Willow Tree

It was a new daily routine for Mitch really, it had been for a while now. Easily the best, and worst part of his day. He looked forward to it, but also dreaded it. It was so easy, but also so, unbelievably hard.

Mitch made sure to make time for him everyday after work, at sunset. At this point, his friends knew not to bother trying to contact him during that time. Mitch wanted nothing to do with the outside world when he was with him. They would meet at the same spot every time, they didn't really have a choice. Obviously, if it was up to Mitch, it wouldn't have to be like this.

The place itself was really pretty. Their spot was by a giant willow tree, on top of a hill, and always had the perfect view of the sun setting. Sitting under that tree, their tree, the tree that had their initials carved into it, had grown to be a happy and sad place for Mitch. The memories they shared there were some of Mitch's fondest. The endless talks, the kisses, even the fights. Mitch loved it all. His favorite memory though, was when he was first brought here, at sunset of course.

"Where are we going? Can I take my blindfold off yet?"

"No. Absolutely not. And I'm not telling you, hence the blindfold. But we're almost there, if that helps."

"Are we staying outside? I am not dressed for this shit."

"We are, and don't worry about it. I promise you'll love it." He chuckled.

"I'm not sure I believe you."

"When have I ever steered you wrong?"

"Seriously, you wanna start this now?"

"I wouldn't if I were you. You're the one with the blindfold following me."

That got me to shut up real quick. I heard him chuckle at my silence, but he had a good point. Right now I was being pulled along by the hand by Mr. Long Legs himself to God knows where. All I know is it's up a hill, and I did not sign up to get any kind of exercise today.

"Okay. Sit here." He said as he helped me sit down and take off my blindfold.

He was right. I loved it.

The first thing I noticed was the fact that we were under the biggest tree I've ever seen, and the blanket underneath of us, with an actual picnic basket and food that looked like he made himself in front of me. It was one of those things that you read in stories, but never actually thought happened in real life, at least not to you.

"This is my favorite spot, and I've never brought anyone here. I come here to think, or just watch the sun set." He said, as he sat down and pointed to my right.

That's when I noticed the most breathtaking view. I stared in awe for a few moments at the orange and pink sky before I turned to look back at him. I wasn't sure if he was paying attention to anything other than the view so I took a moment to just admire him, the way he looked in the dimming sunlight. It was even more perfect than the sunset behind me.

"Enjoying the view?" He said as he looked at me, a smirk on his face.

"As a matter of fact, I am."

We ate our food, watching the sunset in comfortable silence. By the time it was dark, we had moved the blanket out from under the tree and cuddled under the stars. As I laid there, I couldn't help but be absolutely enchanted by the night, by everything he did for me. It was not only the cutest thing, but also the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for me. I didn't think he would ever understand just how special he made me feel, how loved and important he made me feel.

"Thank you." I said as I looked up at him. "This was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me."

And then, his lips met mine, for the first time. One of those fairytale kisses that leaves you breathless, sending currents throughout your body.

There wasn't anything in the world better than this moment. I wanted to stay in it forever. It was perfect.

He smiled at the thought as he made his way up the path on the hill, this time, carrying flowers. He always tried to bring little gifts, give him something new.

Mitch sat under the tree, facing the sunset, giving him the flowers. He could sit and talk to him for hours, even though he saw him everyday. The words always came to him, he always had something to say. He enjoyed talking to him about his day, or something his friends did. Mitch wanted to make sure he was always included, that he always felt wanted.

He never wanted to leave, his heart always longed for the man, it felt heavier every time he walked away, even though he knew they would meet again tomorrow. After all, Scott was buried here, he wasn't going anywhere.
