Nico liked working alone, hard to do when he gets pared with the newbie.

Trigger warnings: getting shot, getting kidnapped (tied up and gagged), description of a murder (not super detailed), dead person, calling yourself stupid? Cut on your head, guns, held at gun point.

Nico's pov...

Nico liked his life, sure it was dangerous at times and he's almost died over a thousand times. Nico was a detective, he was able to see things that normal people couldn't. That made him a target sometimes, but he could get out of things easily...

"YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!" nico exclaimed. He had just gotten news from his boss that he was going to be having a partner. The partner being a newbie

"I think it'll be good for you di Angelo." his boss told him, "you need more social interaction. Im sure the newbie will help with that."

"I don't need social interaction! I like working alone." nico said.

"Well you wont be anymore. Solace is waiting outside. Go. i have a case for you." the boss ordered

The boss handed nico the case and nico cussed in italian and headed out the door. When he left the room he saw his new partner, william andrew solace (newbie) standing near nico's desk. Nico walked over to his desk and growled at will.

Will replied by waving and having a huge grin plastered on his freckle face, "hey! Im will. The boss said i was your new partner. Im excited to work with you!"

"That makes one of us." nico snarled, "wipe that grin off your face, you look ridiculous."

"Whats wrong with you?" will asked.

"I don't want no partner, especially a newbie, stinking up my business."

"Excuse me?" will questioned, "what makes you think you can talk to people like that."

Nico rolled his eyes, "we have a case, read it."

Nico shoved the case in wills arms and sat down at his desk. Will took the case and read through it. Will went to hand it back to nico and nico held up his hand.

"I like to look at the scene first and then the file." nico told him.

"Why?" will asked curious.

"I like to get a clear picture first, see what i can figure out for myself." nico answered, he stood up and made his way out of the building, "lets go newbie."

Will rushed behind nico, they both got into a car and drove to the scene.

When nico and will arrived at the scene they got out of the car. Nico slammed his door and walked over to the evidence.

There was a body on the ground, it had a gunshot in chest three of them. nico bent down and looked closer at the body. It was a thirty year old adult. He had brown hair and a small beard. Nico looked around the body. He saw the gun near the mans hand. Nico suddenly felt someone near him

"What do you think?" nico heard will ask.

"He was killed at around twelve." nico answered.

"How do you know that?!" will asked.

"The way the blood dried." nico told him.

"It was a man who killed him." nico said.

"How do you know that?!" will exclaimed, "theres no evidence of it."

Nico pointed to foot prints near the body, "those are number nine men shoes. So pretty good guess that its a guy, plus the way the prints are show its a guy."

Will raised his eyebrows impressed, "wow, you can tell all that just by a few minutes."

Nico nodded, nico took out his phone and snapped a picture of the shoe prints. He then stood up.

"Come on." nico told will.

"Where are going?" will asked.

Nico walked back to the car with will following behind, "we've got a shoe shop to visit."

"We're just going to visit every single shoe shop?" will said, "thats not possible."

"No, we just need to visit one." nico replied.

"How do we know thats the correct one?" will asked.

Nico rolled his eyes, "the prints. Its really obvious will, just look, please."

Nico held the picture in front of will, wills eyes widened in realization.

"Oh! The shoe's brand is on the bottom, 'shoes for life.' i cant belive i missed that."

Nico nodded, "it seems like most people did."

"Wow." will said, "how do you see all these things?"

Nico shrugged, "i just do."

Nico and will then headed off to the shoe store.

When they arrived at the shoe stop nico and will entered, the cashier standing at the counter greeted them with a smile.

"Hello." she said, "welcome to 'shoes for life.' can i help you with anything?"

Nico walked to the counter, "yeah, we need to know who recently bought a pair of number nine male shoes. Probably around a week ago."

"How do you know it was a week ago?" will asked.

The girl smiled, "im sorry, i cant give away any personal information to people."

Nico and will took out their badges and the girl nodded.

"Oh." she said, she started typing stuff on the computer, "let me check."

Will looked around the store while waiting.

"Hmm, looks like we had two people by those types of shoes." the girl told them.

"What are their names?" nico asked.

"I can write them down for you." the girl offered.

Nico nodded, "write down their address as well."

"Okay." the girl said.

She took out a notebook and wrote down the name and addresses of the two men who have bought the shoes.

"Thanks." will told the girl.

The two then left the shop and went to the first person's house.

The first person's name was arnold, nico did a background check on him, he was a professor at a college, he seemed like a nice guy, but nico would have the final say in that.

When they arrived at his house nico knocked on the door and it was opened by arnold.

"Hello?" arnold said.

Nico and will showed their badges and arnold let them in. nico started looking around the house while will was asking arnold questions, nico entered the bed room and dubbed arnold clear. There was no way this man could harm a fly, much less a human, he was way to jittery, the way he acted when they showed the badges let nico knew that right away.

Suddenly nico heard shouting and a door break in the other room. Nico took out his gun and ran to the living room, when he entered he saw that the front door had been kicked down, arnold was sitting on the couch, his arms were up in the air. Nico didn't see will anywhere.

Nico turned to arnold, "where is will?"

"They took him, they busted through the door and took him, they left this."

Arnold handed nico a note, nico read it, "nico di angelo, if you want your partner back you'll drop this case. Otherwise he'll become a part of the case."

Nico cussed in italian and dropped the note, he then got in his car and drove off.

Nico knew where these guys would take will. He should've known they would attack them, it was obvious, how could nico be so stupid?! Nico was speeding to catch will.

Nico arrived at the place where they found the body. He saw will tied up on the ground sitting crisscrossed apple sauced, he had tape over his mouth and a gash on his head. Will was looking at the two men. Wait two? Another mistake nico made, he didn't think it was a team. He should've, it was super obvious.

"Get out here di angelo!" a voice snapped, "we see you here."

Will looked up at nico, nico could tell will was scared. Nico couldn't blame him, will was the newbie meaning he didn't have experiences with this unlike nico. Nico shushed will and then stood up.

The two guys that had taken will took out guns and pointed it and nico, who just rolled his eyes at that.

"Put those down. We all know you're not winning this."

The men put a gun to wills head, "how about you put down your gun."

Nico rolled his eyes but put is gun down and threw it to the men, he put his hands up.

"Good." one of the men said.

Nico smirked and then charged towards will and his gun, he was about to reach will when he felt an intense pain in his gut...
