(person a) and (person b) have been dating for awhile now, and (person a) was lead to believe that everything was fine. no warning signs or odd behaviors from (person b) that could've told them otherwise, yet one day, (person b) had broken up with (person a).
the explanation was sudden and, very obviously, a lie. (person b) insisted that "it's me, not you," a classic, yet (person a) couldn't believe it.

they couldn't get over it, and weeks later, they were still grieving. everything was fine, wasn't it? they had confided in their friends, both mutual and separate from (person b), and no one else understood what had happened either.

then, one afternoon, (person a) receives an unconsciously awaited text.
'can we talk?' with (person b)'s name lighting up their phone.
