My mother says sadness is an emotion, something I can control. I can choose to be not sad, it's my feelings.

My father says sadness is like a disease
The purpose   is to seek and destroy
Happiness

My sister says it's something other.
Rather than something you can apply
A persona to.
(She always was the the wisest of the three)

Evan says sadness is built into them.
They listen to sadness all day
Audrey says sadness is grieving
Grieving for happiness

Others say sadness is a person. And a god. And a million other metaphors.

I say sadness is not any of those.
