Confessions

The Dark Knight (mentions of events in the movie)

It had been a week since Bruce's long time friend, Rachel Dawes, got murdered by the Joker. A new face in Gotham, one that caused mayhem and terror wherever he went. He dressed in a purple coat, paint splattered all over his matching purple pants and his face covered in white paint with a jarring bring red smile painted on his lips.

A week since Harvey Dent's face got burnt on the side and he declared his hatred for Batman. A week since Evelyn decided to foolishly try and help Bruce.

Everything was going to plan, Bruce, in contact with Commissioner Gordon, was going to save Rachel, while GCPD would save Harvey. But, Evelyn knew GCPD was to far away, they wouldn't reach Harvey in time.

She could reach him though.

With that thought in mind, she drove off to the location given to them by the Joker, a timer counting down the minutes until the bomb went off. Evelyn thought she had time, she thought she still had two minutes to get into the building, yet when she arrived to the warehouse, it was too late. The building exploded as Evelyn ran up to the doors. Debris and flames licking up her body as her mind went blank.

It was pain for a while, then bright light. When she finally managed to clear her vision, Bruce and Alfred stood above her, a flashlight in her face.

"What happened? Are Rachel and Harvey okay?" Evelyn meekly asked, her voice raspy from dehydration and lack of use. Both men looked at each other before Bruce stormed away. Evelyn sent a confused look after him.

"Master Bruce was tricked, the Joker switched the locations. Harvey was at the warehouse Master Bruce went to, Miss Rachel was at the one you went to." Alfred solemnly spoke. Evelyn felt her eyes widen, the realization of Bruce's anger hitting her in the face.

"He is mad at me, because—because I was too late. I didn't save her, I wasn't fast enough." Evelyn felt her body shut down, her heart shredding to pieces at the fact of Bruce being upset with her. She couldn't lose the person she cared for with her whole heart. She couldn't be alone again.

That was a week ago, a week since the incident and Bruce still hasn't talked to her. He wouldn't even talk to Apollo when he was out in the streets of Gotham. He would just stay silent, never responding to the desperate Evelyn, no matter how much she tried to get him to talk.

Evelyn decided that night she was over the silent treatment. They weren't children, they were grown adults who stopped crime in Gotham City. They could talk out their feelings like adults. With that thought in mind, Evelyn started thinking about what to say to Bruce when he returned from patrol.

It was two hours before Bruce got back to the cave. His swift steps led him right past the awaiting Evelyn and straight towards the stairs.

"Oh hell no." Evelyn whispered, running after Bruce and catching his arm. She pulled his arm back until he was facing her, an annoyed look over Bruce's features.

"Look, I get it. You're mad at me, but at least talk to me when you're patrolling. You need the intel I give you, without it, you have no clue what you're walking into! It could be a trap! Or worse, a surprise attack with hundreds of thugs all wanting to kill you and you can't get out of it because you aren't talking to me and you could get seriously hurt and I would know—" Bruce placed his hand over Evelyn's mouth, promptly causing her words to stop spilling out of her.

"I listen to what you say." Bruce simply replies before turning back around and heading up the stairs to the lift. Evelyn stood frozen at the bottom, shocked at being brushed off. An overwhelming feeling of anger washed over Evelyn, and the next thing she knew, she was yelling at Bruce's back.

"Oh fuck you, Bruce Wayne! You can't stay mad at me forever. I get it, I fucked up! I couldn't save the her and now you hate me for it. Hate me all you want but at least let me know you're safe when you're out there, please." Evelyn felt her voice tremble towards the end of her sentence. Her worry and care woven into the words she spoke.

"I'm not mad you didn't save Rachel." Evelyn felt her brows scrunch together at Bruce's words.

"Then why are you? Because that's the only reason I can come up with." Bruce let out a sigh before turning around and walking down the few steps towards Evelyn.

Evelyn held her breath as Bruce stood so close to her she could smell him. He smelt of sweat and the rot of Gotham but underneath that held scents of allspice and musk, he smelt like the forest after a rainy day, something foreign to those living in Gotham.

"I am mad because you left. You went to the second location, a location which GCPD was on the way to. You put yourself at risk, and it was the hardest thing to see you buried under all that rubble. Your body riddled with cuts, bruises and blood. I have never felt so hopeless, so worthless when you just laid there, unmoving, knowing you went because Rachel was my friend. It was torture to wait for you to wake up, not knowing if you were okay or not. Knowing it's my job to keep you safe and I failed, terribly. That is why I am mad, Evelyn."

"Rachel was your best friend though. You can't tell me you didn't care for her, love her as a close companion."

"Of course I cared about her, she was my first friend but I care about you so much more. I don't care if that makes me a terrible person for admitting because I only care about you. The world could look at me in hatred and disgust and I wouldn't care because my eyes are focused on you and only you. Fuck Evelyn I don't even care when you call me Gloomy because it's your nickname for me. I could listen to you call me Gloomy, Bruce or even a fucking idiot because at least I know you're still with me. I've cared about you since the moment I saw you helping those who you owed nothing too. I only knew your name and found myself utterly powerless around you. I. Love. You." Bruce finished speaking, stern look in his eyes. He may lose you to this confession but you'd at least know that you are worth it, you're worth everything to him.

Evelyn didn't know what to say so she just went with the first thing she could think of. "Well you could have just said that from the beginning."

Bruce let out a soft chuckle as he gently grabbed Evelyn's hands. The hands that made his body ignite into flames while also making him feel like he was in the icy waters of Antarctica. He looked into her eyes, eyes the color of melted milk chocolate and found himself wanting to look into them for the rest of his life.

"I was scared you would leave if I told you. I would rather never tell you my feelings if it would mean you stayed by my side forever than tell you and risk you leaving. I just managed to find you, I didn't want to lose you." Bruce admitted, his arm slowly moving from her hands to wrap around her waist.

"Well, I would never leave the man who almost got me killed in the crossfire between him and his old assassin teacher." Evelyn retorted back, her arms slowly wrapping around Bruce's neck. Bruce let out a low laugh, one that made his eyes crinkle in the corner and lips turn up in happiness.

"I can't imagine what my life would be like as batman without you in it. Nor can I imagine the life of the newly returned Bruce Wayne without you. You are the reason I am able to smile, Evelyn. The reason I get up every morning and thank the heavens I get to be alive while you are. You are my everything, Evelyn Rosier." Evelyn felt tears in her eyes. A smile almost tearing her face in two.

"You're my everything to, Bruce. I'm glad I came to that party." Evelyn stared into Bruce's blue eyes. Crystal, like the water, and getting closer to her face.

"So am I." Bruce whispered, his lips lightly brushing against hers. Evelyn felt a smile spread across her face, her cheeks a pink color as Bruce kept his face close to hers.

"Is that all you got?" Evelyn cheekily mummers. Bruce smirked before crashing his lips onto hers. Evelyn felt her world explode into stars and fireworks as her lips worked against his. His lips were just as soft as she thought they would be although a bit chapped. She didn't mind though, not as long as his lips were on hers.

Bruce pulled Evelyn close into him, their bodies molding perfectly together as Evelyn pulled Bruce's cowl off. She didn't even realize he kept the cowl on their whole conversation, too caught up in their feelings to notice.

She ran her fingers through his black hair and slightly tugged near the roots. Bruce let out a groan as he slid his hands down to her thighs. Evelyn let out a gasp as his hands slid past her ass, giving a soft squeeze on the way down.

Using the access Bruce pushed his tongue into her awaiting mouth. Bruce bent his knees and lifted Evelyn up by her thighs and set her on the railing. Evelyn felt her back arch as the cool rock hit her skin through her shirt.

Bruce's lips were intoxicating and Evelyn could easily see herself drowning in them. She could die with a smile on her face and be happy about it, as long as Bruce was kissing her as fiercely as he was now.

"Bruce." Evelyn whispered as Bruce started to work his way down her neck. Lips kissing and sucking the skin, Evelyn gasped as Bruce started to focus on a spot below her ear. Her hands wrapped around his head and pulled him closer, if that was even possible. The feeling was ecstasy but Evelyn did have one complaint.

"I need to feel you Bruce, please." Evelyn begged as her hands finally pried Bruce away from her. It was difficult but the desire to feel Bruce's skin on her own was stronger. Bruce blinked slowly, comprehending what Evelyn said.

Bruce smirked before removing the top half of his suit. Evelyn was instantly there, running her hands up and down his skin. Bruce felt his eyes roll before pushing his hand into her hair. Specifically up and under the back of her head near her roots. He grabbed a fist full of her hair and pulled it back, tilting her head up for easier access to her neck. Evelyn could nothing but gasp and whimper in pleasure as Bruce continued to work his magical lips.

Needless to say, Bruce and Evelyn walked into the manor that night with giddy smiles and swollen lips.
