "And if he cannot?"
"I will explain everything to my father about Poseidon and you, without mentioning your old name." Apollo assures me.
"Very well." I sigh. "What to say to the old man, eh? He has never been one to hide things from. Oh well, guess I'll say something when it comes down to it." I shrug and look at the sea. I step into it and let my presence seep into it a little bit. The vultures fly away, some of the fish are able to stay alive in the water around me, swimming around me to keep in the purified water trail I make, and the sea starts to glow. "Heal." I whisper to it and the light becomes brighter.
I turn back to my family. "It will not take long." And I dive into the dying ocean's depths.
