like an elementary school, phoenix drop high had an annual field day for their students towards the end of second semester. you could either be a spectator or a volunteer!

(person a) wasn't the sporty type, so volunteering for a field day wasn't on their agenda. it wasn't the same as in elementary school, where they'd take you outside and let you run amok with face painting and popsicle stands, but it was like watching a track meet. sports after sports, competition after competition. just wasn't their thing. however, it was (person b)'s thing, and (person a) was cheering them on from the bleachers... until a baseball hit (person b) right in the face, sending them to the nurse's office, (person a) quickly following to check on them.

(person a) loved volunteering for field day! no class and playing a bunch of games for fun? the best school day ever! everything was going swell as the day started, everybody getting assigned their teams and captains. (person a) was hoping to be paired on a team with their friends, but was split up.
(person b), a well-known athlete, was also split up from their friends, yet teamed with (person a) and named team captain.
"they're so going down," (person b) promised, standing beside (person a).
(person a) agreed before they were released outside.
