Saturday
A quick thing for @probablysomehow. Seemed like she was having a rough night and I know she has a weakness for these kinds of stories so here we go :)
Mitch is woken by a somewhat heavy weight landing on him, jolting him out of his dreams and into the real world.
"Papa!" There's a high pitched squeal in his ear, as the weight...no...the tiny body on him, crawls up higher and lays itself next to him. "Wake up!"
It's a command that doesn't have any urgency to it. The little boy settles himself into Mitch's side, snuggling into his father's warmth. Mitch rolls onto his side to face his son, wrapping his arms around him and engaging in morning cuddles.
"Morning Noah." He hums, with his morning voice still a bit raspy and dry. "What's got you up so early honey?" Mitch opens his eyes slightly to see Noah's eyes closed, and he looks like he's ready to go back to sleep with how peaceful he already looks.
"Emily." He mumbles, and Mitch finds it so adorable that even though the kid sounds annoyed, he can still see a slight turn of the boy's lips into a smile at the mention of his little sister.
At first it had been a genuine concern for Mitch and Scott, as the idea of another kid weeded it's way into their mind. A concern about how Noah would cope with a new addition to the family; whether he would struggle with it or embrace it.
Of course to their relief, Mitch and Scott have come to realize that despite their worrying, Noah seems to have taken a liking to his new role as a big brother. He's protective of her, always wanting to tend to her or look after her. And although it's inevitable how the attention that's used to being on Noah has shifted more to Emily, the big brother doesn't seem to mind it at all. If anything, he's probably enjoying not having his parents around him constantly.
They should've known it would be easier than they thought. Noah was a good kid who took on any challenge head on and usually seemed to succeed.
"I'm sorry baby. Is daddy with her now?" Mitch questions. His eyes are closed and he makes no effort to move or get up. With his boy cuddled next to him, he's too warm and comfy to bother, and based on the current silence surrounding him, he's guessed already that Scott got up and tended to whatever problem needed to be dealt with.
Mitch doesn't know if he should feel bad about it or not, with Scott being the one that's usually up early in the morning with the kids. But then again, Scott's a light sleeper and wakes up at the tiniest of noises, so naturally he's always the first one up when the baby monitor goes off and the crying starts.
"Yeah, daddy's there now. He told me to come wake you up." The boy whispers, burying his face deeper into Mitch's chest.
"And what a great job you're doing at that." Mitch teases, smiling and throwing the blankets over the boy's body so that they're both tucked in and warm. "Let's sleep a bit more, okay?"
Noah nods, quickly agreeing to his father's proposal, and lets out a giggle as Mitch places a kiss on his forehead.
It's a Saturday morning, so it's allowed...if not a necessity...to sleep in.
Mitch is almost drifting off, when the most adorable and melodious sound of giggles drags him back to reality. He opens his eyes and blinks a couple times trying to get rid of his blurry vision, before he sees Scott standing at the doorway, holding a baby in his arms.
It's their baby girl, Emily, who's giggling as she entertains herself by pulling on chunks of Scott's hair. It looks almost painful, how tightly she's gripping onto them. Mitch smiles sleepily at them.
"Good morning," He whispers, his smile getting bigger as he watches Scott walk in the room and sit down on the bed.
Mitch reaches out an arm, gently brushing over the baby smooth skin to help release Emily's grip on Scott's hair, earning a thankful exhale from the man holding her.
Scott holds Mitch's gaze for a minute, keeping his smile small and sincere. "Morning loves." He says after a while, looking between Mitch and the boy cuddled into his side.
Mitch lifts the corner of the blanket, signaling Scott to get in with Emily, and when he looks at them hesitatingly, Mitch smirks. "It's a Saturday Scott, come back to bed."
Mitch holds his arms out for Emily, to take the baby and Scott slides in under the blanket. He looks at their youngest child, their newest family member fondly. She's so cute, the prettiest girl he's ever seen, and when he thinks about his husband and son, it's almost ridiculous how gorgeous they all look. His beautiful family.
He holds the baby up, keeping her up and hovering over his face while she giggles when he talks to her or makes silly faces at her. Soon she's babbling back, arms and legs moving everywhere,, just as excited.
Scott snuggles closer to them, nuzzling his nose into Mitch's neck. Noah's laying in between them, still sound asleep, his sleep secured by the bodies enveloping him.
Scott presses a kiss under Mitch's jaw then, and takes Emily from him, laying her down onto his chest. Her slobber quickly wetting his t-shirt, but it's already disheveled looking so Mitch assumes it's not that big of a deal.
Their bed, hardly big enough for the two of them, has now squeezed four people in it, and although it's a crowded and tight fit, Mitch loves how he's wrapped and surrounded by every member of his family.
He feels happy now, and so serene in this moment. And it still does take him aback, to think about how not so long ago, their lives were so hectic, their schedules filled with all kinds of shows and interviews. They were always wanted to make even the smallest appearance and at that crazy time, Mitch had thought that he would never achieve this kind of easy, drama free, life he had always wanted.
But as it turned out, life's always been good to him, and now he's sharing his bed with his three favorite people. And this isn't just a day off, not just a brief break between tour legs. No. It's a whole new leaf, a new page in all their lives.
And although it's a tight squeeze, It's nothing that Mitch would ever change.
