---Nightmare's POV----
I finished bandaging Cross up, wrapping the white fabric around his wrist with the bite mark.
He looked horrified, probably terrified that I'd suddenly attack him or drag him down to the others to be killed.
Tying the bandage in place I stayed quiet. I'd already fixed up the rest of his wounds, cleaning and bandaging them. It had taken over an hour, each cut being cleaned. On second thoughts that probably wasn't a good idea, seeing as well - he was infected.
I sat back, sighing. "Done."
Cross flinched, looking away. "Why bother? Y-You're going to kill m-me anyway...n-now that you know I-I'm infected..."
Pausing, I stared down at him. He looked defeated, his eyes cast down at the sheets between them where he fiddled with them anxiously. It was a look that gripped my soul and not because it was sad. No. It reminded me far too much of Dream.. my brother. I'd lost him to the zombies and never forgiven myself. I'd always felt I could have done something more to help. Anything that could have saved him.
I glared at myself for a moment and gave a low growl. He reminded me far too much of Dream, and it wasn't good. I placed a hand over his mouth, shushing him. "Shh...I'm not going to kill you...and neither will they."
God I knew I was making a stupid decision. But I couldn't do nothing for a second time.
He blinked, confused as I pulled my hand away from his mouth. "Wh-What do y-you–"
He cut himself off with a terrified yelp as my bedroom door suddenly burst open revealing Dust, Horror, Killer and Error.
Cross immediately hid behind me, covering his bandaged arm from sight as he tried to hide under the blankets.
Dust walked in, growling as he glared at Cross, a gun in his right hand. "Nightmare. Is he infected?"
Cross stared at me with wide, pleading eyes, begging me not to tell them.
I looked Dust in the eye, placing a protective hand on Cross' shoulder. "No." This was for Dream.
Dust blinked in surprise, looking Cross up and down. "What about all of those bandages, what are they covering?"
"Wounds." I said simply. "They're too cleanly cut to be from a zombie. They look more like knife wounds."
Dust hissed, glaring hatefully at Cross again before walking over and pointing his gun at his neck.
Cross went stiff, eyes wide as he stared up at him. But for once he didn't cower away, standing his ground.
"Don't you dare Dust." I growled, wrapping a tentacle round his wrist with the gun and jerking it to the side.
"I wasn't going to kill him..." Dust hissed, yanking his hand out of my grip. "I was just giving an example of what will happen to him if he's lying or turns against us." He chuckled, smirking at Cross. "So you know what happens if you step out of line~?"
Cross nodded, eyes narrowing before pushing the gun from his face. "Yes, I do."
"Good." And with that, Dust left, putting his gun into his hoodie pocket.
Killer blinked, looking over at me. "Is he really clean? No infection?"
I nodded, turning to glance at Cross, grabbing the thin blanket from earlier as I did so and throwing it over him.
Cross squeaked cutely before clinging to the blanket, burying his face into it as I wrapped the blanket around his still exposed body.
Horror walked over, looking down at Cross. "Uh...sorry for assuming you were infected...and uh...sorry that we killed all your friends..."
Cross didn't look at him, simply nodding. "I-Its okay..."
Horror glanced at me strangely before also leaving the room, muttering something under his breath.
Error followed, muttering a quiet "Sorry" to Cross.
Now it was only Cross, Killer and I left in the room. Killer eyed the two of us, raising an 'eyebrow'. "Why are you protecting him?"
I sighed, a tentacle stroking across his skull affectionately. "I- ...He reminds me of Dream."
Killer visibly flinched and looked away, his foot scuffing the carpet. "I see..." Standing up and walking over to Cross he pausedin front of us. He looked him up and down before his eyes rested on the bandage on Cross' wrist.
Cross quickly hid it under the blanket, his other hand shooting out to grip on to my arm, much to my surprise.
Killer narrowed his eyes before turning to walk out, rolling his eyes. "Well have fun with your new boyfriend, Nightmare."
I tensed, feeling my face heat up slightly. "H-He's not my boyfriend!"
Cross' face turned a light shade of purple as he let out a muffled squeal of denial. "N-No!"
Killer snickered before walking out, leaving the two of us alone together. I growled softly, reaching out a tentacle to shut and lock behind him.
He flinched, looking away. I smirked slightly, noting that his face was still flushed light purple. "You okay?"
He nodded quickly, pulling the thin blanket tighter around himself.
I hummed, pushing myself to my feet before walking over to my wardrobe and looking through it. Cross was clearly still cold, so I shifted through my spare clothes. Everything would certainly be far to big for Cross, but something big would be better than nothing.
I grabbed onto one of my old hoodies, holding out in front of me. Oh yes it would be too big, but I don't think he'll complain.
"Here." I tossed the hoodie at Cross, watching in amusement as he struggled to get it on.
He had put his polo shirt back on as I was looking through my wardrobe, and now he had got the hoodie on.
"Stand up." I said with a snicker, watching in amusement as he did so.
The hoodie sleeves came way over the end of his arms, hanging over by a few inches. The bottom of the hoodie stopped just before his knees, looking almost like a dress on him.
"It fits perfect." I said, making him giggle.
I smiled. That's what I wanted. Happiness from him.
I walked over to him, smirking. "Cute~"
Cross blushed, pulling the hood over his face and looking away. "I-I'm not cute!"
I paused slightly, cursing myself in my head for calling him that. Damn it Nightmare! I can't get attached to him! He won't be like this much longer...
Cross glanced at me, blinking rapidly. "Nightmare?"
I shook my head, looking over at him. "Hm?"
"Wh-What do we do if...if the other find out...a-about my bite mark...?"
I winced. "To be blunt Cross. They'll kill you."
He flinched, looking down. "Oh..."
I sighed, walking over to him. "Lets just hope they don't find out, hm?"
He nodded, looking up at me hesitantly. "N-Nightmare..."
"Yeah?"
"I-I'm..." He trailed off, looking down.
"Do you want something?" I asked, resting a hand on his shoulder.
He nodded shyly. "I-I'm...h-hungry..."
I blinked before chuckling and scooping him into my arms bridal-style.
Cross squeaked in surprise, clinging to me. "Y-You don't have to carry me!"
"You can barely stand, let alone walk."
Cross let out a cute groan of annoyance before going limp in my arms, sighing.
I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen, ignoring the glare I got from Dust as I walked past the living room.
Once in the kitchen, I placed Cross down on the counter, booping his nose before opening our cupboards. "Anything in particular you want?"
Cross shrugged, fiddling with his hands and the hem of his hoodie sleeves. "I-I'll just have whatever..."
I sighed, scanning through the shelves until my eye rested on one of our many cans of baked beans we had stored.
There were about twenty of them. Me and the guys have eaten them so much that we've got sick of them, but I'm sure Cross wouldn't mind.
I opened the ring pull on the can before pouring the can of beans into a bowl, watching as Cross eyed them hungrily, shifting about on the counter.
I placed the bowl in one of our microwaves, thinking Cross would like them better warm.
Thirty seconds later a ping rang out at I took out the steaming bowl and wrapped it up in a kitchen towel before handing it to Cross so that it wouldn't burn him.
As soon as I gave him a spoon he started wolfing it down, demolishing the whole bowl in less than thirty seconds.
I chuckled, reaching in for another tin. "You want some more?"
Cross nodded quickly as he licked the spoon off, making sure nothing was left.
I heated up another bowl and passed it to him, watching in amusement as he ate it all, this time a little slower.
Once he was done I placed the bowls in the dishwasher before grabbing something else from the cupboard and slipping it in my hoodie pocket. "I think that's enough for now."
Cross whined but nodded, happily letting me pick him up again as I carried him to the living room, which was now empty.
I sat down with Cross by my side, smirking as I pulled out what I had put in my pocket.
It was a bar of chocolate.
Cross' eyes immediately widened and he reached out for it. "You have chocolate?!"
I nodded, snickering. "Surprised?"
"I-I didn't think there was any left in the world..."
I chuckled, passing it to him. "Well then you have it."
Cross' eyes widened again as he looked up at me cutely. "Y-You mean it?"
"Mhm."
He immediately opened the wrapper covering the bar. He did it gently however, as if he was savouring the moment.
I watched as he took a small nibble, looking like a kid at Christmas. It was honestly adorable to watch.
After a while I leaned back, closing my eye as I felt Cross shift on my lap, leaning against me.
And before I knew it, I'd fallen asleep.
