"I think Junior Le Roux brought a girl in the mansion when everyone was away." Thembi whispered, with a quirky smile. My skin shivered, the fear of getting caught was surreal.

Shut up Tsholo, she doesn't know that.

"Uh-what-really ?" I tried pretending I had no idea but failed dismally. My lips shivered not knowing what to say or what I was expecting her to say next. I had to brace myself.

"I think he brought Blondie here." She crossed her arms. I instantly felt at ease. Blondie was what we called the white girl who lived next door. Her real name was Tessa Zeldenrust, Thembi and I absolutely loathed her. She was a spoiled brat more than anything. I had no idea what fell in the category for the beautiful and the hideous but no one was foolish enough to think Tessa Zeldenrust was hideous. I didn't envy her, maybe I did. She had a father who owned a well known company, a mother who was always present in every moment of her life, a younger brother who was always there to annoy her. Yes, I envied her life. Sometimes when I was cleaning the balcony, i would watch them having their family lunches or them splashing each other with water in the pool or them having a braai. They had the perfect life.

"There were condoms in his room when I was cleaning, i couldn't believe it." She gasped.

"He doesn't even know who Blondie is." I said with a scrawl on my face, Leo and Tessa would make a nice couple. I honestly didn't want them to ever meet. May they never cross paths, wait why do I even care ? I don't.

"Well tonight he will because they are coming over for dinner." She shrugged wiping the kitchen counter with a wet dish towel.

"What ?" I questioned.

"The Zeldenrust family is coming by for dinner, I'm glad you are here to cook because you know how shitty my food is and Ruiter hates when just cook." She squealed and I just stood there unable to move.

"Uhm-" before I could mutter a word Mr. de Ruiter came into view and I quickly started cleaning up.

"Felo, Leo is not feeling quite well. Make him some soup." He demanded.

"A please would be nice." i murmured under my breath sarcastically rolling my eyes heaving a grouchy sigh.

"Uhm Meneer I will take my leave." Thembi said nervous flouncing out of the kitchen leaving me Alone with Mr. De Ruiter. I didn't know why but I was scared if he had heard me or not. I just didn't know where all this confidence came from but I thought it was time this dastard hag showed me respect. I couldn't count how many times I worked without pay or how many times I worked overtime without a raise or how many times my dignity had been lowered to the one of a dog. I was ready to be fired, i was done with this job and everything.

"Felo, i understand your crone haggard grubby mother is very unwell but that does not give you the right to talk back at me." He glared at me with a cunning eye. Mr. Le roux towered over my body with his six ft height, intimidating the fright out of me. The words he said about my mother seemed to upset me. Those words seemed to set up a fire that had already began.

"You. don't . even. know. my. mother." I said each word giving him a murderous look. He seemed taken aback but still stood tall.

"Talk to me like that again, I will end you little girl. You are an ungrateful little bastard." He growled with anger.

"I will not allow you to bad mouth my mother, you are a piece of tra-" i couldn't finish my sentence because I found myself laying on the cold kitchen tiles with my hand on my left cheek. I couldn't help myself, each teach escaped from my eyes then the dam finally broke. I found myself crying without any sound coming out of my lips.

"I warned you little girl, you were certainly crossing the line. You are now taking advantage of my kindness, i will not be showing you that side anymore. You black people are quite useless when will you understand that we are superior." He shook his head then walked away. My hand was still on my cheek, i continued sitting on the floor. I didn't notice Thembi getting in with a rush, she covered her lips in fear and helped me up.

"Tsholo, atleast he didn't fire you." She said with a small smile.

"That would have been much b-b-better." I snirveled, finding my tears flowing even faster now.

"Don't be silly, you will get through this like you always do." She said rubbing my back. My left cheek stung like a bee, surely a mark was left on my caramel skin. We stayed like this for a while in silence, there was nothing to be said because this was our daily life and we both knew it. I found myself thinking about killing myself and leaving for good. I couldn't take this life anymore, i just couldn't. Maybe life wasn't meant for everyone and my fate wasn't allowing me to ever see what they call happiness. Anything I love is easy taken away.

I was waiting for so long with anticipation that when finally the door opened, i was quick to say. "Hope, I'm so so so sorry. I know I can't change what happened between us and I don't want to change anything because I like you alot. I'm not just saying this because I feel guilty or because you gave me your virginity. I just- things are not the way you see them. Grace is just-" I stopped in my tracks finally looking up.

"I-i-i-i I'm sorry, Mr. Le roux." The second maid murmured, she looked embarrassed.

"What you heard ? Uhm." I ran my fingers through my blonde waves.

"I didn't hear anything at all." She said before I even finished my sentence. The wasn't the way things were suppose to turn out.

"Here is your soup sir, I will be taking my leave." She was quick to rush out the door. I sighed.
