Wyatt
Changing things up a bit this time :)
Wyatt has always considered himself a fairly calm and easy going feline. Simple in the sense that he's never needed much aside from food, water, and his human.
His human's name is Mitch. He's quiet and skinny, but sassy and opinionated. He's also very charming and polite and incredibly sweet. Plus, he's really good at cuddling... his body is always warm and he always smells like fresh air.
Wyatt loves his human... has loved him from the moment they set eyes on one another.
He was just a kitten when he met Mitch. He'd been abandoned by his human family, left out to fend for himself despite the fact that he didn't know how. He barely had control of his own limbs, couldn't quite figure out what to do with his tail. He'd managed to eat a few bugs and some grass and drink some water that fell from the sky.
He'd been perched on a rock next to a creek when he'd heard some rustling in the bushes behind him before, seconds later, a boy with short black hair and black clothes had come stumbling into view. They stared at each other for a few seconds before the boy maneuvered himself towards the creek, creating a kind of bowl out of his palms and fingers before holding them down in front of him. Wyatt stared at him for a moment longer, then dipped his head down to drink the water, which was much easier than trying to drink out of the creek that he'd already fallen into multiple times.
It went on for a few days, this boy, who tells him that his name is Mitch and that he's 16, comes down to the creek every day and lets him drink out of the palms of his hands, pets him, and lets him climb into his lap to find warmth. And then one day the boy tells him that he's going to bring him home with him. He hides him in his room, buys food and a litter box from the pet store with the money he says he's earned from working at the bakery.
He stays hidden for months before Mitch's mom bounds into his room unannounced to find him curled up on Mitch's chest while he was reading. His mom was shocked and angry at Mitch for lying and when Mitch had started to panic and cry, Wyatt had cowered under the bed in fear.
Mitch had started to beg his mom to let him keep Wyatt, while his mom had been incredibly skeptical. "Please mom? Please! He was abandoned, mom. Whoever had him before just left him. I found him by the creek and he just looked so sad and alone so I went back every day for like a week and he was always there. Please let me keep him. Please don't make me abandon him."
His mom said yes, after that guilt trip. And then Mitch had kneeled down on the floor and cooed for him to come out from under the bed. When he did, he picked him up and introduced him to his mom, who pat his head gently and then told Mitch he might as well get the litter box and food out of his bedroom so Wyatt could roam the rest of the house.
They've been inseparable ever since.
That is, until two and a half years later, they've since moved to L.A. so Mitch could go to college, when Mitch meets Scott.
-------
The first time Wyatt hears Mitch mention Scott is when they're having dinner one evening after Mitch's last class of the day. Mitch is eating at the small table between the living room and the kitchen, while Wyatt is eating out of his food bowl on the floor next to him. He's just finished eating and jumped into Mitch's lap when his pocket begins to vibrate.
"Sorry, love," he murmurs, shifting awkwardly so he can pull his phone out of his pocket. Wyatt looks up at him and sees him smile down at the screen before he answers it. "Hey, Scott."
His ears perk up as Mitch rubs his fingers over his spine just the way he likes it because who's Scott? He knows Cara and Kirstie, but who's Scott? Scott is new.
"No, I'm not doing anything tonight, I was just gonna hang out with Wyatt." Pause. "He's my cat." Pause. "What movie?" Pause. "Oh! Yeah, that looked really good." Pause. "Yeah, sure! What time do you want me to meet you?" Pause. "Okay, that works. See you in 30."
A few minutes later Mitch moves Wyatt onto the floor before he goes into the kitchen to wash his dishes. Then he disappears into the bedroom and comes out wearing a completely different outfit.
Wyatt meows at him as he walks around the apartment to collect his things.
"Sorry, Wy. I gotta go," Mitch tells him, leaning down to kiss the top of his head. "I have a date. Well, it's not technically a date... yet. We'll just have to see, won't we?"
And then he's gone and Wyatt is left alone to entertain himself.
Wyatt notes that the first time he hears of Scott, it's also the first time Mitch leaves him alone on a weeknight in ages. It's not a very good first impression.
-------
The first time Wyatt meets Scott, the boy comes bounding into the apartment behind Mitch laughing loudly and jumping around a little too excitedly. Mitch is laughing too, poking the blond haired boy in the stomach which elicits even more loud laughter and stumbling. They begin to rough house a bit, the blonde boy making a whole bunch of noise and Wyatt, who isn't used to such loud noises, cowers away from them until his butt hit the side of the couch. He promptly jumps up on to the arm of the couch seconds before both boys tumble towards him.
Mitch lands on his back while the blond boy lands on top of him with an 'oof'. Blondie props himself up on his hands, staring down at Mitch, who's staring back up at the loud boy.
Wyatt meows then, feeling jealous and truthfully a little bit scared. Mitch is his human and he always greets him when he comes home.
Both boys part ways, blondie rolling off of Mitch's body to stand upright while Mitch props himself up into a sitting position. "Hey, Queen," Mitch murmurs, reaching out to pet Wyatt on the head. "Scott, this is my baby, Wyatt."
"Hey, Wyatt," Scott says, reaching his hand out to pet him.
Wyatt hisses, swatting at the foreign hand with his claws out. His claws scrape across the top of Scott's hand before he jumps off the couch and runs around to hide behind the back of it.
"Jesus...fucking....shit!" Scott curses, gripping his wounded hand in the other hand.
Mitch jumps to his feet and then pulls the blonde boy towards the sink in the kitchen, running Scott's hand under the water. "Sorry, he gets like that sometimes with strangers."
"No, it's fine. Stings like hell though."
Wyatt growls as both of them as they walk back towards the couch and ignores Mitch, who reaches out for him. He coos at Wyatt, tries to coax him into joining them on the couch, but Wyatt doesn't like the Scott boy and he's mad at Mitch, so he turns away from them and disappears into the bedroom.
Scott's shouts and hollers and cheers and grunts are the only things he hears for the rest of the evening as they play Mariokart on the TV box. And only when Scott's gone for the night, does he acknowledge Mitch again, who pulls him into his arms upon crawling into bed to sleep.
-------
The sixth time Scott comes over he causes a ruckus. He pushes Mitch up against the door after slamming it closed, which startles Wyatt out of his slumber on the window sill. And then there are things falling off tables and shelves and articles of clothing are falling to the floor too as they stumble through the apartment towards the bedroom. Scott's kissing Mitch, running his hands all over Mitch's body which elicits sounds out of Mitch's throat. Sounds that Wyatt has never heard before, sounds that kind of scare him.
The bedroom door slams shut behind them as they stumble into the room, giggling and whimpering. Wyatt jumps down off the window sill and walks towards the door. He tries to bump it open with his head... Mitch doesn't usually close the door but on the odd occasion that he does, Wyatt's able to nudge it open. Except this time he can't because the door won't open. He sits back and paws softly at the door. When there's no response, he bares his claws and scratches, meowing loudly... but the noises from inside the room drown out his cries.
The door doesn't open for hours. Hours in which Wyatt spends lying and sitting on the floor outside the door... waiting.
Mitch is completely naked when the door does open and Wyatt peers up at him curiously. His skin looks wet and his hair is messy and he looks exhausted but also kind of happy. He glances around Mitch into the room to find the blonde boy lying on the bed... on Wyatt's side of the bed...with his head on his pillow.
"Come inside if you're coming, Wy," Mitch mumbles, crawling back under the covers next to Scott. Both boys curl themselves around each other before Mitch runs his hand across the mattress as he tries to entice Wyatt to come up.
Wyatt just wants Scott to leave. He wants him to get out of his spot and off of his pillow and out of the apartment and away from his human.
-------
The thing is, Wyatt really doesn't like Scott.
He's loud and he's obnoxious and he makes messes all over the apartment and he's almost stepped on him four times in the span of two weeks. Not to mention the fact that he keeps stealing all of Mitch's attention.
Every time Scott is at the apartment, which is more often than not these days, it's like Mitch forgets that Wyatt is even there.
Mitch cuddles into the blonde's side when they're watching the TV Box and forgets to cuddle with Wyatt. He disappears into the bedroom with Scott for what feels like hours and leaves Wyatt all alone outside the door. And even when he lets Wyatt into the room, Mitch lets Scott cuddle up to him, let's Scott take up all the space on his side of the bed so there's hardly any room for Wyatt anyways.
Wyatt just wants his human back. He doesn't want to share his human with any other human. Mitch's is supposed to be his human, after all, not Scott's.
-------
Scott opens the bedroom door for Wyatt to come inside, but rather than join them, he turns away with his chin raised stubbornly. Instead of going to the bedroom to try and weasel his way in between the boys, he curls up on the couch.
"I think he just snubbed me, Mitchy," Scott is saying from inside the bedroom.
"Noooooo," Mitch drawls out cutely.
"He did, Mitch. And I'm pretty sure he hates me."
"He's just stubborn. You should talk to him more."
"Talk to him. He's a cat, Mitch."
"I talk to him all the time."
"Does he answer you?"
"Sometimes," Mitch giggles. "No, but really. He might start to like you if you tried talking to him."
"And what am I supposed to talk to him about? We don't exactly have very much in common."
"...You have me? And you're both important to me so..."
There's a pause and a moan and then a whisper in Scott's voice, "You're important to me too."
If Wyatt could speak english, he'd use it then to tell both of them he wants nothing to do with Scott Hoying.
-------
Scott begins to spend more and more time at the apartment, so Wyatt begins to spend more and more time ignoring the blonde boy. And, by default, he tends to spend that time ignoring Mitch as well, but only because Mitch is always with Scott.
And he misses Mitch. He misses their kitty cuddles and the little kisses Mitch would place on his nose and the way he used to talk to him all the time. He misses when Mitch was his human, when he didn't have to share him with anyone on a regular basis. Sure, he sometimes had to share Mitch with his mom and his sister, or his best friends, but that was different. They didn't spend every waking moment with Mitch. They only came over sometimes and when they did come over, they paid just as much attention to Wyatt as they did to Mitch. They didn't try to take Mitch away from Wyatt.
Scott is trying to take Mitch away.
Scott gets to have kitty cuddles all the time, gets to have Mitch kiss all over his face and nose...even has the nerve to giggle about it too... and Mitch talks to Scott all the time. It's like Scott is Mitch's new kitty, like Mitch loves Scott more than he loves Wyatt.
It's like Wyatt has been replaced.
--------
Wyatt watches Mitch kiss Scott by the door, hears him whisper things like 'Goodbye' and 'Goodnight' and 'Just be there for him, you're a great friend Scott'. And Wyatt is confused because Scott always spends the night now, despite the fact that Wyatt always squishes his way in between the boys in the bed so he's closer to Mitch.
And then Scott is gone and Mitch turns around, looking kind of sad and lost. Wyatt meows, trotting across the room to get to him before bumping his head against Mitch's leg.
Mitch bends down, scoops Wyatt up into his arms and cradles him to his chest. He's warm and his sweater is soft and his arms are tight and... Wyatt has definitely missed this. "Looks like it's just you and me tonight, Wy." he whispers, kissing the top of his head.
He purrs, digging his head into his chest as Mitch carries him into the bedroom. Mitch lays down on his back on top of the sheets, letting Wyatt curl into a ball on his chest.
"Scott's friend broke up with his girlfriend today, so he went to stay the night with him," Mitch says suddenly. "He's really worried about him...I've never seen him so worried."
Wyatt scowls.
It's quiet for a few more minutes as Mitch strokes the fuzz over Wyatt's back and scratches at the space between his ears. He purrs, happily, kneading softly at the fabric of his sweater. This is the kind of kitty cuddles he's missed, the kind he loves. And this is Mitch, warm and soft and cuddly and smells like the outside...this is the human he loves.
"I know you don't like him very much, Wyatt," Mitch begins.
That's an understatement, Wyatt thinks.
"But I really, really like him, babes. I just... I like him so much and really love you and I... can you give him a chance? Just... for me, just give him a chance, yeah?"
Wyatt huffs, burying his face into Mitch's chest. If Mitch thinks that he would actually give the loud, giant, who talks too much and walks around like he owns the place a chance, then he's mistaken.
-------
Wyatt watches, helpless, as Mitch gets ready to leave. He's been called into work, which isn't usually a problem because it happens sometimes. But the problem this time is that Scott is here and Mitch told him to just stay here and that he would be back in a few hours. And Wyatt really, really, really doesn't want to be left alone with Scott.
He's meowing at Mitch, following him around the bedroom as he gathers his work clothes and shoves them into his bag before following him out into the front hall. He's telling Scott to keep Wyatt company and that he can, of course, eat and drink whatever he wants, but Wyatt doesn't even care about that because he's too busy getting himself tangled in Mitch's legs. He may have gotten used to his limbs now, and his tail, in the last few years, but Mitch sometimes still has trouble deciphering the use for his own and he thinks that maybe if he makes Mitch fall, he won't have to go to work.
"Wyatt, com on, stop," Mitch huffs, moving him around so he can put his shoes on. "Scott, babe, can you get him?"
He meows and huffs as the blonde boy reaches down to him and then holds him tight against his chest so he can't escape. He squirms and wiggles and lets his claws out as he tries to get away from him, meanwhile Mitch leans forward to kiss Scott on the lips and brush his nose against Scott's, and then leans down to kiss him between the ears.
The second the door closes behind Mitch, Wyatt manages to wriggle himself out of Scott's arms, landing on all fours on the floor at his feet. He turns, instinctively, and hisses at Scott.
"Yeah, yeah, you hate me. I get it," Scott mumbles. "You know, I'm not too fond of you either."
Scott turns away, making his way into the living room for the couch. But Wyatt is faster, running past him to jump onto the cushion he usually sits on. He glares at Wyatt and attempts to sit on the other cushion, but he moves onto that one too, looking up at Scott innocently.
"Really?" He asks rhetorically. "You do know I'm bigger than you, right?"
Wyatt hisses as he picks him up and then sits down on the cushion he usually claims before setting him back down on the other. He sits facing the blonde, glaring at him.
"You're gonna have to share at some point, ya know. I'm not going anywhere."
Wyatt continues to glare at him as he reaches for the remote and turns the TV box on. Scott looks at him out of the corner of his eyes a few times, his gaze flickering between him and the TV box before he sighs.
He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees as Wyatt looks sideways at him. "Okay, here's the thing, Wyatt. Mitch tells me I should talk to you more but the thing is you're a cat and, well, what the hell am I supposed to say to a fucking cat, ya know? It's not like you can talk back and how the hell do I even know you can understand me? Mitch seems to think you can but he's a little odd, yeah?"
Wyatt agrees that yes, Mitch is a little odd. But he's just Mitch and he loves Mitch.
"I get it, though. He wants us to get along or whatever... even though I don't really get why. It's not like I need your permission or acceptance or anything. You're a cat. Worse comes to worse we spend the rest of your life ignoring each other. But... it's what he wants and... I want to give him everything he wants. I want to, Wyatt, and he wants both of us, ya know?"
Wyatt blinks, and maybe his shoulders soften a bit as he watches the blonde talk.
"And I know you love him and you worship the ground he walks on, you're completely smitten by him. And so am I. I mean, I'm kind of in love with him and-" he cuts himself off, looking wide eyed and scared. He sits up, starting to breathe heavily and he puts one hand on his chest. "Jesus," he murmurs. "Fuck..oh my god... fuck!"
Crazy is yet another word Wyatt would add to the box of Scott related vocabulary in his head.
"I've never admitted that to anyone... I haven't even admitted it to myself before, so don't say any- nevermind, you can't talk," he remembers, burying his head into his hands for a minute. He looks back at Wyatt with soft eyes. "Look, the point is, I really... I care about him okay? And I really, really like him and... and I'm willing to make peace with you for him, okay?" He holds out his giant fist to him. "Deal?"
Wyatt stares at him for a few seconds longer, curious. He seems genuine enough and his voice is soft and caring and maybe he believes the blonde a little bit.
And then he looks at the fist, before bumping his head gently against his knuckles.
-------
Wyatt meows. And meows and meows. He's cranky and he's hungry and Mitch should've been up to feed him hours ago. But Mitch is fast asleep, sprawled across the bed with Scott. They came in drunk last night, stumbling noisily around the apartment and giggling as they both tripped and fell onto the bed. Mitch had nearly crushed him, and would have, if Scott didn't pick him up and move him out of the way just in time.
Scott, however, isn't so asleep as he groans and rolls over, propping himself up on his elbow to look at Wyatt. He shushes him and then looks at the clock and groans again. So he meows. "Okay! Okay, okay, just shush. He's hungover," Scott whispers. He pushes himself up, disentangling himself from Mitch, before climbing out of the bed and pulling on a pair of sweat pants. He yawns, tapping his fingers against his leg in a motion for Wyatt to follow him.
So he does, trotting out of the room just as Scott closes the door behind him, leaving it open just a crack.
"Okay, Wyatt. You're gonna have to help me with this one because I have no idea where Mitch keeps your food," Scott says softly. "Teamwork, yeah?"
Wyatt meows at him, walking over to the tall pantry next to the fridge as Scott begins searching the cupboards under and over the sink.
"You know, sitting in front of the pantry isn't gonna do you any good if I can't find the damn-"
He starts scratching at the door and meowing loudly.
"Would you- what are you doing?" He pulls the door open, realization dawning on his face. "Oh. Okay, thanks," he says, looking down at the large container of dry cat food on the floor.
Wyatt watches as Scott fetches his food bowl and then brings it to the pantry, before taking the lid off the container and filling the bowl. He replaces the lid, closes the pantry, and then puts his bowl back onto the floor before refilling his water bowl, then standing back and admiring his work. Wyatt stares at him for a moment and Scott stares back.
"What? Did I do it wrong?"
He turns then, and starts to eat.
Scott is eating his own breakfast, a bowl of cereal, at the table a few minutes later when Wyatt decides he's had enough, jumps on to the table and sits on the opposite side of Scott's bowl.
Mitch comes out of the bedroom then, in nothing but a pair of boxers. He's yawning and scratching tiredly at the back of his neck. "I'm so hungover," he moans, dragging his feet across the hardwood floor.
Scott chuckles. "That'll teach you to challenge me on who can drink more, won't it?" He teases.
Mitch stops then, and looks between Scott and Wyatt. "What are you two doing?"
"I fed him. He was starving because you were too hungover to get up on time," Scott replies.
"How'd you know where the food was?"
"The princess here showed me," he says, motioning to Wyatt. "It was a real team effort, right, Wy?" He holds out his fist to Wyatt, and he bumps his head against his knuckles.
Mitch quirks an eyebrow. "What was that?"
Scott shrugs. "It's just a thing we do. Get used to it Grassi," he states.
Mitch laughs, and then promptly winces and clutches at his forehead. "Ow," he moans pitifully.
"I'll get you some aspirin, sit down," Scott says, pushing himself out of the chair. He presses a kiss to Mitch's temple and then swats at his ass before disappearing into the bathroom.
Mitch sits down, resting his elbows on the table and holding his head in his hands. Wyatt walks across the table and rubs himself against Mitch's forearm before poking his face underneath his to bump his head against his chin. "Hi, babes," Mitch whispers, leaning back.
He crawls down into Mitch's lap, then curling himself into a ball as Scott emerges from the bathroom. He hands Mitch the medicine and a glass of water, which he swallows in one gulp before looking up fondly at the blonde boy. "You're the best, Scott."
And maybe Mitch isn't completely lying, Wyatt thinks, because Scott did take it upon himself to feed him.
-------
Scott is like a puppy, Wyatt decides, which probably explains why he hated him so much in the beginning. He's big and he's loud and he's easily excitable... and when he's excitable he seems even bigger and gets even louder and he jumps around and makes a ruckus. But at the same time, he's really kind of loving and loyal, and he likes to cuddle when he's tired.
He's like the dog a family brings home that turns the cat's world upside down and thus the cat hates the dog. It's obnoxious and weird and in your face, so the cat ignores the dog and pretends it doesn't exist, but then the cat realizes the dog isn't so bad, it's just different and wants to be friends and be loved. Maybe the dog isn't as horrible or annoying as the cat previously thought. Maybe the dog is kind of cute and warm and protective. And maybe the cat is growing a little bit fond of the dog, although he'd never admit it.
-------
Wyatt follows a butterfly out onto a ledge on the wall outside the apartment window and, although he manages to turn himself around, he's too scared to walk back. So he meows and meows and meows until Mitch pops his head out of the window. He starts to freak out, calling hysterically for Scott, panicking about what they should do.. Mitch starts to climb on to the window sill but Wyatt can hear Scott telling him not too because he's too much of a mess.
And then all of the sudden, Scott is climbing onto the window sill, straddling it with his chest pressed against the side of the wall as he reaches out for him. Wyatt cowers, afraid he's going to fall, which results in him taking a few steps away from Scott.
"Hey, no, it's okay," Scott coos softly. "It's okay, I'm gonna help you, babes. Come here Wy, come on. I won't let you fall okay? Just come here," His voice is soft and soothing and coaxing. Wyatt wants to walk towards it but he can't move. He wants Scott to save him, but he can't help him do it.
Eventually, after much coaxing, Scott gets his hand around Wyatt and pulls him swiftly into his chest before Mitch pulls him back inside by the shoulders. Mitch rips Wyatt from Scott's arms and holds him tight against his chest, crying. He spends all day in Mitch's arms because he refuses to put him down, and Wyatt very much likes feeling warm and safe, and being held by Mitch.
At night, however, after Mitch is asleep, having passed out from exhaustion, Wyatt wriggles himself out of Mitch's arms and walks around his head on the pillow to where Scott is lying behind him, his body curled into Mitch's. Wyatt bumps his head against his gently, rubbing his face in Scott's hair.
He stirs and cranes his neck to look back at Wyatt, before rolling onto his back. "Hey, Wy,' he whispers into the dark.
He crawls across his shoulder and onto his chest and then lays down on top of him. He, too, feels warm and safe to him now and this is his way of thanking Scott.
"You really scared him ya know," he whispers again, bringing his hand up to stroke his back and play with one of his ears. "Scared me too."
-------
Scott has a lot of hats, which he leaves around the apartment all the time. And, for once, Wyatt doesn't mind because for one... they smell good and he likes to rub his face on the fabric, and two... they make for good toys sometimes. Especially when neither Mitch nor Scott are home.
Scott also takes a lot of pictures of Wyatt, he's always telling Mitch things like, 'wait, lemme take a picture' before shoving his phone in his face and 'I took this picture while you were gone'. Wyatt doesn't tend to mind, unless the bright light goes off, which it has on occasion, because it hurts his eyes. But then, Scott always apologizes and rubs his face softly after.
Today is not only a day where Wyatt is amusing himself by playing with one of Scott's hats he found on the floor, but also one where Scott has been taking pictures of him all day. He's been all giggles and playful all day, tossing the hat around for Wyatt to chase and pounce on. Wyatt wouldn't admit that Scott was actually kind of fun.
It's later in the afternoon, while they're waiting for Mitch to come home from work, when they're both tired and lounging lazily on the couch, that Scott announces he has a plan. He scoops Wyatt up off the cushion and places him in his lap, facing him while Scott tells him to hold still. He pulls the hat off of his head, and then places it on Wyatt's.
His head, however, is obviously much smaller than Scott's, so the hat covers his whole head and hides his face. Scott continues to tell him to hold still, and then he hears the soft click of his phone which he knows is the sound it makes when he takes a picture.
As if on cue, the front door opens and then Mitch's voice carries through the apartment. "What are you two doing?" He asks, a common question he seems to be asking these days.
"Look at him, isn't he adorable?" Scott laughs.
"You can't even see his face."
"Exactly, because the hat's too big. But he loves it."
All of a sudden, the hat is being lifted off his head as Scott places it back on his own, and Mitch is walking into the living room, shaking his head with a fond smile. He bends down to kiss Scott's lips and then hovers with his face over Wyatt's. He looks up at him expectantly before he kisses his face too and then plops down onto the couch beside them.
Wyatt looks from Mitch, who has his head rested on Scott's shoulder, to Scott, who rests his head on top of Mitch's. All he wants now is that hat, so he stretches up, placing his paws on Scott's chest as he bumps his nose against Scott's hat, making it fall off. Scott laughs and Mitch snickers as the hat falls into Mitch's lap. Wyatt then crawls from Scott's lap into Mitch's and makes himself comfortable sitting halfway in the hat.
"Yeah, he's pretty adorable," Mitch sighs.
-------
Scott doesn't come over the next day. Or the day after that or the one after that. Wyatt wonders what happened to him, where he is and why he isn't here. Scott hasn't been gone this long since Mitch brought him home in the very beginning. Wyatt won't admit to missing him but... well... he doesn't like that Scott isn't here.
Mitch doesn't like it either. He's been mopey and depressed and lonely since Scott left a few mornings ago.
The only upside to Scott not being around all the time, apart from the fact that the apartment is nice and quiet, is that Mitch is around for more, and longer, kitty cuddles.
Wyatt is lying on the bed when Mitch comes barreling through the door and into the room after work. He tosses his bag on to the floor and grabs his laptop off of his desk and brings it with him towards the bed. Mitch picks him up with one hand before flopping down on his stomach on the bed.
"We're skyping with Scott, babes," Mitch says excitedly, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. He opens the laptop then, and works his fingers over the buttons.
Wyatt loves Mitch's laptop because it's warm and it makes this really soothing buzzing sound. He walks over Mitch and tries to lie down on the buttons, but Mitch pulls him back, burying him into his chest. But... okay... Mitch is warm too, so he stays.
The laptop makes a loud noise and then Scott's face pops up.
"Hiiiii!" Mitch exclaims happily, shifting onto one elbow as he waves with the other hand.
"Hi, babe!"
Wyatt's ears perk up instantly at the sound of Scott's voice and he pokes his head out to glance around the room to the door. But Scott isn't there.
"He's not here, Wy, he's there," Mitch says, tapping his finger against the screen. "Say 'Hi', Scott."
"Hey, babes," Scott laughs.
Wyatt's ears perk up again as he wriggles out from underneath Mitch. He follows Mitch's fingers to the screen, to where Scott's face is. He crawls on to the buttons, sitting back as he paws at the spot where Scott's nose is. Both boys laugh at him as he meows.
"Here, up here," Mitch murmurs, lifting his finger to a spot at the top of the screen and he follows it up with his nose.
"Wyatt, Wyatt," Scott calls, and Wyatt steps back to survey the screen. He's holding his fist up. "Bump it."
He purrs, bumping his head against the screen where Scott's fist is before rubbing his body along the length of the screen.
"He misses you," Mitch says.
"Yeah? Anybody else miss me?"
"I might, but only a little."
"Only?"
"Okay, fine. I miss you a lot. Don't make a big deal out of it," Mitch teases.
Scott laughs, and it's loud and endearing and Wyatt thinks it sounds like normal. "Well, I might miss you a little bit too."
Mitch giggles. "How's home?"
"It's great. You have to come with me next time though."
"I will yeah. I'll make sure I can get time off of work."
Wyatt takes it upon himself to let them talk as he crawls onto Mitch's back and climbs up to rest on his shoulder. He watches Scott's face on the screen move around as he goes on and on and on... and alright, maybe he'll admit to missing him a little.
-------
Wyatt can hear them before they even get to the door. He smells Scott, can hear his voice and his laugh drifting from down the hall as they get closer and closer to the apartment. He jumps off the window sill and bolts across the apartment to the door, sitting patiently behind it.
He hears them stop and hears Mitch's key in the lock before the door swings open. Mitch comes in in front of Scott but he finds Scott's legs quickly, running himself against them and weaving himself between them. Scott stumbles and laughs and he meows in response.
"Whoa, hey-"
"Wyatt!" Mitch calls, trying to make his voice sound firm around his giggle. "Hey, come on, give him a minute to get settled okay?" He scoops Wyatt into his arms, away from Scott as the blonde boy removes his jacket and kicks off his shoes.
He squirms, trying to wiggle himself free to get to Scott.
Mitch laughs, shaking his head as he struggles to keep him still. "Scott will give you cuddles in a minute just-"
Scott grins, turning away from the closet where he's just hung up his jacket to face them both. "Here, gimmie him," He laughs, reaching out to take him from Mitch.
Wyatt purrs and buries himself into the fabric of Scott's shirt as he cradles him to his chest. He coos at him and kisses him in between the ears and he carries him into the living room where they fall back onto the couch.
"Oh, I see how it is. Just, you know, leave me out here all alone," Mitch teases from the front hall.
Scott hums, propping his head back on a pillow against one of the arms of the couch. "Hurry up then if you want a cuddle."
Wyatt curls himself up on Scott's chest, basking in his warmth and his softness and the steady beat of his heart.
"No, it's okay, I get it. You're just using me for my cat," Mitch continues, standing at the other end of the couch with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Mitchhhhhh," Scott whines.
Mitch giggles, and then Wyatt feels the couch dip slightly at the other end, near Scott's legs, as Mitch climbs on top of Scott. They both shift around until they find a comfy position where Mitch is sandwiched between Scott's side and the back of the couch, his face buried into the crook of Scott's neck. Wyatt gets up and moves closer to Mitch before settling back down on Scott's chest. He pets him a few times, per request, and then starts to play with his ear, moving it between his fingers softly.
Scott hums again and Wyatt can feel the rumble in his chest.
"Never leave again," Mitch whispers.
"Never," Scott agrees.
"Like seriously, Not without taking us with you. It's too quiet without you here, isn't Wyatt?"
Scott laughs. "Never," he whispers again.
And this, Wyatt decides, is happiness. Here with his human, and his human's human, is home.
Scott was a menace before, is still a menace in some ways. But he's kind of adorable and dorky and charming, which are all, and just some, of the things he loves about Mitch. So how can he not love them in Scott?
Mitch will always be his favorite human, but maybe Scott is his second favorite human after all.
I kind of have an idea for another one shot from Wyatt's pov if you'd like..?
